You should now have a screen that looks as below with two images in the layers palette. Note: If the layers palette is not open, go to the Window menu and tick Layers.

Make sure the top layer is selected i.e. black Convert the image to Black and White:- 1. Enhance 2. Convert to Black and White 3. Select a style or move sliders 4. Click OK

Your screen should look like below with the top layer in B&W and the bottom layer in colour

Click on the Add layer mask icon to create a layer mask

Your screen should look like below with a white layer mask next to the B&W image Make sure your colour palette is Black foreground and White background, if not press “D”

Select a soft brush with Mode set to Normal and Opacity set to 100% Zoom into the area of the image that you want to bring back the colour and start painting. Use small strokes so that you can recover the situation if you make mistakes. Press “X” to change the foreground colour to White and paint over your mistake. Press “D” to revert to Black foreground to continue popping colour.

Save the image with a new name so that you do not overwrite the original
