performance evaluation and assessment with grading sysyem in an efficient & interesting way. The subject Operating System having Memory Managment topic has been chosen for creating clear understading ,assessment & evaluating student’s knowledge in the

subject.Both Subjective & objective assessments have been created.

Section 2: Design Decisions

Nature of Decisions taken

The design decisions involved in the creation of this OER were of broadly three types:

1. Content Decisions 2. Pedagogic Decisions 3. Technology Decisions

Content Decisions

The content decisions related to:

a. Earmarking specific segment to be covered – Decided on the subject of Operating

System-MCQ and subjective questions on various topics covering Memory management.

b. The research papers/publications and other materials to be provided –on Operating System.

c. Pedagogic Decisions

Typically in a flipped classroom strategy, there are two segments – Out-of-class segment and

In-Class segment. The out-of-class segment requires student to refer the Video, PPT of

Memory management in Operating system form an understanding about the concepts. In

terms of concept marking the pedagogic decisions that were taken for the Out-of-class

segment related to:

apply level. a. Assessment Strategies – Multiple choice questions & subjective for out of class,

Team-Pair-Share strategy for in-class.

b. These questions could be asked among various cognitive levels –mostly from recall

level to apply level.

Technology Decisions

While developing the Out-of-Class and In-class activities, the major technology

decisions taken were:

Lesson Settings

Screenshots 1-3 shows the general settings of a Lesson. This is same for all the lessons. If

there are variations, then they are duly noted under each description.

You should choose the format for the course such as Topic format, Weekly Format etc. as shown below. Screenshot 2: Course format and Appearance

Now a topic wise course layout structure will display out. You should edit the name of default topic name by your own course topics like software engineering model, software requirement specification and software project planning etc. This can be done by first enabling the edit mode by clicking to a “Turn editing on” button being displayed on top right corner of the page by default. Once the edit mode is enabled, you should create the Quiz activity. This can be done by using the option “Add an activity or resource” and then adding the “Quiz” as an activity. Screenshot 5: Addition of Quiz as an activity

You should choose the appropriate setting as per your program requirement like timing for the access of the quiz, grade settings, behavior of the questions etc. Once you have made the setting for the quiz activity, to save it, click to save and display options Open Education Resource: Flipping the classroom 14

Now once “quiz” activity has added under a topic. We should start adding the questions within the “quiz” activity. This can be done by clicking to the “quiz” activity option and then by clicking to “edit the quiz “button. Then click to “Add” button and start adding the questions by selecting the type of question format like multiple choice, true/false, essay etc. as shown below. How to use this OER

For using this OER, please ensure that you have admin permission in your MOODLE

course (needed for importing activities). Else ask your administrator to restore this

backup in your course.

Step 1: Download the Course Backup option from


Step 2: Go to the MOODLE course where you want to import this lesson. In

the Administration section click “Restore”.

Step 3: Drag and drop the three files into the “Files” area and click restore

Step 4: Verify the contents of the restore by going back to the lesson

Step 5: After verifying, post the instructions to your students to complete the lesson activity

before the next class using MOODLE forums.

Step 6: Before start of the next class please go and check the reports (see fig below) to

see how students performed.

Additionally, if there are some common errors made by students, you may conduct the quiz on another day for those particular students to elicit the misconception and resolve it.

Best Practices with Lesson Activity

Here are some of the best practices from our experience on using this Lesson Activity

in classroom:

1. Provide this activity at least 1 week in advance & provide activity topicwise. 2. Provide minor incentive (marks) for completion of the activity. 3. Ensure that there is a tangible output at the end of out-of-class activity to ensure

learners are interested . 4. It would be good if the screencasts and resources were separately available in a

“Resources” folder in the MOODLE course itself.

Section 4: Evaluating Effectiveness of OER

The OER effectiveness can be assessed at two levels:

1. At the student level 2. At the consumer level

Effectiveness at the student level

The Wordpress is provided with practice quiz questions. Moodle quiz(MCQ) & subjective

with graded activity are provided on Memory Management System. The objective & subjective questions are based on the various videos created on the sub topics of Memory

Management. By attempting the quiz in due time frame the students can evaluate themselves and able to

judge their knowledge about the topics. By answering subjective questions student will improve their writing, thinking & recall ability which helps for self assessment in an effective way.

The teachers can also evaluate the students according to their score in the topics. The effectiveness can be checked by the number of students logged in and number of attempts

they have taken to complete the answers.

Effectiveness at consumer level

Effectiveness at consumer or Teacher level can be achieved by providing quiz & assignment

in the Moodle site. Teacher can evaluate the students based on the timely submission and completion of the

assignments. The teachers can create the progress card and evaluate the students & upload the final result on the Moodle.

For practice & assessment, the Operating system evaluation method hs provided which contains questions on various sub topics in memory management System. Both Students and teachers can access, attempt and make self assessment based on videos &

contents.

As we have created and submitted the OER assignment during FDP 2017. On the successful assessment and evaluation by the peer assessment group and IIT Bombay team, we will make the community using Moodle& the community will be consist of Students,Faculties & researchers.
