The ability to assess asset condition is vital to ensure the detection and prevention of asset failures and their ensuing unplanned downtime. Process data provides a key data source of asset condition, which in turn indicates the asset’s overall fitness for service and potential harmful excursions in operations. Process data is most easily accessible through integration standards to leverage existing data sources and acquire data on a day-to-day basis for analysis and action.

Access to process data enables visibility to asset conditions and the ability to respond proactively to emerging problems. It also provides the awareness of operating situations that are deviating from expected design and strategy management boundaries.

Meridium OPC Interface

Meridium’s OPC Interface for process data integration (PDI) application provides access to process data for asset condition assessment via interface standards that leverage the existing sources of data in your organization. This brings together all information associated with the asset to provide a comprehensive view of asset condition or health. Using Meridium PDI, integrated with other Meridium Asset Performance Management (APM) solutions, allows you to correlate process data along with inspection results, operator rounds data and overall asset work history.

The OPC Interface features and benefits include:

Current and Historical Process Data Access

Using OPC integration standards, Meridium provides access to both current data and historical trends for any tag defined in a connected data source, such as a process historian. The data is fetched on demand - either manually by the user, such as viewing process trend data, or automatically to support a related APM work process, such as an asset monitoring policy.

Current data provides the real-time condition monitored through the process historian. This information is valuable to understand the current condition to correlate to other asset data and trigger corrective actions.

Historical data provides a window into the previous trend of conditions. This information is valuable to trigger corrective actions based on trend or number of times below or above a threshold. It is also important when looking back on an unplanned or excursion event to see how asset conditions changed before and after the event. This helps analysts determine how such events can be avoided in the future.

Process Data Viewer

The Meridium OPC Interface provides a process data viewer that allows the user to view one or more tags in an interactive display to facilitate analysis. The viewer provides on-demand access to snapshot and historical data in the context of defined levels for alert conditions. There are several options to define specific date ranges, display alert limits, and zoom within a selected timeline.

Managing Tag Data in APM

Tags are defined in OPC data sources, such as process historians, as monitoring points associated with on-line devices where condition data is collected. The Meridium OPC Interface provides the ability to select which tags will be monitored by APM for asset condition assessment. Tags can be selected through a simple hierarchy display as defined by the originating data source. When selected for APM, the tags are associated with the physical asset as defined by the EAM integration in Meridium. Thus, Meridium APM provides a key link

between the data monitored by process control systems and the physical assets defined and managed by the EAM system (Enterprise Asset Management), such as SAP.

Integration with the Enterprise

OPC Compliant

The Meridium OPC Interface integrates data from OPC-compliant process historians, which are specialized databases used for recording real-time process data, such as temperature or pressure. For example, Process Data Integration allows you to collect data from the PI Server software, which is a process historian developed by OSIsoft®. The Meridium OPC Interface may be licensed with the optional OSI-PI Interface, which provides some additional integration capabilities with PI Server software.

Meridium Asset Health Manager

The Meridium OPC Interface is fully integrated with Meridium’s Asset Health Manager (AHM) module. AHM provides a full view of the process data, including summary of the current condition and trend capabilities similar to the process data viewer. In addition, AHM provides visibility of all health indicators defined for an asset in a hierarchical display, including any calculated health indicators defined by a policy model. This provides all asset health information “at-a-glance” to the analyst to correlate data and ensure that follow-up activities are carried out to avoid unplanned asset failures.

Meridium Policy Manager

Meridium OPC Interface is also fully integrated with Meridium’s Policy Manager module. Policy Manager provides a graphical, user-friendly tool to define asset policies to monitor conditions and initiate action, such as generating a work request for follow-up maintenance

activity. The Meridium OPC Interface provides a vital data source for policies in effect for an asset, including process data required for applications such as integrity operating windows. Policies also provide a means to create calculated health indicators, such as an overall asset health index, which can be based on one or more process data inputs.

As part of the APM Foundation Work Process, the Meridium OPC Interface helps provide the tools and functionality that you need to develop a powerful APM solution that supports your workflows and has the flexibility to meet your changing business needs.
