Over the winter break Beth and Whitney attended Baconton’s Prom. Their day break was filled with getting ready for

prom, taking pictures and dancing the night away. Even though they attended Baconton’s Prom they still represented Pelham’s color. Beth wore blue

and Whitney wore yellow.

Mrs. Whigham and Mrs. Prince spent time with family and friends listening to their favorite local

blues band from Whigham, GA, the Johnnie Mar-shall Band, who played at the BBC

over the week-

end.

This Winter Break Worm finally got his own room. He says, “I swagged my room out. My

bed feels so soft; every time I lay on it I go to sleep instantly. My family is happy I have my own space because they are tired of my loud

music when I am dancing every day. “

Seth Taylor had the MOST EXCITING and BEST Winter Break. Seth decided to go sky-diving with

his sister and step-dad in Deland, FL. He said it was amazing and a thrill that you can only expe-rience when sky-diving. “The view when the parachute was deployed

was extravagant. You could see the beach and the people looked really

small. This is a once in a lifetime experience for some and only a single experience for many. I loved it and plan to go again someday.” Seth also purchased a 2013 Dodge Challenger before he left, so overall, his Win-

ter Break was spectacular! By Ann Atkins

For the child who did not speak, But found a voice....

Beside the child who could not walk, But found his feet.... Beneath the child who did not smile,

But found joy ... a horse set a spirit free! Unknown

Born from the desire to help others, Karen L. Singletary sought after a

facility to bring a therapeutic riding program to life. Her uncle, Dick Singletary, suggested talking to Terrell Singletary. Having searched for a way to utilize his fairly vacant facility, Terrell readily welcomed

the opportunity to furnish his facility for the benefit of individuals with special needs. With the help of Terrell's only granddaughter, the name Hands and Hearts for Horses was born. Starting with only three spe-

cially trained therapy horses, Hands and Hearts was revamped to fit the PATH, Int. standards and achieved status as PATH, Int. premier center in 2003 and again in April

2008. Hands and Hearts for Horses offers therapeutic riding, hippother-apy, interactive vaulting and Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy. They

have eight different schools who attend classes each week and are proud to serve approximately 90

students per week. Pelham High School’s Whitney Layton goes horseback riding on

Saturdays at Hands and Hearts for Horses. She had competition Satur-day and won 1st in Equitation and 2nd in Trail Pattern. Congratula-t i o n s , W h i t n e y ! F o r m o r e i n f o r m a t i o n , v i s i t

Under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Prothro, Pelham High

School’s very own Yvetta Haywood and Breaunna Brown feel that it was an accomplishment to come in 2nd place this year during the

Region FCCLA competition. They

competed against hundreds of students form the GA area. They prepared themselves by doing what they

are supposed to do, working hard, and putting in time

each day. They said, “We had to smile a lot, so we could stop being so nervous during competition.” The

girls said their experience was breath-taking, and they never experienced anything like it before in their entire

life. Next year during FCCLA their goals are for at least one of them to become presi-

dent, gain gold, and go to nationals. Their talents and projects were about promoting and publicizing FCCLA. They did an amazing project slideshow on a Prezi. They have

been preparing themselves ever since January 11, 2013. If there was anything they wanted to change, it would be working on their timing, performance, skills, finding a

new event, and the conversation between the judges and them during the presentation.

Congratulations, Mrs. Prothro! What a fantastic job Breaunna and Yvetta! Continue

the good work! By Hope Russell and Antonio Green, Jr.
