ProctorU is available for all ONLINE exams. It is NOT an option for paper, online+paper or offline, computer-based exams. UNC Online students must schedule proctoring appointments via the UNC Online system. You

cannot schedule appointments through the ProctorU website.

• Choose the MY EXAMS link from the top menu.

• Select your term.

• Select the drop down next to your class.

• Click the scheduling icon next to the chosen exam (circled red).

• Navigate to http://proctors.northcarolina.edu.

• Click Login.

• Select your campus from the left, input your campus credentials and click SIGN IN.

• After selecting the webcam proctor there is a button to TEST YOUR SYSTEM.

• Use the system check to ensure your computer is ready for online proctoring.

• If your system does not pass any of the checks, you can connect to a live representative to examine and troubleshoot your system.

• Select the appropriate exam.

• Select TAKE EXAM VIA WEBCAM.

Step 4

• Next, input basic contact info for your ProctorU file.

• After completing basic contact information and clicking Submit, you are directed to take a photo.

• The photo helps authenticate you when using ProctorU.

• This step is optional and the photo can be taken during the appointment instead.

• This step is required only once per test-taker.

• In the bottom-left, select your time zone.

• Select the requested day from the menu.

• Use the slider to narrow down time slots.

• Select the desired time slot from the list and click SCHEDULE in the bottom right.

• Prices are listed next to the time slots.

• After clicking SCHEDULE, a pop up window asks you to confirm the appointment details.

• Click CONTINUE to confirm your appointment.

• After completing the basic contact information, the website directs you to the payment form.

• ProctorU uses secured transaction provider Authorize.net and does not store any payment information locally. You will need to enter this information for each new proctoring session.

• You will receive confirmation after submitting payment.

• The website automatically redirects you to the UNC online website.

• You will now see the scheduled exam with details on the UNC online website.

• You can click VIEW REQUIREMENTS before your exam to help prepare for your exam appointment. Please remember to bring your PHOTO ID to your appointment.

• Your testing environment should be a quiet room by yourself where you will not be disturbed. No cell phones are allowed during the exam. You may need to bring a mirror to complete the workspace check.

• At the scheduled appointment time, click START YOUR EXAM and you will be directed to the proctoring room website.

• After connecting, your proctor will guide you through the start process.

Who can schedule ProctorU webcam appointments via UNC Online?

The following campuses participate in the UNC Online proctoring network:

Canceling and Rescheduling Webcam AppointmentsHow far in advance should I cancel or reschedule a webcam appointment? Please cancel or reschedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance. If you fail to show up for your exam without notice, you will not be eligible for a refund.

How do I cancel or reschedule a webcam appointment? Log into UNC Online at http://online.northcarolina.edu/Select the Cancel or Reschedule option listed in the Actions row of scheduled appointments.

I cannot access the Reschedule option because a missed appointment has not been finalized by the proctor. What should I do?Contact ProctorU at advocate@proctoru.com and request that the missed appointment be finalized. After the missed appointment is finalized, the Reschedule option will be listed in the Actions row of the finalized appointment, if the exam window is still active.

If your campus participates in the UNC Online proctoring network, you must schedule appointments via UNC Online. You cannot schedule appointments through the ProctorU website or by phone.

If your campus does not participate in the UNC Online proctoring network, contact your campus or faculty member to confirm that they partner with ProctorU and how to schedule appointments.

Can I reschedule an appointment if the exam window is closed? No. Please contact your instructor as soon as possible regarding your make-up exam policy. If your instructor extends the exam window for you via UNC Online, you will be able to reschedule an appointment. The faculty member must also extend the exam window via the learning management system (Blackboard, Moodle, etc...).

How can my instructor extend the exam window?Your instructor can extend the exam window by completing the following steps:

1. Log in to UNC online at http://proctors.northcarolina.edu.

2. In the Actions column of the exam details, select the Extend Date icon.

3. Select the Individual Student filter.

4. Select the student and extend the exam window. At a minimum, the exam window MUST be extended to accomodate the full exam duration AND ProctorU identification process.

5. Important: Remember to extend the exam window via the Learning Management System (Blackboard, Moodle, etc.).

Appointment Payment and Refund InformationHow do I request a refund for a webcam appointment? You can send an e-mail to refunds@proctoru.com. Please include your name, school, the date and time of your appointment and the date and reason you canceled.

How much does a webcam appointment cost? Fees are based on exam duration and are listed in the charts below.

Technical RequirementsWhat equipment will I need in order to be proctored? You will need a working webcam, microphone and speakers.

How do I know if my camera and microphone will work with your website? You can visit http://www.proctoru.com/testitout to test your equipment and, if necessary, receive technical support.

Which operating systems does ProctorU support? ProctorU currently supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.4 or newer version of those systems. At this time, ProctorU does not support any Linux operating systems such as Chrome OS, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.

Does ProctorU support tablets or smartphones? ProctorU works only on desktop and laptop computers at this time. Tablets such as the iPad or Windows Surface and smartphones with IOS, Android or Windows Phone operating systems are not supported.

What type of Internet connections are supported? Any high speed Internet connection is allowed as long as it meets the minimum download and upload speed requirements. However, tethering your mobile device as a wireless hotspot is not supported due to inconsistent bandwidth.

Is your service compatible with Macs? Yes

Is your service compatible with Linux? No

Student Identification

How will the proctor identify me? The proctor will ask you to present a current and legible government-issued photo ID and you will be required to pass an identification quiz.

Where do the identification quiz questions come from? Data for the challenge questions come from a US consumer database at Acxiom. The data are public records collected primarily from state and federal government sources. Federal and state laws place restrictions on the use of some of these sources, but some information is considered in the public domain, meaning anyone has access to it. Information in the public domain often includes telephone directory listings, professional registries, classified ads and more.

Why do I need my photo ID? Will a non-photo ID work? Your proctor needs to verify that you are the person who is taking the test. Your photo ID is checked to make sure the person in the photo and the name on your ID is correct. Non-photo IDs are not allowed.

Who is the webcam proctor? Can they see me during the appointment?

• All webcam appointments occur in real time with live proctors• Proctors are based in ProctorU headquarters with full management staff. Proctors do not

proctor from home.• Proctors monitor students’ video, computer screens and audio throughout appointments. • All proctors have passed proctoring training (including FERPA training) and a criminal

background check. Proctors are also audited to help maintain the quality of their work.• Will the proctor be able to access my personal computer files and documents without my

knowledge?

» No. ProctorU cannot access your computer files without your knowledge. With your permission, the proctor has the ability to view the screen and move the mouse and keyboard as if he or she were sitting next to you.

» Once the test starts, the proctor will monitor you, but will no longer be able to move your mouse and keyboard.

» During the entire process, a chat box is running on your computer, and you can see what permissions the proctor has at any time.

» The entire chat session log is saved, and there is a permanent record of what actions the proctor took while connected with you.
