TRIAD CORNER
The Danvers TRIAD Council is a partnership which includes the Sheriff and
District Attorney of Essex County, the Danvers Police and Fire Chiefs, the Council
on Aging and supportive services and seniors.
Seniors are often targeted by criminals. Though many criminals target seniors
from afar via telephone or internet scams, criminals seek to enter seniors’ homes. Home secu-
rity is
important for people of all ages, but especially so for seniors and aging individuals living along.
• Lock windows and doors. It may seem like common sense, but failure to repeatedly do this
can give burglars easy entry to your home.
• Think about a smart doorbell. Technology now enables doorbells to provide a video feed to
a person’s smartphone or tablet. Ring, another device, will even register motion activity from
outside your home. Check with a family member to see if one of these items could be installed
for you.
• Don’t share or leave keys. Avoid leaving keys under a mat or in a flower pot. Others may
be watching.
• Ask of ID. Verify credentials of a service person even if you have called for service.
Install a lockable mailbox. Locked mailboxes restrict access to sensitive information. Use
direct deposit for retirement checks, etc. instead of having a check sent.
Home security is serious business for seniors who are vulnerable to criminals.
Psychic Medium/Intuitive Reader event. Christian Anderson will be here on Thursday, August
15th, from 5-7:30 PM for metaphysical readings. Mediumship readings are a connection be-
tween Christian and the spirit realm. During a reading he is able to communicate with a loved
one on the other side. This is done in a group setting and limited to 10 people only. Cost for
this event is $55 FDCOA member/$65 non member. Registration in advance is required.
Popcorn & A Movie – Join us on
Tuesday, July 23 at 1 PM for
“Little” Plot: A successful but
ruthless executive who looks down
and torments everyone beneath her,
especially her abused yet loyal assistant,
gets magically transformed back to her
13-year old self. She must now rely on the
very people she bullied as she struggles to
reclaim her life. Rated PG-13 by the Motion
Picture Association of America for
sexuality. Please sign up at the front desk or
call the center at 978 762-0208 if you plan
on attending as seating can be limited.
Check in and you may win a
prize!!!! Are you using your card
to check in on “My Senior Cen-
ter” at the front desk
every time you come to the
center for a class, trip, activi-
ty or to enter your volunteer
hours? There is a new
category titled “Raffle”. Every day that you
are at the Senior Center and check in,
remember to touch on the Raffle option on
the first page and you will earn an entry into
the Raffle. A random winner will be selected
on the first business day of each month to
ensure that all entries from the previous
month are included. The winner was Marie
Comeau who won a $15 McKinnon’s gift
card. So remember to check in on the
computer each time you are here. If you
don’t have a card, stop by the front desk and
we’ll be happy to get you one!
Senator Joan Lovely
Senator Joan Lovely’s office will host
district hours at the Danvers Council on Aging
every other month. She will be here next on
Monday, July 8th, 9am-10am.
Appointments are encouraged and can be
made by phone at 617-722-1410 or by email at
[email protected] The Senators
office offers a range of constituent services

you have any questions or concerns regarding
state government, please feel free to contact
her or her staff.
Evening Book Club – The
Book Club will meet next on
Monday, July 15 at 5:30
PM. This month the book selected was The
Reckoning by John Grisham. Plot: Pete Banning
was Clanton, Mississippi’s favorite son—a
decorated World War II hero, the patriarch of
a prominent family, a farmer, father, neighbor,
and a faithful member of the Methodist
church. Then one cool October morning he rose
early, drove into town, and committed a
shocking crime. Pete's only statement about
it—to the sheriff, to his lawyers, to the judge,
to the jury, and to his family—was: "I have
nothing to say." He was not afraid of death and
was willing to take his motive to the grave. In
a major novel unlike anything he has written
before, John Grisham takes us on an incredible
journey, from the Jim Crow South to the
jungles of the Philippines during World War II;
from an insane asylum filled with secrets to the
Clanton courtroom where Pete’s defense
attorney tries desperately to save him. Please
call Paula at 978 762-0208 x104 if you will be
attending.
