Or, are you considering pursuing a career related to the field of arts management? Gain from the nation's leading provider of professional arts education, UMass Amherst's Arts Extension Service. Courses offered through Arts Administration will satisfy up to 60 credits toward a student's degree. In the first semester, all students take the "Frameworks for Understanding" course - establishing a foundation for returning to college and gaining the skills you'll need to design your degree and create your prior learning portfolio. Most students also take one of these four University Without Walls (UWW) courses in the first semester: organizational life, leadership, technology, or public policy - two of which must be taken prior to the UWW "Writing about Experience" course.

UMass Lowell's graduate certificate in Laboratory and Biological Safety is one of the few academic credit programs in biosafety available in the United States today. By making this certificate program available to students entirely online, the University is providing an affordable, accessible way for individuals to enter the field of biological and laboratory safety.

This 4-course certificate program is designed to provide certificate candidates with the principles of identification, evaluation and control of biological and laboratory hazards. The Addictions Counselor Education Program Certificate (ACEP) provides treatment professionals - from direct care counselors to program directors - with a focused, skill-building curriculum to promote successful delivery of substance abuse and dependency treatment. The Online Addictions Counselor Education Program Certificate was created to make the successful on-campus Certificate in ACEP more accessible nationally and internationally. With the recent approval of licensure for addictions professionals, the UMass Boston ACEP program adds great value to those seeking licensure and those seeking continuing education hours to maintain licensure. The certificate program is divided into two parts. Part one consists of three courses, ending with the pre-practicum. Behavioral Intervention in Autism Certificate

The UMass Boston Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling degree program prepares its graduates to be professional practitioners in a variety of community settings and institutions: hospitals, schools, rehabilitation agencies, career planning centers, employee assistance programs, clinics, residential treatment facilities, and other mental health agencies. The Master's Degree in Instructional Design online program consists of twelve courses, all but *two of which are available online. The Master's in School Counseling online degree program is designed to meet the needs of a local, national and international audience of adults wishing to enter the School Counseling field. It is a 60-credit master's distance learning which meets the academic requirements for certification in the state of Massachusetts as a School Counselor. The distance learning education program operates on a cohort model whereby all participants complete the same program of study. Two weeks of on campus study is required to complete two clinical courses. These courses will be taught the first summer of the program, generally during the month of July. This program offers registered nurses without a bachelor's degree a chance to expand their nursing education and at the present time accepts all eligible applicants.The Program prepares nurses for a successful career in healthcare. With the many changes taking place within the nursing profession, nurses need the skills to advance their careers and become leaders nursing. In addition to practicum, coursework includes: nursing research, cultural diversity issues, community focused nursing, management, and writing in nursing.

Course work begins in June and ends the following May. This program is offered through UMass Amherst Continuing & Professional Education, and students are considered regular undergraduates in the School of Nursing. This full-time only track provides all course work online, meaning that you can access each course from your home computer via the Internet. Clinical practice are tailored to meet the needs of registered nurses with other life responsibilities and are offered at locations convenient to home. Students need only come to campus for orientation, periodic clinical conferences, and for an evaluaton day in May of spring semester.

The UMass Boston Online Bachelor of Science in Nursing for RNs program maximizes accessibility and convenience for highly motivated, independent professionals. There is, however, a requirement that students attend a residential orientation prior to the commencement of the online nursing classes. The Nursing course portion of the program operates on a cohort model, whereby a group of students completes the same program of study over five semesters.

The six-credit nursing courses are taught online in the Summer, Fall and Spring sessions. The Certificate in Gerontological Social Policy represents advanced level work beyond the introductory coursework in gerontology as represented in the



Manning Certificate Program in Gerontology. Gerontological Social Policy occurs within a complex social, economic, and political context. Policy makers and advocates not only need to be familiar with what the policy is and how it functions but must also know the context within which it occurs and the theories upon which it is based. Knowledge of how the present policy is developed is essential. Understanding and assessing the power structure within administrative agencies and legislative bodies is also important. The final requirement of the certificate is a Capstone course where students identify an issue, plan a project, and contribute to the resolution of a community problem by implementing a plan to benefit a group, community, or society. The 12-credit Certificate in Gerontological Social Policy encompasses 4 course requirements and may be completed in two semesters.

The distance learning education program operates on a cohort model whereby all participants complete the same program of study. Two weeks of on campus study is required to complete two clinical courses. These courses will be taught the first summer of



the program, generally during the month of July. The remaining coursework is online. The sessions are held at UMass Dartmouth.

Master of Science in Family Therapy


The Master of Science in Family Therapy degree program prepares its graduates to a vision of strengthening healthy families. This distance learning program also prepares students to meet the academic requirements for licensure in family therapy (LMFT) by the Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The courses lead students to view families as entities within larger social systems and promote collaborative, inclusive, and integrative systems approaches. The distance learning program operates on a cohort model whereby all participants complete the same program of study. Two weeks of on campus study is required during the first summer of the program to complete two required clinical courses. They are generally taught in the middle of July. The remaining coursework is online. The sessions are held at UMass Dartmouth and housing is available at a reasonable rate (Housing information will be provided by the program upon request).



Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling


The UMass Boston Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling degree program prepares its graduates to be professional practitioners in a variety of community settings and institutions: hospitals, schools, rehabilitation agencies, career planning centers, employee assistance programs, clinics, residential treatment facilities, and other mental health agencies. This 60 credit online master's program prepares students to meet the academic requirements for licensure in the state of Massachusetts and achieve national certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). The rehabilitation counseling distance learning program is fully accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). In addition, scholarships may be available through the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) that funds tuition and fees and provides a small stipend.



The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Autism Studies Option is a 30-credit, 10-course master's degree program which can be completed entirely online. Offered through UMass Lowell's Graduate School of Education in cooperation with the Psychology Department, this interdisciplinary program combines UMass Lowell's award-winning Behavioral Intervention in Autism online graduate certificate program with one of the University's most popular online Master's degree programs in Curriculum and Instruction.

Early behavioral intervention is the key to successful treatment of autism. Currently, there is a critical shortage of skilled early intervention professionals in the United States. UMass Lowell's Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center has introduced five new online courses that deal with behavioral intervention in autism. Two options



Graduate Certificate: Completion of two required courses plus two elective courses enables the student to complete a graduate certificate. This four-course graduate program is designed to provide professionals in psychology, education, child care, speech and language disorders, mental health and human services with an understanding of autism and related developmental disorders as well as an introduction to behavioral methods and how and where such methods can be used and evaluated. With prior departmental approval, students may apply one of the courses from this certificate towards UMass Lowell's Master's Degree in Community Social Psychology (offered on campus) or towards a Master's Degree from UMass Lowell's Graduate School of Education.

The Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy's Online Graduate Certificate in Women's Leadership in a Global Perspective has its academic home in the Department of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies. The program, which is offered entirely online, focuses on the careful study of governmental structures and political processes internationally, the effects of public policies on women, the formation and implementation of public policies relevant to women and the roles women have played, as well as the need for their greater involvement, in politics and policy formulation and implementation.
