Studies show that approximately 75-80% of churches are stagnant or in decline. As many as 10% of Southern Baptist Churches will cease to exist in the next ten years unless fundamental changes are made. WHAT IS CHURCH REVITALIZATION? Church Revitalizaiton is a process which moves a plateaued or declining church toward a healthier and more sustainable environment in which the following become a greater reality: • Greater Evangelistic Effectiveness • Increased Participation in Worship and Bible Study • A Renewed Faithfulness in Stewardship • Growth in Community and Mission Involvement The Tennessee Baptist Convention is committed to assisting churches throughout our state facing these conditions. The goal of the TBC’s Church Revitalization Objective is the revitalization of 500 churches by 2024. CHURCH REVITALIZATION STRATEGY?
What is the TBC’s
Tennessee Baptist Churches giving through the Cooperative Program and the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions make TBMB ministries possible.
Church Revitalization Couples RetreatsRegistration for these retreats is open to pastors, staff, and their wives in the TBC Revitalization process. The retreats will focus on personal revitalization, a key factor in church revitalization.
Church Strategy Initiatives (CSI)A TBC State Missionary will come to your church for a discussion about your church’s specific needs and how we can assist you in developing strategic planning for the church.
Encouragers TeamA team of pastors and other church leaders ready to assist pastors in the midst of revitalization to serve as a source of mentorship.
Legacy Church AssimilationThis initiative helps dying churches find a healthy, thriving church with which to merge. The TBC serves as a liaison and counselor with the two congregations as they come together.
The 1000 Day Journey: A Customized TBC Church Revitalization Strategy
At the heart of our Church Revitalization effort is a strategy for resourcing pastors interested in leading their churches through a process for renewal. In this scenario, the church partners with the TBC Church Revitalization Team and agrees to take steps designed to foster an environment of spiritual renewal within the body.
PartnershipsWe value the opportunity to help your church be successful. We will provide resources to assist churches in revitalization.
Church Revitalization ConferencesWe will host two statewide conferences annually providing inspiration and information about Church Revitalization. These are important opportunities to network with those who are in the midst of Church Revitalization efforts.
Church Revitalization Orientations (CRO)Church Revitalization orientation meetings will be hosted once a quarter at locations throughout the state. This orientation is for pastors desiring to lead their churches in a turnaround. At the end of the seminar, the pastor will be prepared to go back to his church and launch a 13-week sermon-based, spiritual renewal process for the purposes of revitalizing the church.

coupled with a small group
implementation process in which churches partner with the TBC Church Revitalization Team and agree to make some substantial changes in their congregation. The leadership and the church family affirm their desire to place everything about the church under review. In other words, the existing members and leaders agree to craft a different future for their church. This process will be further introduced and explained when your church contacts a member of the CR team.
