Dear friends,

We all know Spring is a season of new beginnings – we wait with anticipation to swing open the

windows and feel a warm breeze, watch the leaves unfurl and flowers bloom. At One Mango Tree

we’re experiencing our own kind of Spring season, unfurling all sorts of beautiful new products and

improving the way we do business with our artisans.

Our Spring 2012 collection brings new artisans into the mix, weaving hand-dyed and hand-loomed

fabrics into our palette, and adding leather and horn accents. We have a brand new jewelry

collection, and our apparel gets fresh life with a mix of new shapes and fabrics.

Our artisans in Northern Uganda (shown on our cover) are starting the season afresh as well –

working at home in their villages for the very first time. This Christmas we gifted sewing machines

to our Gulu tailors and started a work-from-home system, whereby the ladies meet weekly to pick

up work assignments and plan their own work schedules. This shift makes time for gardening and

being with their families – an exciting step forward in making life better for our artisans.

In Kampala, we’re setting a new standard for ethical apparel manufacturing, where we pay more

than double the regular factory wages to our machine operators (opposite page, bottom). We look

forward to teaching our customers more this season about how their clothes are made, helping

them to connect to the people behind the products.

With rich upcycled leather accents and neutral tones, it’s a great piece to complement springs bright colors.

Amara means “one who is loved” in Acholi, the language spoken in Northern Uganda. This carved wooden

heart pendant hangs on upcycled leather cording and comes in a pouch made from remnants of African print

fabric.

Our wooden heart pendant is hand carved by artisans in Uganda. The leather strap is upcycled from upholstery

leather used in a local workshop.
