Our oneness as Filipinos is being tested again. The catastrophe that struck parts of Mindanao, particularly Cagayan De Oro and Iligan City, barely a week before Christmas Day was really aweful and saddening. Hundreds were recorded fatalities, thousands were displaced and billions worth became nil in an instant.

We are supposed to enjoy merriment in this time of the year, but with what happened to our “kababayans” in Mindanao, do we still have enough reasons to celebrate? Probably yes, considering the blessings we have received the whole year round. But our celebration of Christmas this year will never be as joyful as how we had in the previous years. Truly, it is hard to scream aloud with exhilaration when you knew in your heart that many of your fellow Filipinos grieve for loss of their loved ones, shocked for the damages in their properties, and reflecting on how to get back on their feet the soonest.

This is another time for all of us to show that we remain one as Filipinos. As we have proven in the past, it is innate in our character that our helping hands are always ready to extend assistance whenever needed, a trait that has wowed the world over.

The ONE LUZON is intended to relay news and issues focused on the affairs of the covered regions – Northern and Central Luzon. But as an effective tool in reaching out to a wide reach of readership and patrons, it willed to pay tribute to the people affected by typhoon Sendong in the South, thinking that even with this simple means, we would elicit help from various generous sectors for the people of Mindanao.

And since giving and sharing is the real essence of Christmas, it is an opportune time for us to once again demonstrate the trait that we have been known for – helpful and caring. Let's help our fellow Filipinos in Mindanao recover from the ashes of their worst nightmare. For more than being ONE LUZON, we are ONE NATION…
