CE20160219 Course Description This course is designed for human service professionals who are interested in acquiring more knowledge in family therapy and its application in working with clients with mental health problems. The course employs a systemic perspective on assessment and intervention for clients suffering from mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorder, etc. Its focus will be on empowering families and its family member(s) to cope with mental illnesses and addressing the problems that arise. How to facilitate systems collaboration among multiple institutions serving the family will also be addressed. Course Objectives 1. To acquire a systemic and strengths-based perspective in addressing issues in mental health care; 2. To learn the basic assumptions and theoretical concepts of family therapy; 3. To equip with the skills to conduct family assessment/interviews with clients with mental health challenges; and 4. Course Description

Trainer’s Biography

Dr. WONG Oi Ling (王愛玲博士)

BSocSc, MSocSc, PhD HK; RSW

Dr Wong Oi Ling is an AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Supervisor. Dr Wong worked as a Clinical Supervisor/Senior Teaching Consultant with The University of Hong Kong from 2002 to 2011, and as Assistant Professor with the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2014. Her teaching duties include didactic courses in marriage and family therapy and clinical supervision. She also conducted live case demonstrations in the weekly evening family therapy clinic to teach students in the master’s degree program how to work with families with a variety of potential problems. Dr Wong has many years of direct practice experience, especially in the mental health field. Dr. Wong has been invited by New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association to conduct intensive training and clinical supervision for mental health social workers who worked in various ICCMWs across the territory to apply family-centered approach in the mental health social work setting since 2010. She has published a paper titled “Family-centered Care in Adults’ Mental Health: Challenges in Clinical Social Work Practice” in Social Work in Mental Health (2016). Her expertise is primarily in the area of family therapy training, clinical supervision, children and adolescent family, mental health, parental mental illness, and families living with dementia. Dr Wong has published two Chinese

casebooks titled “夾缝中的孩子” (2012) and “婚姻滋味” (2015).
