*Call to Worship (Responsively)
Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing
greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and
lyre,
Praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings
and pipe,
Praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

“The Day Of Resurrection”
Opening PrayerO Victorious God, we come as Easter People and magnify your
name. We come this morning to the Fountain of life to ask you to
bring resurrection to our land. Churches have been burned in
Louisiana and elsewhere. Shootings have happened on your sacred
ground in this country and others where all people wished to do
was worship. Our denomination still struggles with a way forward
and our world still struggles with hate, racism, corruption and war.
Bring your resurrection power to our world, God and where WE can
be conduits of your life, your hope, and your love...send us. Show
us your ways, O God and we shall live in them. In the name of the
Risen Christ, Amen.
Passing the PeaceThe Peace of the Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us greet our neighbors and extend God’s peace to each other.

The Message Rev. Dr. Susan E. Boehl
“RESURRECTION: Who WAS that Masked Man?”
Sacrament of Infant BaptismTURNER PEYTON KIES
Brothers and sisters in Christ:
It is through Baptism that we are welcomed into the family of God and
initiated into Christ's holy Church. We are grafted into the story of God's
mighty movements in salvation-history and we are given new birth
through water and the Spirit. All this is God's gift, given freely to all who
desire it, and offered to us without price.
RENUNCIATION OF SIN AND PROFESSION OF FAITH
On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you:
Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers
of this world, and repent of your sin? If so, say I do.
I do.
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice,
and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
I do.
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his
grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the Church
which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?
I do.
According to the grace given to you, will you remain faithful members of
Christ's holy Church and serve as Christ's representatives in the world? If so,
say I will.
I will.
To Sponsors or godparents:
Will you nurture this child in Christ’s Holy Church, that by your teaching
and example they may be guided to accept God’s grace for themselves and
profess their faith openly and to lead a Christian life?
I will.
To the People Gathered:
Do all of you, representing Christ's body, the Church, reaffirm both your
rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?
We do.
Will you nurture this young one now before you in your care?
With God's help we will proclaim the good news and live according
to the example of Christ. We will surround this person with a
community of love and forgiveness, that he may grow in his trust
of God, and be found faithful in his service to others. We will pray
for him, that he may be a true disciple who walks in the way that
leads to life.
THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER
Eternal Father: When nothing existed but chaos, you swept across the dark
waters and brought forth light. In the days of Noah you saved those on the
ark through water. After the flood you set in the clouds a rainbow. When
you saw your people as slaves in Egypt, you led them to freedom through
the sea. Their children you brought through the Jordan to the land which
you promised.
Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Tell of God's mercy each day.
In the fullness of time you sent Jesus, nurtured in the water of a womb.
He was baptized by John and anointed by your Spirit. He called his
disciples to share in the baptism of his death and resurrection and to make
disciples of all nations.
Declare Christ’s works to the nations, his glory among all the
people.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, to bless this gift of water and he who shall
receive it, to wash away his sin and clothe him in righteousness by your
Holy Spirit throughout his life, that, here dying and being raised with
Christ, he may share in his final victory.
All praise to you, Eternal Father, through your Son Jesus Christ, who
with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns for ever. Amen.
BAPTISM WITH LAYING ON OF HANDS
Turner Peyton Kies, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Turner, child of God, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in baptism and
marked as belonging to Christ. Amen.
May the Holy Spirit work within you, that having been born through water
and the Spirit, you may live as a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Hymn The Faith We Sing, 2051
“I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry” (2 verses)
Now it is our joy to welcome this new Brother in Christ.
Through baptism you are incorporated by the Holy Spirit into God's
new creation and made to share in Christ's royal priesthood. We are
all one in Christ Jesus. With joy and thanksgiving we welcome you
as a member of the family of Christ.
We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we
welcome you in Christian love. As members with you in the Body of
Christ and in this congregation of the United Methodist Church, we
renew OUR covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the
church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our
witness that in everything, God may be glorified through Jesus
Christ, Amen.
BLESSING
Now may the God of all grace, who has called us to eternal glory in Christ,
establish you and strengthen you by the power of the Holy Spirit, that you
may live in grace and peace. Amen.

The Scripture LessonsRevelation 1: 1-8 (NIV)The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon takeplace. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everythinghe saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who readsaloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what iswritten in it, because the time is near.John,To the seven churches in the province of Asia:Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the sevenspirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from thedead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sinsby his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to himbe glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.“Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”;and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”So shall it be! Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was,and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Luke 24; 13-35 (NIV)Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven milesfrom Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. Asthey talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walkedalong with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are youdiscussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know thethings that have happened there in these days?” “What things?” he asked.“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deedbefore God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to besentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who wasgoing to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. Inaddition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning butdidn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who saidhe was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the womenhad said, but they did not see Jesus.” He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow tobelieve all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these thingsand then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained tothem what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he weregoing farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day isalmost over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to giveit to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared fromtheir sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talkedwith us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those withthem, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared toSimon.” Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized bythem when he broke the bread.
Living Into God’s Word1 In all his resurrection appearances, who else did not recognizeJesus at first?
2. What did it take to first recognize Jesus’ presence in your life?
3. Where were the disciples headed when Jesus encounteredthem?
4. Jesus Christ is given 9 titles in our Revelation passage. Namethem.
5. Which of these is your favorite. In other words, which title doyou give him in your life? Is there another name your call him?
6. Jesus was revealed to the disciples in the ________ of________.
7. Jesus explained all the scriptures about himself to the twodisciples. Why was that necessary?
8. After the risen Jesus disappeared, the disciples went back to
Jerusalem, even though it was night and they had already walkedall day. What does their urgency tell you about how important thegood news of the Gospel of Jesus was ....and IS?

SPECIAL INVITATION - As many of you may already know, our current District
Superintendent, Rev. Rebecca Iannicelli's term as a District Superintendent comes to an end
effective July 1, 2019. Rev. Iannicelli has done a phenomenal job in giving leadership to
our District for the past six years. We are truly grateful for her work and have been honored
to have her as our Superintendent.
In order that we might celebrate the ministry of Rev. Iannicelli, the District
Superintendency Committee is planning a Farewell Celebration of Service for her to be held
starting at 3PM Sunday June 2, 2019 at the Charles County Fair Grounds (8440 Fairground
Road, La Plata, MD 20646).
The District is asking for a head count for this celebration so adequate preparations can
be made. Please call the church office or write "Celebration of Service" on the attendance
pads. The location is so close (that almost NEVER happens) so you are encouraged to come
and give thanks for our DS! Please RSVP in the ways mentioned above BEFORE May, 17,
2019. SEE YOU THERE!
ASP MILE OF PENNIES FUND RAISER UPDATE - You have contributed $262 so far, giving
us 31% of our goal of a mile of pennies. A couple folks have told us that the ashtrays and
consoles of their vehicles are a great source for loose coins. Thanks so much for your
generosity. This will help defray our transportation costs for our trips to Tennessee and
Virginia this summer.
THE GRAPEVINE - Tricia Holcomb has been doing a wonderful job as Editor of our
Grapevine every week. She has recently started a full time job, and with three very active
children, has found that she can no longer serve in this ministry. Her last issue will be the
May 5 issue. We are looking for someone who has some extra time on their hands, is
creative, likes working with computer graphics, and who is familiar with the program
Publisher to become our new Grapevine Editor. The Grapevine has over 700 subscribers who
look forward to receiving it every week to read about all the wonderful ministries of our
church. If you are interested, or would just like a little more information, please call Karen
in the church office. THIS could be a way to use your gifts for HIS service. Thanks
GRADUATE SUNDAY - Graduate Sunday has been set for June 2. If you have anyone in
your family graduating please e-mail or call Karen in the church office to share their
information. Graduates from high school, college, post graduate, vocational or other
programs will be recognized during services on June 2. Please contact Karen by May 29
so that information can be included in the bulletin.
WHAT'S IN A NAME? - La Plata UMC is in the process of starting a mid-week Prayer
Moment on Facebook Live. Included would be a quick devotional, Prayers for those on the
prayer list and an opportunity for you to ask for prayer in real time. It would last 15-20
minutes and would be a spiritual fuel injection for anyone who would need it. As we iron
out other details, I have a question for you! This spiritual pick-me-up needs a name! What
would be a good name for this online prayer time? The name should be descriptive,
creative, and eye-catching. It should make you want to tune in to see what all the fuss is
about! Call or stop by the Church Office with your submission. The deadline is June 1.
Thanks for praying...I mean playing!
SUMMER CAMP - There is still time to sign up for summer camp through Baltimore
Washington Conference. Week long residential camps are offered at West River and
Manidokan, and this year we have children and youth going to both camps! Several
children are headed to West River July 14 - 19 and youth are headed to Manidokan August
4 - 9. If you are interested in going to summer camp with a Christian focus, check out:
bwccampsandretreats.com. Since our church is one of the top church's in the conference
to send folks to camp, we have a bonus discount code for registration this year!! It is for a
limited number, but I have one code left and am happy to share it with anyone who plans
to go! Campership money is also available. Please talk with Corrie Roberts about
campership money, coupon codes, or any questions in general.
