2015 Fall CCI Rally Waterfalls, Wineries and Gorges - Watkins Glen, NY

September 21 - 25, at Watkins Glen, NY, KOA Campground

Waterfalls, Wineries and Gorges? . . . Sounds fun to me! Come join the fun in Wat-kins Glen and explore this beautiful area with your friends.Watkins Glen is a village located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Watkins Glen is home to an amazing blend of natural beauty, high-octane excitement, and world-famous wines and spirits. The area boasts Watkins Glen International Raceway in rolling hills, the Watkins Glen State Park situated in the heart of downtown Watkins Glen (where a stream has cut a deep chasm through the rock cliffs, creating numerous waterfalls and scenic vistas, walk the Gorge Trail through this area), and world-class wineries located near by on the edges of the Finger Lakes.Race fans know the name “Watkins Glen,” and their visits here are often multi-ple, for much is offered beyond motorsports. A slow sail across Seneca Lake, a sooth-

ing sip of a new wine, an adventurous hike through one of the breathtaking gorges, or a quiet night around a campfire are the counterbalances to the heart-pounding experienc-es of drivers and machines. Schuyler County residents

and visitors who have slowed down – or revved up – both share something special in this scenic spot that is now home to a state-of-the-art international race track. From its waterfalls to its motorsports, Watkins Glen and Schuyler County offers something for everyone to enjoy right in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes Region. It is a rare find to have such an abundance of natural beauty and amazing attractions. From the pristine lakes, gorgeous waterfalls, and magnificent parks to the charming villag-es, one-of-a-kind museums, and unique shopping opportunities. More specifics coming soon . . . registration starts in May. Visit the KOA Campground website at http://www.watkinsglenkoa.com/ This rally is being hosted by the Country Coach Nor’Easters.

Your BoardFROM your PRESIDENTby Lee Zaborowski

With about a month left to register for the July Rally in Shipshewana, Jeanne and I were reminiscing about our past visit to the area some years ago. We loved it and consider this a favorite RV destination to sightsee, marvel at and buy crafts, the friendliness of the people, and eat some delightful meals!

I’m not big on walkabout crafts shows, been there done that, but the Shipshewana Flea Mar-ket is one-of-a-kind, don’t miss it, and you can walk there from our RV campground. There is so much to see just walking around the town, and the region as well is a treasure-filled collection of neat destinations.

As much as we hear about all the RV manu-facturers around Junction City, OR, this area is right up there with a large number of companies as well. We’ll tour at least one, the Jayco factory, plus spend part of a day at the Motorhome Hall of Fame. Jeanne and I toured there right after it opened, had a grand time and are looking forward to seeing what’s been added and how its changed. For car buffs the Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Mu-seum should be fun too. Bring your camera.

Invariably, the subject of food and Amish cook-ing comes up. Think mom’s family style home cooking and all you can eat. Make no mistake, this is not a buffet. Some of the Amish homes have dinner halls adjoining, and it sounds like we’ll be eating in one of them after an Amish Buggy Ride from the campground. The tables are

long, the food is plentiful, served by Amish fami-lies, the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Bring your appetite! I remember being confronted by 4 kinds of pie and wondering how I was going to manage a slice of each.

If eating is not enough we’ll be treated to select-ed restaurant/culinary locations to learn how it’s all done . . . topped off by dinner at the famous Das Dutchman Essenhaus.

Coming and going to/from Shipshewana you can’t go far without a must stop experience. You’re in La Grange County, surrounded by Shingle Shops - Amish, back roads, charmingly simple shops, workshops and studios.

Just west, in Elkhart County stop and smell the flowers along the Quilt Garden Trail; where the Amish honor quilts, the pinnacle of Amish artist-ry, with 18 gardens planted in intricate quilt pat-terns. Keep going west to Notre Dame University, a beautiful campus with many great traditions and a fine academic program. Still further west you’ll come to Indiana Dunes State Park, a camp-ground destination Jeanne and I have thoroughly enjoyed. Walking the big dunes is a must outdoor activity and great exercise.

Well, that’s a sampling . . . I could go on. We’re going to Shipshewana again, we wouldn’t miss it! Hope to see you there. Don’t forget to reserve your campground site after you register!

Your BoardFROM the SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENTby Rod B KenlyWell – the weather is finally

turning nice – unless you are in the Midwest, and now it is Tornado season – especially for “Tornado Alley.” I’ve never been in a tornado, nor seen one – and that is NOT on my bucket list.

However, for us still working, or those with children / grandchildren, school is almost out, or next month anyway. Here at work, we had an all hands “The 101 days of summer,” which kicks off on Memorial day weekend. The briefing we got had it broken down into various areas. These included - BBQ Safety, Chainsaw Safety, Lawnmower Safety, Bicycle Safety, Swimming Safety, Boating Safety, Fireworks Safety, Motorcycle Safety, AND Child Safety.

Many of us take our grandchildren out with us during the summer. So I thought I would include the bullets from the child safety portion of the pre-sentation. They brought chuckles from the audience – but they are all true.

1. Kids are kids, they’re not little adults … their minds work differently than ours and they may do other than what we expected.

2. If there is something you don’t want a kid to get into, lock it up.

3. If you say your kid wouldn’t do that, you’ll probably be right at least 50% of the time.

4. Kids are smart, they wait until we’re dis-tracted before they do something that we told them specifically not to do.

5. If you think you’ve got them figured out, they have you well trained.

6. The only thing more vicious than a mother bear protecting her cubs is an older sister protecting her tricycle from her younger brother.

7. If you put it in a recycled plastic milk bottle, your kid will drink it.

I’m also in the process of doing maintenance (and upgrades) on my coach before the summer season. For me, I’ve updated the radio & xm for the dash. I’ve put in new shocks, had the ride height of the coach checked (it was ½” low in the back). I’m also putting on new mirrors that have the turn signals incorporated in the mirrors – as well as side cameras. I’m excited about the cameras. I’m also mounting my autoformer to make sure that my voltage is good at the various parks. I have had low voltage at various parks in the past. So I have had to pull it out of the bay, and plug it in. I’m going to mount it to a bay wall where it will be out of the way.

This month’s video has nothing to do with mo-torhomes. It is about riding a bike – and the conclu-sion is that we all come with a bias.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFzDaBzBlL0

What are you doing for maintenance & up-grades? Let me know about my video selections!

See you down the road…

Your BoardFROM the SECRETARYby Eric Arnold

Hello everyone. I hope all is well. It’s time again for nomina-tions for your CCI Board.

If you’ll remember last year we elected 14 new members to the CCI Board of Directors with half of those positions being for one year and the other half for a two year term. This was done to stagger the amount of new mem-bers to the Board and from now on all the terms will be for two years. Lee Zaborowski recently sent out an email to the member-ship looking for volunteers. Please consider running for the Board or nominating a CCI colleague. You can email the names to me at [email protected] but hurry as nominations

are closed on May 29, 2015.The Shipshewana Rally is rapidly approach-

ing! This looks to be a very fun rally with a full schedule of activities and tours so don’t delay as spots are filling up fast. Once your registra-tion is done don’t forget to call the rally loca-tion (Shipshewana Campground “South Park”) directly to make your campsite reservation.

Speaking of rallies, FMCA is looking for volunteers to it’s FMCA Reunion in Madison, WI, July 29th through Aug 1st. If you plan on attending the FMCA Rally and would like to volunteer for the event then just check “volun-teer” on the FMCA registration form.

Be safe and I hope to see you on the road!

Tech & Travel Tips

Bob Rankin is a translator for the technology impaired -- a writer and computer programmer who enjoys exploring the Internet and explaining technology in plain English. His work has appeared in Computer World, NY Newsday, and other publications. Bob is also publisher of Internet TOURBUS, author of several computer books, and creator of the Lowfat Linux tutorial.Your CCI eNews Editor has been reading Bob’s column for 2 years and found his columns to be valuable, and free. Internet Security 2015 - What Lies Ahead? It’s one thing to predict the future. But it’s quite another to get it right. Looking back at the last

year’s version of the Websense Security Predictions report, seven of the eight threat predictions they made last year were spot on. And the Websense 2015 Security Predictions report is already proving to be an accurate indicator of things to come.

The first prediction for this year was related to Healthcare organizations. According to Websense, they will experience more attacks from data-stealing hackers. Medical records and patient data accounted for 43% of major data breaches reported in 2013, according to the Identity Theft Resource Center. Healthcare databases are rich in Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that hackers can use in identity theft or future phishing attacks, and they are often linked to ex-ploitable financial data as well.

Drum roll, please… Last week, Anthem, the second-largest health insurance provider in the USA, was breached by hackers. Tens of millions of customer records were stolen, which included names, addresses, birth dates and Social Security numbers.

Continuing with the list of Websense predictions…Credit card data thieves will become consumer profile brokers. As the amount of bogus pur-

chases that can be made before a stolen card is deactivated declines, crooks will turn to collating data sto-len from multiple sources to create a consumer profile that is more valuable than any credit card’s data.

Your refrigerator will not be the target of identity thieves, but your utility company may be. TheInternet of Things will spawn a vast array of new “attack surfaces,” but crooks will most target businesses rather than consumers.

Mobile devices will increasingly be targeted by hackers, but not with the intent to steal data stored on the devices. Thieves will be after identity credentials that provide access to cloud-based services and corporate networks.

New vulnerabilities will be found in decades-old open source code that is widely used and taken for granted. Found by security researchers, that is; it is likely that bad guys (and probably the Men With Dark Glasses) have been exploiting vulnerabilities such as Heart-bleed, Shellshock, and OpenSSL for years. These recent security scandals have focused attention on old software that was developed by volunteers and never formally supported. It won’t be sur-prising if more flaws are found.

Email users can expect to see more spam getting through to their inboxes. While the total volume of spam sent out is declining, the bad guys are getting better at evading anti-spam solu-tions. In fact, they aren’t even using spam in the ways that anti-spam software is designed to detect. Instead of trying to get readers to click on links or open attachments, spam is now used to verify recipients, test login credentials, and effectively do reconnaissance for more advanced future attacks.

Google Docs and other well-known, trusted Web services will be invaded by botnet masters seeking better places to hide their command-and-control operations. Corporate and person-al firewalls that may block sketchy unknown sites generally allow communications emanating from name-brand domains, so that’s where the bad guys want to establish their covert headquarters.

News From Friends & PartnersCountry Coach Corporation

I recently sent out a short questionnaire to the club presidents to get feed back from current Country Coach Owners on their interest in the 45 ft Allure that we are building and also other lengths. Thank you to all who responded. I would like to thank Lee Zaborowski for the excellent job of getting the survey out to his CCI members and their very high rate of return. The results were much as I had expected and very similar to the responses I have been getting when I talk to cus-tomers in our shop.

We received lots of requests for coaches in the 36 to 40 foot length. We have every intention of building coaches in those lengths. The thing that came through loud and clear is how much you like your Country Coach and that the quality remains high. The reason we built the forty five foot Allure first is because I am paying for it and wanted the 4 slide Crane Prairie floor plan for my own coach. I own and am driving a 2009 45 ft. Allure Crane Prairie now and it is a very nice floor plan and a great coach over all. My intention is to improve on it with the 2016 prototype we will finish in June. By the way, I also own a beautiful 2009 45 ft. Magna Vivaldi with an ISX 650 HP that is for sale. On the subject of the prototype, I will post pictures in the upcoming Country Coach Destinations. We are installing the slide rooms at this time and have the floor heat and tile done. The front and rear caps, roof and skirts are ready to be installed. The coach is on schedule for completion in June.

Major RMCC/CCI Charity Donation

I thought you might like to see what members of both CCI and RMCC have donated to our des-ignated charity. Our charity is The New Life Cen-ter which is a domestic violence shelter for wom-en. The money is raised at our annual business meeting via a auction of items that are donated by the club members. Each year I’m overwhelmed at the generosity of our club members this year we raised $16,000. for The New Life Center. At-tached is a photo of the check presentation.
