ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:

TONY LEE GARNER is indispensable at the McCoy. He is ourArtistic Directorand is Chairman of the Rhodes Department of Theatre and Media Arts. As ifthat were not enough, he is also conductor of the Rhodes Singers. He is anactor, a singer, a director, a musical director and a real swell guy. Last season,Tony played Colonel Oscar Fairfax in LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE and performedin SONDHEIM & SONDHEIM. He has been seen in other McCoy roles includingSWEENEY TODD, Mr. Squeers in NICHOLAS NICKLEBY and Armado in LOVE'SLABOUR'S LOST. As a director and musical director, he has given McCoy au-diences such treats as BEYOND THERAPY, WONDERFUL TOWN, CARNIVAL,CANDIDE and COWARDY CUSTARD. His Theatre Memphis credits as actor andmusical director span twenty years and are too vast to enumerate, but his

most recent project there was the musical direction for ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.

The Company

ANNE-MARIE AKIN is a familiarface to McCoy audiences, havingtaken roles in COWARDY CUS-TARD, NICHOLAS NICKLEBY,WONDERFUL TOWN, THE GON-DOLIERS, LOVE'S LABOUR'SLOST and THE CHILDREN'SHOUR as Martha. Anne-Marie is asenior Theatre major and spent

last summer studying at Cornell University in the Na-tional Theatre of Great Britain summer program. Sheis one of four students appearing in two of our currentproductions.

DONALD E . BARBER may be afirst-timer here at the McCoy, buthe has been a Theatre Memphismainstay for a number of years. Heportrayed the Devil in MAN ANDSUPERMAN and Bottom in A MID-SUMMER NIGHTS DREAM. Otherplays on his list of associations areTHE FOREIGNER, ANNE OF THETHOUSAND DAYS, THE LATE CHRISTOPHER BEANand "about thirty or forty others"

BILL BARKSDALE played FleetFoot in last season 's musical LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE and wasLonnigan in WONDERFUL TOWN.He also appeared in a high schoolproduction of YOU CAN'T TAKE ITWITH YOU. He is a sophomorefrom Jackson , Mississippi, whoseinterests include working in radio

and with the youth ministry.

MARGARET CHANDLER wasPeggy Rogers in our production ofTHE CHILDREN'S HOUR. She is asophomore English/Media major,plays racquetball and is a memberof Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.Previous roles in Dalton, Georgia,include Hippolyta in A MIDSUM-MER NIGHT'S DREAM and MyrtleMae in HARVEY, as well as roles in WORKING and THEDINING ROOM.

JERRY CHIPMAN is admired byMemphis audiences both as anactor and as a director. Lastseason , he directed two criticallyacclaimed shows at Circuit, AS ISand FOOL FOR LOVE, and tookthe leading role as Henry in TomStoppard's THE REAL THING atTheatre Memphis, which garnered

a Best Actor nomination for him at the MemphisTheatre Awards. 1988 will be another busy year for Jerry,since he will direct SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH at TheatreMemphis and will return to the McCoy to direct JohnGuards THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES. He has alsodirected AGNES OF GOD, KEY EXCHANGE, HOT LBALTIMORE, CRIMES OF THE HEART, ANGELS FALL,LOOSE ENDS, FIFTH OF JULY, VANITIES and THESHADOW BOX. His onstage credits at the McCoy in-clude portrayals of Newman Noggs in NICHOLASNICKLEBY and Dr. Johnny Buchanan in SUMMER ANDSMOKE. Among his many Theatre Memphis roles arepersonal favorites such as Ken Harrison in WHOSELIFE IS IT ANYWAY?, Jason in MEDEA, Tony Cavendishin THE ROYAL FAMILY, C. K. Dexter Haven in THEPHILADELPHIA STORY, Jaques in AS YOU LIKE IT, andSt. John Quartermaine in QUARTERMAINE'S TERMS.

CHRIS DAVIS has appeared inMcCoy productions of TWELFTHNIGHT, KILLING GAME and inTHE RIVALS as Bob Acres. He alsoappeared as Bel Affris in TheatreMemphis' production of CAESARAND CLEOPATRA. Elsewhere hehas been seen in SWEENEYTODD, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'SDREAM , CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, THE NEW MOON,1776 and MAN OF LA MANCHA.

STACY LEE DeZU`I FER was LoisFisher in THE CHILDREN'S HOURat the McCoy last year and playedclarinet in the orchestra for WON-DERFUL TOWN. She is a soph-omore from Fern Park, Florida, ma-joring in Theatre and Psychology.In Florida, she performed in THEGIFT and AMAHL AND THE

NIGHT VISITORS. She spent her summer working asan intern for the Civic Theatre of Central Florida inOrlando.

LEIGH ANN EVANS appeared lastseason as Catherine in THE CHILDREN'S HOUR at the McCoy. Onother stages, she has portrayedKate Keller in TFIE MIRACLEWORKER and Olivia in TWELFTHNIGHT and has appeared in THEHEAL INSPECTOR HOUND, THEADMIRABLE CRICHTON and SHESTOOPS TO CONCLJEH. Leigh Ann is a juniorEnglish /Theatre major and a member of the McCoy'sPublic Relations team in charge of promotions.

PAJA FAUDREE has appeared atthe McCoy in WONDETRFFUI_.TOWN and TWELFTH NIGHT' andserved as Assistant StageManager for LI TTLE MARY SUN-SHINE. She also worked on thecrews of THE RIVALS and THECHILDREN'S HOUR. raja is ajunior Biology major attending

Rhodes under a full academic scholarship. I--ier in-terests include running, playing piano and buyingearrings.

BRYAN FORD is a senior Busi-ness Administration major atRhodes who appeared as FrankCheeryble, Mr. Lenville and BoyMobbs in NICHOLAS NICKLEBYand was in the cast of COWARDYCUSTARD. He also served asStage Manager for THE CHIL-DREN 'S HOUR. Hometown rolesinclude Basil Haliward in THE PICTURE OF DORIANGRAY and Carleton Fitzgerald in LIGHT UP THE SKY.He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and col-lects baseball cards.

TONY ISBELL has been one of thebusiest actors/ directors in town

Playhouse. He has also directedTHE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK for

MorrisTownsend in THE HEIRESS at Theatre Memphis, MarcAntony in JULIUS CAESAR at Playhouse, and Austinin TRUE WEST at Little Theatre . Tony has also appearedin commercials and music videos and was the evil alien,"Mins" in I WAS A ZOMBIE FOR THE FBI, a moviewhich is gaining a large cult following.

DEBORAH HARRISON is the BoxOffice Manager at the McCoy andappeared as Mrs. Squeers andMrs. Crummles in NICHOLASNICKLEBY here. Last season, sheplayed May in Sam Shepard'sFOOL FOR LOVE at Circuit and

ANJEANETTE JONES was Rosa-lie Wells in THE CHILDREN'SHOUR at the McCoy last season,and ran lights for Pooh Kaye/Eccentric Motions when theycame to Memphis as part of theMcCoy Visiting Artists Series. Inother theatres , she has performedin YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU,

I REMEMBER MAMA, THE SOUND OF MUSIC and MYFAIR LADY. "Ajay" is a Rhodes sophomore majoring inTheatre and Media Arts and has worked as an inter-preter for the deaf.

The Company (Cont.SARAH JONES last appeared atthe McCoy as Nancy Twinkle inLITTLE MARY SUNSHINE. Beforethat, she performed in our produc-tions of WONDERFUL TOWN asMrs. Wade, in THE GONDOLIERSas Contadine, and in TWELFTHNIGHT. She turned in a memorableperformance in our production of

COWARDY CUSTARD. Sarah is a senior Theatre/ Musicmajor and member of the Rhodes College Singers.

JUDE KNIGHT is making a much-welcomed return to the Memphisstage after having left our cityseveral years ago. Before herdeparture, she was a favoriteleading lady in Theatre Memphismusicals, performing in OHCOWARD, as Guenevere in CAM-'ELOT and as Eliza Doolittle in MYFAIR LADY, the first production in their then-new facilityin 1975. Since then, she has lived in Saudi Arabia, inGeorgia, and in Alabama She remained active in theatreduring that time, playing Nancy in OLIVER for theMacon (GA) Little Theatre and La Mome Pistache inDothan (AL) Little Theatre's CANCAN. We welcome thistalented actress and singer to her McCoy debut andwish her a happy Memphis homecoming.

here at the McCoy. He has onstage credits in SLEEP-ING BEAUTY, THE BALD SOPRANO and ON THE 20THCENTURY at Poplar Pike Playhouse. Greg enjoysreading , drawing , acting and talking.

KYLE LEGG is returning to theMcCoy stage after his hilariousportrayals in NICHOLAS NICKLE-BY. His most recent stage creditwas in the bumbling title role inTHE REAL INSPECTOR HOUNDat the Little Theatre and he kepteveryone in stitches as four-year-old Cathy in CLOUD 9 at Circuit.He also appeared in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY atTheatre Memphis and THE BEST LITTLE WHORE-HOUSE IN TEXAS and YOU'RE A GOOD MAN,CHARLIE BROWN at Memphis State , where he is asenior. Kyle worked this summer as an entertainer atSix Flags Over Georgia.

LILLA MAGEE is an alumna ofRhodes and of the McCoy Theatrewhere she took on numerous rolesin NICHOLAS NICKLEBY andplayed Kate in THE TAMING OFTHE SHREW, Nellie in SUMMERAND SMOKE, Rosaline in LOVE'SLABOUR'S LOST, Essie in YOUCAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, Mary

Warren in THE CRUCIBLE and Miranda in THETEMPEST. Lilla also appeared as Dull Gret and Angiein TOP GIRLS at Circuit and in THE PHILADELPHIASTORY at Theatre Memphis. By day, she is a displaydesigner with Casual Corner.

PATTI MARSHALL is a seniorTheatre/Media Arts major wholast appeared on our stage inWONDERFUL TOWN. Before that,she put in appearances in THERIVALS and THE GONDOLIERSand worked backstage on SUM-MER AND SMOKE and COWAR-DY CUSTARD, for which she wasalso assistant choreographer. She was assistant direc-tor for THE CHILDREN'S HOUR and SUMMER ANDSMOKE. Patti is a member of Mortar Board and is anAdmissions Representative and the Sports InformationDirector for baseball here at Rhodes.

KRISTEN MURRAY, a Rhodessophomore, is returning after herMcCoy debut in LITTLE MARYSUNSHINE . She has communityand high school credits in produc-tions of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN,PETER PAN , A FUNNY THINGHAPPENED ON THE WAYTOTHEFORUM and FIDDLER ON THE

ROOF. Kristen is a member of the Rhodes CollegeSingers, Kappa Delta sorority and Honor Council. Sheenjoys aerobics and plans to be a child psychologist.

DETLEF SCHOLZ hails fromWyckoff, New Jersey, and is aPhysics major at Rhodes . This willmark his first appearance on theMcCoy stage, but he has per-formed in summer stock produc-tions of THE BUTLER DID IT,WEST SIDE STORY, THE LITTLEFOXES and THE SOUND OFMUSIC. His interests include tennis and horsebackriding.

ANN G . SHARP is an alumna whorecently lent her talents to us inSONDHEIM & SONDHEIM, lastyear's benefit concert, and beforethat, she was the pie-baking Mrs.Lovett in SWEENEY TODD. Ann hasalso appeared in a number of musi-cals at Theatre Memphis, includingWHERE'S CHARLEY?, A LITTLE

NIGHT MUSIQ OH COWARD, THE KING AND I (as Anna),and KISS ME, KATE. Ann recently appeared in the femaleversion of THE ODD COUPLE at Germantown Commun-ity Theatre.

BRAD SHELTON appeared as aforest ranger in last season's LIT-TLE MARY SUNSHINE. He is asophomore whose previous actingcredits on other stages include thetitle role in BYE, BYE BIRDIE, Paulin A CHORUS LINE and Benjaminin JOSEPH AND THE AMAZINGTECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, aswell as roles in SNOOPY and PILLOW TALK. He likes toread , sing and play tennis.

MARK-LANDON SMITH is makinghis second appearance here sincehis 1986 Rhodes graduation. Heplayed Frank Lippincott last seasonin WONDERFUL TOWN for us.Mark's undergrad performances atthe McCoy are numerous and in-elude Sir Andrew Aguecheek inTWELFTH NIGHT, Antonio in THE

GONDOLIERS, and roles in COWARDY CUSTARD,NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW,THE APOLLO OF BELLAC and THE TEMPEST. He hasalso been an instructor at Children's Theatre, an ex-perience which has greatly enhanced his career as a pro-ducer of horror films. Mark is the new Box Office Managerat Theatre Memphis.

MARTY STORY has just returnedfrom a summer stage managementinternship with the Wolftrap Foun-dation in Vienna, VA. We're sure theWolftrap company was in capablehands, since she has been takingcare of everyone at the McCoy forsome time now. In addition to beingour Stage Manager, she has beenthe Technical Director at Memphis Childrenis Theatre.Marty has appeared onstage in TWELFTH NIGHT and asAgatha in THE CHILDREN'S HOUR. Marty is a memberof the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

MICHAEL UPDEGRAFF is asenior History major from Reding-ton Beach, Florida. His McCoyroles include Joe in THE CHIL-DREN'S HOUR, King Ferdinand inLOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, Faulk-land in THE RIVALS and a verytouching portrayal of Smike in

LEIGH ANN VAUGHN was nomi-nated for a Best Actress award atthe Memphis Theatre Awards last iseason for her performance as the itvindictive Mary Milford in THECHILDREN'S HOUR, her McCoydebut. Last year, she received theMark Lee Stephens MemorialScholarship for the outstandingfreshman student of theatre at Rhodes. She has alsoappeared in her hometown of Huntsville, AL, in THEGLASS MENAGERIE , ANNIE, ABSURD PERSONSINGULAR, THE FANTASTIKS, YOU CANT TAKE ITWITH YOU and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNI-COLOR DREAMCOAI.

ERICA YODER has appeared atthe McCoy in LITTLE MARY SUN-SHINE and WONDERFUL TOWNand at Theatre Memphis as Norain BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS.Prior to these theatrical experi-ences, however, Erica had alreadybegun quite an impressive careerin dance. her years as a dancer

have seen her in principal roles in the Memphis, Rich-mond (VA) and Fort Wayne (IN) Ballets and wo seasonswith the prestigious Joffrey II in New York. She is alsoDirector of the student Public Relations program forthe McCoy, a member of the Rhodes College Singers,and is an active member of the Committee for Socialand Political Action here at Rhodes.
