Tepper, Podiatrist TOENAIL SURGERY Nail problems often result from improper trimming, minor injuries, or repetitive trauma. Common disorders include ingrown nails, fungal infections, and blood beneath the nail. With chronic or severe cases, a podiatrist may recommend removing all or a portion of the nail. Most tocnail surgeries can be done in the doctor's office in less than an hour, using local anesthesia. Laser surgery is done at a hospital because of the special equipment involved. Most patients experience very little pain immediately after nail surgery and throughout the two-to-thrce week healing process. If any bone has been removed, healing will take a bit longer. The podiatrist may prescribe pain medication and advise soaking the toe several limes daily for one week. Feet seem especially susceptible to nail problems of all kinds. It might be because of all the lime they spend in dark, moist places, or it might be because of the lack of attention they get. Whatever thecausc, your podiatrist is well-equipped to help provide the cure, from medication to surgery, as well as preventive steps to take to prevent future problems. Don't take another step until you see us for family fool care here at Rice Medical Center. Call 234-5571.1 am there every Tuesday. P.S. Some drainage is normal when a tocnail has been surgically removed.
