On 30th June 2012, we celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee, the London 2012 Olympics, the Refugee
Week and the achievements of our mentors & mentees. The Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP and
Rachael Takens from Trust for London awarded certificates to several mentors, mentees, children
and volunteers. The event was graced by the attendance of distinguished guests and DJ from
Jobcentre Plus-Plaistow. Mr Timms and Rachael Takens offered their generous compliments to
the terrific work of WHEAT MST which produced amazing results on a shoestring.

• Student Placement
• WHEAT MST has already provided 16 social work students from
Havering College, Greenwich University, East London University
and Goldsmith College-University of London a placement where
they had the opportunity to gain practical experience with real life
cases. The students successfully provided advice and advocacy
to WHEAT MST service users who were in a crisis situation.
• Children and Young People’s Project
• We are pleased to inform our readers that we have now started
young people’s programme for 16-19 year olds mainly football,
basketball and table tennis games starting from Sept. 2012. All
our activities for 3-15 year olds are on-going. The activities are
funded by the YAPP Charitable Trust. Join us for a Basketball
game on 28th August and other Community Games on 29th Oct.
• Volunteering Opportunities
• Currently WHEAT MST supports its volunteers with different
skills such as Finance, IT, Art, and other areas by providing
practical experiences in their respective fields which increase
their employability. This programme is led by Amreen Raza, our
Human Resources and Finance Manager.
• Consultancy Services
• We have started consultancy services by providing support to
other agencies to set up their own mentoring programmes by
delivering one-to-one advice sessions, workshops, and training
tailored to their needs.
If you are looking for any of those services please contact

• The children’s activities have been running since the programme was set up in the summer
of 2007. We have continuously supported refugee and migrant families who cannot
financially afford to send their children to sports, music or art club. Many children have
come back repeatedly to our activities. Some children who came at the beginning of the
project are still with us. This clearly shows the value and quality of our programmes.
• Children’s club is getting more exciting from time to time!
• The children’s club had become more popular than ever as we are privileged to have
professional art teacher Litun Mohanty, music teacher Helen Mackenzie and basketball
coach Jose Celorio. On 30th June 2012 we had art competition of under 5s and photo
exhibition produced by Litun.
• The children’s club takes place every Wednesday 4.30pm - 6.30pm and can be joined by
any child aged between 3-15 years. Recently we have set up a Young People’s Project for
those aged 16-19 years old.
