LAST TIME VS. EASTERN ILLINOISDelaware and Eastern Illinois have never faced off in women’s basketball history.

DeFREESE MAKES SPLASH IN SOPHOMORE CAMPAIGNAfter playing just 24 minutes a season ago, Samone DeFreese has made quite the name for herself through five games this year. The guard nearly reached a triple double in Delaware’s heartbreaking overtime loss to Boston University with career highs of 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 43 minutes of play. She followed with her first career double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds against Saint Peter’s. DeFreese is currently second for the Hens with 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, marks that are good for 11th and 12th, respectively, in the CAA.

ENABOSI TABBED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEKNicole Enabosi was tabbed the CAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday. The junior helped guide Delaware to a 2-1 week by averaging a double double of 22.0 points and 13.7 rebounds while shooting 70 percent (24-of-34) from the field. The forward added six blocks and 10 assists for the Hens. A Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree, Enabosi opened the week by going 8-of-9 (.889) from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe for 22 points with six assists and 17 rebounds at Hartford. In UD’s win over American, she led all scorers with 25 points. Against Boston University Sunday, she notched a double double with 19 points and 17 re-bounds in the overtime loss. Enabosi’s two games with 17 rebounds tied her career best. She leads the CAA with 21.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest and a field goal percentage of 69.8 (30-of-43).

GONZALES DISHES OUT MOST ASSISTS IN 18 YEARSSophomore Abby Gonzales amassed a career-high 10 assists to go along with eight points versus Boston University. Christine Koren [Motta] ’00 was the last Blue Hens player to record double figure assists in a single game as the guard dished out 10 at Lafayette on November 29, 1999.

BLUE HENS A SCORING THREATThe Blue Hens have registered five straight games of 70-plus points; Delaware only reached 70-plus points three times in each of the past two seasons. UD is averaging 76.6 points per game and last

Four players scored in double figures, but Delaware came up on the wrong end of Saturday’s 90-87 double overtime heartbreaker to Saint Peter’s at Saint Joseph’s Hagan Arena. Nicole Enabosi regis-tered a career-high 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds for her third double double of the season while Samone DeFreese notched 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double double. Enabosi added five assists and a season-high three blocked shots. Abby Gonzales contributed a career-high 18 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds while Bailey Kargo recorded 12 points, four assists and two steals. In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 13 tied scores, the Blue Hens (2-3) led by one with 1:37 remaining in the contest, but saw the Peacocks (3-2) tally four unanswered points as time wound down. Talah Hughes led Saint Peter’s with 22 points and 12 rebounds while four total Peacocks reached double figure scoring totals.

In Saturday’s heartbreaking double overtime loss to Saint Peter’s, Delaware reached the more than 85 points for the first time since an 86-62 victory over Old Dominion on February 14, 2013.

ENABOSI CONTINUES TO BE A DOUBLE DOUBLE THREATNicole Enabosi has accumulated three double doubles in five games played this season, a mark good for 14th nationally. She has fallen short of two additional double doubles by four total re-bounds. Enabosi was the first player in program history to open her collegiate career with three straight double doubles and tallied a six-game double double streak last season, a mark good for third in school history. The forward has amassed 24 during her three-year career. Elena Delle Donne (2009-13) holds the Delaware career record with 46 double doubles while Colleen McNa-mara registered 45 from 1991-95.

ADAIR CAPTURES FIRST BLUE HENS WIN AT HARTFORDDelaware collected its first win under first-year head coach Natasha Adair on November 13 with a 72-63 come-from-behind victory at Hartford.

NATASHA ADAIR SIGNS FIRST RECRUITS IN DAVENPORT, DICKEY, MCBRIDENatasha Adair announced recently the addition of highly regarded recruits Lolo Davenport, Jas-mine Dickey and Paris McBride to the women’s basketball roster for the 2018-19 campaign. A native of Plano, Texas, Davenport enters her senior campaign at Plano High averaging 22.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. The guard helped lead the Wildcats to the District Champion-ship while earning TABC All-Region accolades as a junior. Dickey, who hails from Baltimore, Md., averaged 23.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game while shooting .560 from the field and .740 from the charity stripe last season while earning Ms. Maryland Basketball accolades. She has led Catonsville High to an overall record of 69-9 through three seasons. A floor general with great court vision, McBride earned First Team All-State honors last season for Woodbridge High. A three-time team captain, the guard averaged 11.8 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game as a junior.“I’m really thrilled with this recruiting class,” exclaimed Adair. “My first recruiting class at the Univer-sity of Delaware has really shaped out to be a big one. We are signing some of the top players in the country, but the most important thing is that they are all character-first people. And that’s a big reason why they’re here. They fit into what we’re doing, they fit the chemistry of our current players and they’ll also help take us to the next level.”

BLUE HENS OPEN NATASHA ADAIR ERA The Blue Hens opened a new era November 10 as Natasha Adair is just the fourth head coach to roam the Delaware sidelines. Under the first-year head coach, the Hens look to bounce back from a 2016-17 campaign in which Delaware finished 16-14 overall and 10-8 in league play before falling in the CAA quarterfinals. UD returns three starters and eight letter winners from last season while adding three newcomers for the upcoming year.

DELAWARE KICK OFF 47TH SEASON OF WOMEN’S BASKETBALLThe 2017-18 season marks the 47th overall in the history of the University of Delaware women’s bas-ketball program. During their previous 46 years, the Blue Hens have registered a mark of 743-493 (.601) with 30 winning seasons under three head coaches.

CAA PRESEASON RANKINGS/HONORSDelaware was predicted to finish fifth in the 2017-18 CAA Preseason Poll as announced in late Oc-tober by the CAA. Additionally, junior Nicole Enabosi was picked as a Preseason All-CAA First Team selection. A two-year starter for Delaware, Enabosi was an All-CAA First Team and All-Defensive Team selection following a tremendous sophomore slate in 2016-17. The forward led the Hens in five statistical categories and also ranked in the Top 10 of seven CAA categories. Enabosi averaged a double double of 13.7 points and 10.0 rebounds and was 17th amongst all NCAA Division I players with 16 double doubles.

MAKEDA NICHOLAS REACHED BLOCKED SHOTS MILESTONEForward Makeda Nicholas became the eighth player in program history to reach the 100-block milestone with three blocks last season at James Madison (Feburary 10). Nicholas has now swatted 125 career shots, a mark good for fifth all-time (next: Paula Polyanski -- 155; 1983-86). Elena Delle Donne holds the Delaware career record with 273 from 2009-13.

University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak announced May 14, 2017 that Natasha Adair has been selected as just the fourth women’s basketball head coach in the program’s illustrious 46-year history.

“It became clear very quickly during this search that Natasha was the right person to lead this program,” remarked Rawak. “She brings a competitive spirit to all she does and is committed to helping young women grow on the court, in the classroom and in the community; embracing and supporting the complete student-athlete experience.”

Adair joins the Blue Hens from Georgetown University, where she turned around a four-win Hoya program to a postseason contender in three seasons as head coach. Behind Adair’s leadership this past season, GU finished the year with a 17-13 record, the most wins for the Hoyas since 2011-12, and garnered the team’s second straight trip to the Postseason WNIT.

Adair was recently selected as a court coach for the 2017 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team trials.

“Natasha Adair personifies the dream candidate to lead the new era of Blue Hens basketball,” said UD President Dennis Assanis. “She instantly brings the attributes that we seek in our new hires to drive our programs to success. With a deep commitment to both academics and athletics, she has mentored and guided student-athletes to achieve their career goals both on and off the court. Natasha is an outstanding leader who will actively engage our players, our campus and our UD community.”

The Silver Spring, Md. native is no stranger to the Colonial Athletic Association as her first head coaching stint took her to the College of Charleston, where she was 35-31 overall. In the Cougars’ first season in the CAA in 2013-14, Adair guided The College to record of 19-15, marking the third-highest win total in the school’s Division I era. Additionally, the squad finished third in conference play, defeated five postseason teams from the previous year and advanced to the semifinals of both the CAA Championship and the Women’s Basketball invitational.

“I would like to thank President Dennis Assanis and Director of Athletics Chris-si Rawak for this amazing opportunity to lead the University of Delaware’s women’s basketball program,” shared Adair. “Chrissi is relentless in her ef-forts to surpass all expectations for excellence here at the University Delaware. Under her leadership, and with the unwavering support of President Assanis, the decision to become a Blue Hen was not only an easy one but also the right one for my family and me. Their passion and commitment to comprehensive excellence for the student-athletes, along with the entire university community, is what compelled me to make this exciting decision.”

Adair played collegiately at Pensacola Junior College (1990-92) before play-ing and graduating from the University of South Florida with a degree in communications in 1994. She previously spent 13 seasons in the assistant coaching ranks, with seven years (2004-12) at Wake Forest University and six seasons (1998-04) at Georgetown University. Her coaching career has seen her develop and mentor 12 players who went on to play at the professional level.
