• They may not even speak English

• But they will make friends and live together in peace

A potted history of the Olympic Truce

• During the centuries when the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece were held, there were a lot of conflict and wars between different regions

• Going to the Games as an athlete or a spectator could have been dangerous business...

The Olympic Truce is born

• In the 9th century BC three rulers decided it was time to call a truce while the Games were on

• A treaty was signed

• There was to be no fighting for seven days before the Games and for seven days afterwards so that people could travel safely
