Olympiads 2 0 0 2 A report by To Wing Keung

A record-high total of 7,564 students from 137 secondary schools and junior colleges took part in the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad and the Singapore Secondary School Mathematical Competition organized jointly by the Department of Mathematics, National University of Singapore and the Society in May and June 2002. Together with the National University of Singapore, fourteen secondary schools served as local competition centers. In addition, for the first time, one of the competition centers was outside Singapore - in Suzhou - for participants from Suzhou Singapore International School. The competitions were sponsored by the Lee Foundation and were also partially supported by a financial grant from the Ministry of Education.

The winners of the above competitions received their prizes at the Singapore Mathematical Society Annual Prize Presentation Ceremony 2002, which was held at The Chinese High School on 21 Septembec 2002. The Guest-of-Honour was Professor Edison T. Liu, Executive Director, Genome Institute of Singapore.
