The annual College Fete will be held tomorrow evening, commencing at 6pm. You are all invited to come along and enjoy the marvellous entertainment, and to sample the produce of the variety of stalls. The organising committee has worked tremendously hard over recent months preparing for this family

event. There will be plenty of food and refreshments, and lots of bargains, so please support this important College activity. All proceeds from the fete will provide resources that will be used for the benefit of the students.

Our East Timor Immersion group, led by Mr Greg Mills and Ms Vicky Howie, will conclude their work today on various projects in and around Baucau, and they are expected back in Alice Springs tomorrow afternoon. We look forward to hearing of their adventures. We are grateful to the Marist Brothers communities in Darwin and Baucau who have looked after the group during their travels.

Thank you to Mr Peter Augustin and Ms Kathryn Reilly for coordinating the College s involvement at last Friday s Soccer Gala day at Ross Park; a carnival involving all the secondary schools in Alice Springs. Nearly sixty students from Years 8, 9 and 10 participated as players, and some senior boys helped out as referees. It was quite chilly with a rather fierce easterly wind blowing for most of the day and the non-participants had to rug up in the fairly open conditions. All the teams were mixed with boys and girls and clearly many of the players hadn t previously played a lot of soccer; all the same they had a lot of fun and most of our teams had their share of victories.

There are two major activities coming up next week for the Traeger campus; the annual Alice on the Line camp for our Year fives will be held at the Telegraph Station next Monday through to Wednesday, and the Traeger Amazing Race /BBQ will take place from 5pm-8pm next Thursday, 22nd

September. Parents of Year five students are invited to join the group at the Telegraph Station at any stage, and everybody is welcomed to inspect the Traeger campus and stay for the BBQ on the Thursday evening. Staff members will be available to show parents and visitors over the campus facilities and to answer any questions about the courses and programmes offered at the Middle School campus.

Local construction firm, Asbuild, has been awarded the College contract for the refurbishment of the Art room at Bath Street, and also for the installation of new air conditioners in the Bath Street Hall. It is anticipated that the work in the Art room will be completed during the break for the September school holidays, and then the changes in the hall, early in Term Four; hopefully with minimal interruption to the school programme.

Reflection-Give me some Skin!

Enrolments for 2012 are now being processed for all levels at the College and it will greatly assist our planning if re-enrolments and new enrolments are known earlier rather than later. If there are issues concerning school fees, please discuss these with the Principal; they should not be a reason to prevent a child s attendance at the College.

Families are also invited to apply for the various scholarships and bursaries that are awarded each year. Applications for these awards will be available soon.

Dear Parents and Friends, If you have been unable to sell the raffle book issued to your family, it must be Returned to school tomorrow. This is a legally registered raffle with the Justice Department. All books must be accounted for and failure to return means you will need to pay the $20 for the lost raffle book. Campus News: Bath St Here we are in the busyness of Fete week. There are many things going on around the campus in preparation for the big night tomorrow evening. Please join us between 6.00 and 9.00pm for something to eat, drink and you can buy up big from the many stalls. It should be a lot of fun, and the weather forecast is perfect. Tomorrow we need to have every single raffle book returned, as the raffle will be drawn at the Fete tomorrow evening.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME The children preparing to receive the Eucharist for the first time are well into their preparation with the Preparing To Celebrate books. Father Jan has asked that these children also receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before their First Communion. The Preparing To Make Peace programme commenced last week, and will continue during school time so that the children are ready in time. The books arrived today and will be sent home during the programme along with the Communion books. We will now revert to our traditional sacramental programme where the children prepare for Reconciliation in Year 2. Our current Year 2 classes will work through the programme in Term 4. Please keep your eyes open for notes re meetings next term.

Bath Street Students are Bucket Fillers!

At Bath Street we are working hard to be "bucket fillers", not "bucket dippers"! But what are "bucket fillers" and "bucket dippers"?

During Monday morning assembly we read the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. This book tells how we all carry an invisible bucket that contains our feelings. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When our bucket is empty, we feel sad. A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people. By doing this, they are filling other people's buckets and filling their own bucket at the same time. How can you tell if you have filled someone s bucket? A smile on their face is a good indication!

On the other hand, a bucket dipper says or does things to cause other people to feel bad. A bucket dipper empties their bucket when they say and do mean things. Have You Filled A Bucket Today? encourages positive behaviour as children see how very easy and rewarding it is to

express kindness, appreciation, and love on a daily basis.

KISS N CO Most of the Kiss n Go users are doing the right thing, and the system is working quite well. There are still a few issues, with parents cutting in, parents taking a long time to move out of the area, and lots of families without names. We have printed a number of cards this week, but if you still do not have a name card please contact the office on 89508666. The Town Council Rangers are very concerned about parents who park around the corner onto Wills Terrace, and block traffic in both directions. They will continue to fine road users who insist on doing this.

FOOTY COLOURS DAY Next Friday 23rd September, the children are invited to come to school in their favourite footy colours. If they do not follow a football team, the colours can be netball, basketball or any other sport. This is always a good day as most sporting codes are well into their finals.

Year 6 Class Mass Tomorrow, 12:00-1:00pm. This will be held in our school hall and parents of students are invited to attend. Monday 19th : Year 5 s are to be dropped off at the Telegraph Station Wednesday 21st : Students to be picked up from the Telegraph Station at 1:30pm There will be plenty of opportunity for our parents to be a part of this, whether it be during the day or after hours for the Mass on the Monday or the BBQ dinner on the Tuesday. As a note, parents intending to sleep over will need to have a Working With Children Card . Many thanks to those who attended the meeting last night.

Homework Centres : LAST WEEK FOR Term 3

Another opportunity has been made available for the Year 7:1/7:2 students on a Wednesday after school. The staff are providing a lot of extra support; please encourage your child to take advantage of this.

Traeger Campus Homework Centre Thursdays. You need a Traeger Homework Centre Card to attend. Please contact the front office for a permission form. Indigenous Homework Centre Monday and Thursdays. The sessions go from 3:00

4:00pm and will be held in the 6.2 homeroom. Students attending will be bussed home. Year 5 Homework Centre Wednesdays 3:00-4:00pm. This will be held in our library where the students must be collected from at 4:00pm please.

Parent Teacher Interviews October 19th

New Format Parent teacher interviews will be held in your child s classroom on this night, not in the Hall as previously. We encourage parents to bring their child to the interviews and take time to look around at other areas of the campus. Specialist teachers will also be in their classrooms for interviews. Tea and coffee will be available in the Library. Interviews can be booked through the front office in 10 minute time slots from 3:30-5:30pm and 6:00-8:00pm(89 508 555) If there are issues that may need more than this time to discuss, please feel free to make an alternative appointment.

SOCCER Last Friday 9th September, Traeger Campus joined together with Sadadeen to enter six teams into the Desert Storm Inter-school Soccer Carnival. The carnival included students from Years 7-10, and we had some Year 11 students attend to help referee the games. We had three Traeger teams; the OLSH Socceroos, OLSH United and OLSH Ronaldos. All three teams played well and enjoyed the spirit of the carnival. Whenever a team had a break, they would use their time to sit on the side-lines and support the other OLSH teams. Despite a cold, windy day, the students managed to enjoy themselves. The Socceroos team enjoyed the experience so much that these students have decided to put a 7-a-side team together for the 7-a-side Summer Soccer Competition coming up next month. A big thank you goes to the key organiser of the event - Monique Gadd, the De-sert Storm School Sports Coordinator. Thanks to the senior students such as Michael McGuirk who refereed our games and encouraged the younger OLSH students while they played against students who were sometimes twice their size! The focus was having fun and playing fair, something our OLSH students manage without much effort at all. Well done!
