Parish Vision Statement
We, the faith filled members of San Miguel Parish and its
Missions, a part of the
Archdiocese of Santa Fe, find strength, unity and grace in the
Celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. As the voices
and hands of Jesus in our time, our purpose is to express
God’s grace by offering Christian Love and
Service to each other and to everyone we meet. We reach out
to the world in prayer, action and deeds in unity with the Holy
Roman Catholic Church.

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 28, 2018
In the First Reading the people returning from exile hear
God speak through his Prophet Jeremiah saying, “They
departed in tears but I will console them and guide them. I
will lead them to brooks of water”. Water was a sign of
God’s attentive and tender love. They are filled with hope
as God presents himself as their loving Father.
The Second Reading speaks of Christ as high priest. The
priests of the Old Testament offered sacrifices for their own
sins and those of the people. In Jesus, there was no sin.
Jesus was chosen as high priest because of His loving
obedience and self giving to God the Father. This reading
ends with a line from Psalm 110: 4, “You are My Son, this
day I have begotten You”.
This brings to mind our own baptismal priesthood. As a
priestly people, we bring others to Christ in the way we lead
our lives.
In the Gospel story of blind Bartimaeus, we have a parable
in action. The crowd tried to silence him but Jesus saw in
him the gift of deep faith, a faith that saves.
When Bartimaeus was brought to Jesus, he called Jesus
Son of David and Master. This was a sign of profound
respect.
He stood before Jesus with confidence and trust. He asked
to be healed. When he received his vision he also had the
insight needed for any disciple and he followed Jesus.
He didn’t just stand there, he sprang up into action. This
gospel story has much to teach us.
Respectfully,
T. Rios
