Mission Statement
We the people of Old Mission Santa Inés, following the path of Jesus Christ, are making His vision a reality through
love, unity, justice, joy and hope.
FROM OUR PASTOR
TODAY
I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice…I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations. Isaiah spoke these words about the Messiah, the anointed one of God. But on this feast of Jesus’ baptism we remember that by baptism in Christ (Christos= anointed) we are part of His body and called to take part in His mis-sion. A president once spoke of “a thousand points of light.” It’s not a bad image, as the light of each one of us may seem small and
easily blown out, yet together, with God’s grace, we shine like a brilliant starlit night.
Soon we will be marking a spe-cial time of respect for human life and our need to protect the most vulnerable, especially the children in the womb. May God help us to work for this in all we do, for each of us is precious in God’s eyes!
God bless and keep you!
Fr. Bobby

OUR HOLY FATHER'S INTENTIONS FOR JANUARY
Young People and the Example of Mary. That young people, especially in Latin America, follow the example of Mary and respond to the call of the Lord to communicate the joy of the Gospel to the world.
Did you know? Strive to be a ‘safe adult’ in a child’s life. One of the most common responses to stories from abuse victims who suffered in silence for years is, “Why did you wait so long?” For many children, they wait because they have no one they trust to talk to about what’s happening to them. Many victims feel ashamed and guilty. Take steps to become a trusted adult to the children in your life. Tell them you will listen without judgment or punish-ment, even if they are scared to talk about something. CALLED TO SERVE
For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the di-vine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. To-day we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jor-dan River.
John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as “one mightier than I.” But he did as Jesus asked, and the “Holy Spirit descended” and heaven’s voice spoke to Jesus, “You are my beloved Son.” Jesus was beginning his pub-lic life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him.
Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today’s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, “peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve God’s word.
