INTENTIONS FOR MAY

Evangelization: The Mission of the Laity. That the lay faithful may ful-fil their specific mission, by re-sponding with creativity to the challenges that face the world today.

Did you know? Talk to your teens about handling workplace violence. Many teens will get their first job while still in high school. Building a work ethic is a great and necessary skill, but teens need to be informed to about how best to handle possible workplace violence. Coworkers are not always thor-oughly screened, and your teen could face another employee’s rage or anger that could possible put them in danger. Talk to your teens about warning signs—short tempers, intimidation, drug use—and about how to remove them-selves when they feel unsafe in a situation, and how to report any concerns they have, to a safe adult. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article “What Can You Do to Help Prevent Workplace Violence?” visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.

Reminder The Public Utilities Commission re-minds all of us in the 805 area code that after June 2, we will have to dial 1-805 before all calls, even local ones. This is because a new area code, 820, will be “overlaid” our present code.

Today is a day simply to pon-der the fact that in baptism we were claimed by God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy prompts us to fix in our hearts the truth that God is the Lord of both heaven and earth and there is no other god. Saint Paul reminds us that, because we re-ceived the Spirit of adoption in bap-tism, we are now children of God. In the Gospel Jesus charges us with the

responsibility to make other disciples. These realities make today’s solemnity a day of praise, adoration, and responsibility. It is a fitting day to thank God for the ab-solutely free gift of faith that we were given in baptism. It is also a day to ask God for

strength to take on the responsibility of sharing that faith with others.

NOTICIAS

What Can You Do to Help Prevent Workplace Violence?”
