Old Linebrook Cemetery page 1 Old Linebrook Cemetery, 1725 Linebrook and Newberry Street Ipswich, MA 01938 Compiled by [email protected] This project was initiated in the Fall of 2003. The gravesite information was taken by direct observation in Fall, 2003. Stones are enumerated as reference numbers below roughly in the groupings in which they occur; it is often hard to tell which goes with which. except by the names. Reference numbers refer to a hand drawn map of the location of the graves and will help us, should you want a set of photographs. Spelling has been preserved as accurately as possible. The letter ‘ƒ’ is often used for the letter ‘s’. Æt means ‘aged’. Text within brackets like this [23] indicate that the text is difficult to read and may be in error. Overall, this cemetery is less than 100’ deep and 300’ wide. The Cemetery is in a country setting, behind a pretty stone wall with two gates. Bordered on the east by Newberry Street, on the west by a brook, on the south by Linebrook Road, and on the north by a sloping hill that continues down to a marshy area. Most mentioned towns border Ipswich. The cemetery records were typed on index cards, by the WPA in the 1930’s, from existing, earlier records! So some of the stone inscriptions and other additional facts were preserved. Locations of graves refers to a grid pattern that these early note takers used, with section C nearest to Newberry Street and section B slicing the back half of the Cemetery, further away from Newberry Street. There is no section A. There is also no section 1. The numerical sections start with 2 and run east to west on Newberry Street up to 7. Parenthetical notations are my remarks, or remarks by the earlier recorders. There are bound to be some transcription errors, for which we apologize. Please send an email if you encounter any apparent errors or if you are a resource for further information about any of the people interred in this cemetery.
