Olathe Public Schools 2016-17 Accomplishments Students prepared for their future! Student Accomplishments Olathe Northwest High School senior Bessie Bauman has been named a 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholar. U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one man and one woman from each state based on academic success, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. Andrea Dahl, Olathe North High School, received the Grand Award at the 2017 Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. Jordan Phommachack, Olathe North High School, was one of 44 Kansas Career and Technical Education Scholars named by the Kansas State Department of Education. Twenty-one district students were finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program. They are Mason Crabtree, Brock Kaufmann, Matthew Miller and Travis Nebeker of Olathe East High School; Sabrina Bogart, Adam Coffman, Dylan Honors, Ethan Johnson, Alexander Kolar, Alexis McCalla and Arvind Subramanian of Olathe North High School; Cole Brabec, Sumner Holtzman, Zachary Kulphongpatana, Michael Lacy, Greta Lundy and Logan Rance of Olathe Northwest High School; Bethany Bluel, Nicholas Hinman, Emmalee Reed and Kyle Wetter of Olathe South High School. The Olathe North Science Bowl team of Dylan Honors, Shulammite Lim, Arvind Subramanian, Alex Kolar and Colin Kalicki won the Regional Kansas City Science Bowl. Olathe North High School and California Trail Middle School each won first place at the Kansas Science Olympiad in their respective age divisions. Sathvik Kasarabada, California Trail Middle School, received first place in the Kansas National Geographic Bee and competed in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. David Lye of Sunnyside Elementary School won the district spelling bee in February and competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. Olathe North High School band was one of two high school bands from across the nation that performed at Carnegie Hall during the Distinguished Concerts International New York. The Olathe Northwest High School Orchestra was showcased at the National Band & Orchestra Festival held at Carnegie Hall. Cole Bellamy, Olathe North High School, was named to the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Honor Choir. Nicole Allen, Olathe North High School, was named to the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Honor Orchestra. Ben Heueisen of Olathe North High School and Andrew Wray of Olathe East High School were named to the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. A team of five students from the Design Academy located at Olathe East High School placed in the top five in SourceAmerica’s Design Challenge. Cameron Wasinger, Matt Reichmuth, Tanner Williams, Isaac Taylor and Holden Hartley traveled to Washington, D.C. to present their design at the Design Challenge Finals. • Olathe North High School had four wrestlers win state titles in their respective weight classes: Jevon Parrish (126), Riley Alderman (132), Tyler Flood (138) and Terrell Garraway (160).

• Nick Jouret, Olathe South High School, won an individual state title in the 170-pound division.

• Olathe Northwest High School volleyball team won the 6A state championship.
