Read the Question Make sure you understand what the

question is asking. Are there specific aspects of the

civilization or group you are to address? (social, political, economic)

Make sure you address the time period parameters given in the question.

(Southeastern Indians) changed and stayed the same politically, economically, and religiously from the mid 1700s to the post Civil War era.

changed/stayed the same in the three areas

Your Essay Question Describe how the lives of African-

Americans in Oklahoma changed and stayed the same from the time of Indian Removals in the 1830s to the 1970s, focusing on topics such as freedom, voting rights, discrimination, and segregation.

Thesis Needs to state that African-Americans

changed/stayed the same in those areas.

Needs to state the time period. Needs to specifically state what the

changes and continuities are. Will probably be more than one

sentence.
