Report of the Regent
The past few months have been exci>ng >mes!
I love visi>ng chapters and mee>ng our gracious
members. I have already been to 15 chapters so far
and I look forward to visi>ng the rest soon.
The CMR/CAA is now complete and it shows how hard you have all been
working! Congratula>ons on a good year. OSDAR gained 194 new
members by applica>on during 2016, 31 of those being Junior Members;
7 members enrolled in the New Members Course and 9 enrolled in the
New Horizons. I believe next year will be even beDer because you now
have the tools to start planning for the 2017 CMR/CAA.
President General Ann Dillon announced at February NBOM that
she believed DAR work was community service and therefore, all DAR
work would now count toward Service to America hours. Oklahoma
Daughters logged in 76,358 hours of community service during 2016 so
with the hours of DAR work added next year, we should reach 150,000
hours for 2017 CMR! Be sure and keep track of your hours and report
them.
Register now for State Conference coming up April 20-22. There will be
a Welcome Dinner at the Olive Garden on Wednesday evening. Honored
guests include Curator General Barb Frankenberry, who will be
presen>ng our Thursday evening program, and Florida State Regent
Ginger Poffenberger and Mississippi State Regent Cynthia McNamara.
There will be a Talent Show Thursday evening that will be so much fun.
The 45th
Infantry Band will be playing on Friday evening and we will
honor our Chapter Regents. Don’t miss this event!
I hope to see you all soon. I love being your State Regent!

We have been very fortunate over the past few years to have a Vice President General from Oklahoma. Since the Vice
President General is a Na>onal officer, it does create some confusion at state events. Per protocol, the State Regent is top
ranking posi>on at ALL state events, followed by a Vice President General. Introduc>ons and such should be based on this.
The following informa>on may be found in the DAR Procedure Protocol Book on page 4. The official order of precedence for any DAR func%on is based on current rank or posi%on with elected before appointed
officials. The first posi%on is held by the hostess or person presiding. For example: At the chapter level this is the Chapter
Regent; at the state level, the State Regent; at the na%onal level, the President General. When a na%onal or district chairman
presides at a mee%ng or a meal func%on she is considered the hostess.
Pointers by Margaret Barbour, Protocol Chair
• Person presiding, if not the State Regent
• State Regent
• President General or her official representa%ve
• Governor of hostess state or his/her official representa%ve
• United States Senators and Congressmen
• Mayor of hostess city or his/her official representa%ve
• County Execu%ve
• Chief Speaker
• Honorary Presidents General in order of seniority of service (An excep%on to this order might be to allow the Honorary
President General to stand first in this group in her own state to introduce the other Honorary Presidents General)
• Na%onal DAR Officers in order of official lis%ng (Execu%ve Officers followed by the Vice Presidents General. A Vice
President General may be permi7ed to be ahead of the other Vice Presidents General in her own state to introduce
those from other states.)
• Honorary Vice Presidents General
• Minister who offers the Invoca%on or Benedic%on
• State Senators and Representa%ves
• Honorary State Regents or Ex-Regents of hostess state in order of seniority of service as State Regent
• Past Na%onal Officers (who have not served as State Regent)
• Visi%ng State Regents, alphabe%cal according to state. (Some states may wish to intersperse these among the
Honorary State Regents for a more hospitable effect.)
• Ac%ve State Officers of the hostess state in order of official lis%ng in bylaws
• Na%onal presidents of other organiza%ons and other outstanding personages. (If present by official invita%on at DAR
gatherings, their place is determined by the current office held or by the chronological date of the founding of
respec%ve organiza%on. In case of perplexing decisions, use an alphabe%cal sequence by name of organiza%on.)
• DAR Na%onal Chairmen (alphabe%cal by commi7ee name per designated commi7ee category: standing, 2) special,
3) administra%ve, and 4) congressional, as listed in the Na%onal Directory.)
• DAR Na%onal Vice Chairmen Na%onal Advisory Board Members District Directors (elected or appointed)
• State Chairmen (na%onal commi7ees, state level commi7ees) State Vice Chairmen (same as State Chairmen)
• State presidents of other organiza%ons and other dis%nguished guests (These may be interspersed among the DAR
Na%onal Chairmen or Vice Chairmen of the hostess state to be more hospitable.)
• Hostess Chapter Regents
• Visi%ng Chapter Regents (alphabe%cal by chapter name)

Phase I is Complete!
During the Na>onal Board of Management in February, I had
the opportunity to tour the Oklahoma Enrichment Center
and see firsthand the amazing ac>vity centers that are part
of our project. There are three interac>ve computers where
visitors can learn about the colonial era items that are all
part of the DAR Museum. There are also three other
learning sta>ons that are not computerized. One interac>ve
sta>on is located just outside the O’Bryne Gallery and the
others are located upstairs on the 3rd
floor. We have an
en>re wall that is covered with a beau>ful mural devoted to
our project.
There will be a Dedica>on Ceremony on Tuesday, June 27, at
12:30 pm. If you are planning to go to Con>nental Congress,
please plan to aDend the ceremony.
The next phase will be completed by June 2018. It will be
located in the O’Bryne Room and will be fashioned more like
a classroom. It will have tables and chairs and a large
Smartboard which can transport into the museum.
A Smartboard is a type of an interac>ve computer. It is
used to for teaching, conduc>ng mee>ngs and make
presenta>ons. It may also be used to conduct genealogical
seminars or used in the library for a presenta>on if needed.
We are making a tremendous impact on DAR, both here at
home and on the na>onal level. Our project is making
Oklahoma stand out among the other states and you should
be very excited and proud to be involved in such an
enormous mission! I must say, though, that we s>ll have a
way to go to make our goal of $85,000, so please support
this with your generous dona>ons. Remember, a dona>on
of $100 or more will go toward your membership in the
Heritage Club!

Chapter Leadership Development – Recognizing and Becoming a Leader
The New Horizons Course is designed for interested, enthusias>c and dedicated members to help them develop
into future chapter and state leaders. The goal is to inspire and ins>ll confidence in Daughters to take that next step
into leadership. The course consists of a series on online webinars; a study of DAR published resources, in-person
field trips, and a capstone project.
The New Horizons Course is a state-sponsored ac>vity that is administered at the state level and is geared to be
completed over the period of a year. This course is only available during the Dillon Administra>on, 2016-2019.
All par>cipants who complete the New Horizons Course will have the opportunity to take part in a special
gradua>on ceremony, complete with a diploma at State Conference.
I have enjoyed taking the New Horizons course. I have learned a lot about DAR that I never knew. Organizing the
field trip was a lot of fun, I didn’t know there are a lot of things to do around the metro. If you are even a liDle bit
interested in learning more about DAR, I would encourage you to take this course.
To get started, contact Linda Mann, the State Coordinator for the New Horizons Course.
Some key components for the course: Online Learning Modules. The par>cipant will complete a series of on-line webinars designed to
educate, enlighten and inspire par>cipants about DAR and what it means to be a leader. The webinars
make it possible for anyone to learn and par>cipate regardless of loca>on or schedule. DAR Publicaons and Resources. This sec>on guides par>cipants through the process of understanding
the governing documents and available resources for our society at the chapter, state and na>onal
level. Acvies and Tours. Par>cipants are encouraged to plan field trips for chapter members as well as
members across the state. It’s a great way to cul>vate friendships with other DAR Daughters around
the state and a fun way to learn something new. Capstone Project. The idea for the capstone project is for the course par>cipant to demonstrate her
leadership capabili>es by taking an ac>ve role in a chapter or state project.
