Happy Monday from Mrs Goodwin

Wow, I can’t believe it’s here – the final two days of Year 5! For today and tomorrow, I’ve put together some activities to help you stay safe over the summer including beach safety and what to do in an emergency. Plus some fun learning activities too. Well done for all your hard work over the last 4 months when life has been rather weird and indeed the whole of Year 5. You have been amazing and it has been a pleasure to see you develop and adapt to everything that has been thrown at you this year. Your enthusiasm for learning, care for those around you and attitude to life in general shows that you are going to be the BEST Year 6 year group EVER! Enjoy the next two days and don’t forget to email us. Most of all, have a brilliant summer. Take care, stay safe, have fun and we’ll see you in September.

Hello Rook Tor, I’m so happy that I’m your teacher next year. We have had so much fun in year five and I hope next year will be just as good (if not better because we will hopefully get a full year!) I have really enjoyed reading the emails Mrs Goodwin has sent on to me this week and I’ve tried to answer all your questions here: - Seafood is my favourite food (especially mussels and scallops). - My mum has a dog called Rosie who I look after a lot and we are on a waiting list for a golden

retriever puppy of our own (We’re so excited) - Surfing is my favourite sport but I also love PE with Joe and Kettlebells. - I do wear glasses and often wear contact lenses. - I was born in Swindon then went to university in Leeds and lived there for 10 years before coming

to Devon. - I have one sister who lives in Reading with her husband and two children. - I live with my fiancé Andy, we were due to get married during lockdown and are hoping to do it in

October (wish us luck!). - I have taught at OPS for 4 years, I try hard to be kind and I love teaching history. Now for Lily’s choices: - Books over movies / Ravenclaw over other houses / day over night/ sea over land/ flats over heels/

Summer over Winter. Have a wonderful summer and I’m looking forward to seeing you all in September!! Miss Kenmir xxxx

Living in our beautiful country of Devon, there is quite a good chance that you will be visiting a beach at some point during the summer. Please visit https://rnli.org/safety/beach-safety to find out how to keep safe at the beach.

What is a rip current, why is it dangerous and how can you

avoid one?

How can you avoid getting

WRITING – Beach Safety Poster

Using what you have learnt

during your reading today, create an informative poster to show members of the public how they can stay safe on the beaches this summer. Shown here is a fire safety poster that shows how you might choose to lay your poster out. Email these to your teacher. The best ones will, with your permission, be used on our Facebook page to help our school community stay safe this summer.

The idea is that you use them as a spotter book when you are out and about. Certain items are harder to spot than others and therefore worth more points. Here are some pages from our books:

Each book has about 50 pages of things you can spot, divided into various categories. On each page, it lists items to spot, shows an image, gives a description of this item and tells you how many points it is worth. There is also a space to tick and to write the date you spotted it.

Now over to you to create your own I-Spy book to use over the summer. Think of places you might go. •What is the item called? •Show a picture. •Describe the item or explain what it is for •How many points is it worth? •Leave a space for the date and a tick. •See my example on the next page
