OUR SOLUTION

The heaviest and the longest. Logistics challenge enables client to build a wind and energy infrastructure

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Vestas Offshore Wind took part in a competition to supply some of the highest energy generating wind power turbines in the world. This contest involved establishing the world’s largest land based windmill at the Hunterston test site in West Scotland, one of the windiest places in Europe. However, the port at Hunterston did not have port facilities to receive windmill parts of this size, so a custom quay had to be built. MHI engaged OIA to help navigate the multiple challenges related to the plan-ning and execution of a world first: The transportation of the largest windmill blade parts ever made.

The very long timeline of this project meant that MHI Vestas Offshore Wind needed a logistics partner who participated from the first minute of planning until completion several years later. This required a great deal of dedication as well as attention to detail and knowledge of the customer’s internal organisation. OIA’s Energy Team provided the consistency and continuity needed for a project

this size and duration. This true partnership between forwarder and client enabled MHI’s teams to focus on technical challenges of this enormous endeavour.

• Consolidation• Transportation management• Project cargo• Specialized logistics equipment
