excited. One child started running around incircles, another child started climbed into agrandma's lap, and one child went and sat downon the side of the grandparents as they began toread. In the infant room, Margaux and Violet's
grandmother Gwendolyn came to read to them. The girls looked surprised when she walkedthrough the door and called their names. Theteacher helped position the girls on grandma'slap while she sat in the glider. Before grandmacould start reading the girls were already trying toturn the pages of the book. When she got settled, and began reading, the girls, became focusedand calmed by grandma's voice. As she readsand held the girls on each knee, you can see thatboth the girls and grandma were enjoying theirtime together.

The P2 classroom has a designated recycling binfor the children and teachers to put empty milkjugs, bottles and used paper from the art shelfinto. One day in class, the teachers asked thechildren a question,"What else can we do with allthese found recyclable items?"Earth Day was fast approaching, so this quastionwas asked to the rest of the center, and we allbegan to brainstorm ideas of what we could dowith items otherwise considered to be no longeruseful. That's where the Found Objects Rainbowproject was started.Parents and families were asked to bring in itemsthat they find at home, work or in nature. Eachclassroom was given a color, and they wereresponsible for collecting items to match thatcolor. Older children were also asked to help the
younger classrooms collect objects for theirclassroom. Baskets were put in each classroomfor the collection of found objects. Teachers wentthrough cabinets in classrooms and parentssearched at both home and work finding itemsthat were red, orange, yellow, green andblue.Families would come in and say things like"look at all the yellow things we found" or wehave just a few orange items for the rainbow". OnApril 22nd, we began to construct our veryRainbow.
The P2 class started first with all the red foundobjects they had collected. Red items were allover the room, but soon the objects foundthemselves in there own special spot on therainbow. One by one the classrooms had achance to add their own part or two to their colorof the rainbow.Older siblings in the P1 and P2 classrooms

helped their younger brothers and sisters in theinfant and toddler classrooms. As children gluedobjects to supersizes rainbow, they began toproblem solve how each of the items would stickbest to the wood. They chose from tape, a gluestick, ticky tack, duct tape and rubber cement.
During the next few days, all of the children fromthe different age groups and classroom alongwith their parents and families, saw the foundobject rainbow come together.
