Why should I attend Pike County CTC?We work with business and industryadvisors to ensure that our students arereceiving a relevant education and will leaveus with skills that are needed in the localemployment market. We also provideopportunities to earn college credit andscholarships so that you are prepared to goon for more education after high school andhave a head start in college. How do I choose a program?Pike County Career Technology Centeroffers 15 different vocational programs fromwhich you can choose. Every year, PikeCounty CTC has sophomore tours andvisitation days when you are invited to visitour award-winning career/technicalprograms. Also, we will hold an open housein February for you and your family to visitthe school and check out the programs weoffer.  What courses should I take at my homeschool prior to enrolling at Pike CountyCTC?Students should complete the requiredcourses as mandated for graduation fromthe Ohio Department of Education. Students do have the opportunity tocomplete make-up classes at the CTC if theyare credit deficient. Once I’ve made the decision to attend PikeCounty CTC, how do I apply?Applications will be available to studentsafter tours, and student hands-on days inMarch. Is there an application fee?No.

When should I apply? Students may apply beginning in March, andapplications are accepted through the first twoweeks of the new school year. Why do I need to select three programs on myapplication?Programs have a maximum of 25 students.Students are ranked on their GPA andattendance.  If students are not accepted intotheir first choice, they may be placed into theirsecond or third choice. How will I know if I am accepted into aprogram? Students will be given a certificate ofacceptance in late April. Can I still enroll as a College Credit Plus (CCP)student?Yes, we offer CCP courses at the CTC, orstudents may take CCP classes independentlyat their college of choice. How will I get the academic credits I need tograduate?All academic credits required for graduationare offered at the CTC. Automotive Technology is a  two yearcareer and technical educationprogram designed to provide studentswith an introduction to a variety ofautomotive maintenance and testingareas. These areas would include basicas well as advanced automotivediagnostics. The junior year concentrates onbasic automotive service in all areasof the automobile.The senioryear builds upon what was taught inthe junior year and begins tospecialize in advanced diagnosticsincluding service in all areas,especially computer diagnostics andelectronic fuel injection.

If you delight in preparing a variety of foodfrom scratch, the BFS program might be yourrecipe for success. Together with theHospitality and Facility Care and the CulinaryArts programs, we prepare students forentry level positions in the food service andlodging industries. Students develop basicfood service production skills and hospitalityfundamentals through a combination ofclassroom instruction and hands-onexperience. All students are members of the FamilyCareer and Community Leaders of America(FCCLA) student organization. Studentsparticipate in career development eventspertaining to banquet set-up, dining roomattendant and laundry attendant. After completing these programs, studentsearn certificates in ServSafe and/or Rise UpFundamentals and customer service.

Building Maintenance is a two year careerand technical education program thatprovides students with a variety of skillbuilding activities to enhance employmentopportunities. Maintaining an efficient and safe workenvironment in the lab and work settings isone of the most important abilities todevelop.  In Building Maintenance, studentslearn these skills along with many others sothat they can be successful in the BuildingMaintenance field.  All the skills taught aretransferrable to other disciplines and careerfields.

This program prepares students to meet the needs of theever-changing office environment by providing experiencesin hands-on lab classes using modern equipment andcurrent software with special emphasis on tasks performedin the medical office. The medical industry is thriving in Ohio. With an estimated31% growth in medical office assisting (Ohio Means Jobs),the administrative medical assistant will continue to be anin demand occupation. Students are introduced to medicalterminology, patient scheduling, and billing.  Students can earn a certification in Medical AdministrativeAssisting (CMAA) through the National HealthcareAssociation. Along with the opportunity to be certified inthese areas, students may also earn additional industrycredentials in Microsoft Office Suite (MOS) Word, Excel,PowerPoint and Customer Service. Students will assume the role of small businessowner/manager for hands-on experience in a businessventure of their choice.  Students will also receive hands-onexperience through the student-run Credit Union andbecome proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, andmultimedia presentations.

Carpentry is a two year career andtechnical education program thatprovides hands-on experience. Studentswill acquire manipulative skills, safetyprocedures, judgment, technicalknowledge, and related occupationalinformation. This prepares students fora career in carpentry. The junior year concentrates on entrylevel construction procedures and handand power tool usage.The senior yearbuilds upon what was learned in thejunior year and focuses on advancedconstruction practices. These practicesinclude building a modular home for alocal client. The Carpenters Union test isoptional.

If you are creative and enjoy working withfood, Culinary Arts might be right for you!This program provides students with thefoundation to prepare a wide variety offoods. Through a combination of classroominstruction and hands-on lab work,students will learn inventory control,sanitation, restaurant management,hospitality while working toward theirServSafe certification. Students will prepare appetizingmeals while using state-of-the-artequipment. Students will be given theopportunity to prepare and serve food tothe public in out student-ranrestaurant, The New Generation Café.

Electrical Trades Technology is a two yearcareer and technical education programdesigned to prepare students for entry levelpositions in electrical trades. This includes allaspects of residential wiring as well ascommercial/industrial applications. By the end of the junior year students willhave entry level skills in basic electricaltheory, residential wiring, and basic conduitbending, as OSHA 10 certification.The senior year will consist of commercialand industrial wiring, program PLCs,controlling three phase motors, and skills incommercial conduit bending practices. Upon completion of this class students willhave completed the Accredited N.C.C.E.RCurriculum in Core Skills and Level 1Electrical Trades Curriculum.

Heating and Air Conditioning is an HVACExcellence Accredited two year career andtechnical education program designed toprovide students with hands-on skills for acareer in the HVAC field. The junior year focuses on basic electricity,gas and electric heating, the refrigerationcycle, brazing/soldering, air conditioningand troubleshooting skills. The senior yearbuilds upon skills acquired during thejunior year with a greater emphasis onsafety, brazing/soldering, troubleshooting,system design, and installation. Studentshave the opportunity to participate in on-the-job training. They are also prepared forthe EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Exam aswell OSHA 10 hour Certification.

opportunity to job shadow at an areanursing facility during the last grading periodand get on-the-job experience. Aftercompleting a year or two in the HFCprogram, the student can then advance tothe Basic Food Service and CulinaryPrograms for the remainder of their stay atthe CTC. With the skills developed in this program,students can seek employment in hotels,motels, restaurants, hospitals, nursingfacilities, schools, private homes, resorts,theme parks, and cruise ships to name afew. They are also building life skills for nowand the future.

In this project-based program, the juniors willbe learning several software applicationsincluding Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, andInDesign. Their course of instruction will focuson graphic design and video production.Students will use digital video cameras tocreate and edit video productions. As seniors,students will focus on digital photography andexpand their knowledge of skills learned in thejunior year. All students will be working towards completionof industry standard certifications in the AdobeCreative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite. Students will participate in BusinessProfessionals of America (BPA) and SkillsUSA.Students who successfully complete theprogram have the opportunity to earn up to 12CT credits which are transferable to severalOhio colleges.

Themedical industry is thriving, and thisunique program that includes advancedphlebotomy training, medical assisting,medical terminology, clinical laboratoryand patient care skills will enhance youremployability and future education inthe medical field. Successful students willbecome certified in First Aid, CPR, AED,OSHA-10, and as a National HealthcareerAssociation Certified PhlebotomyTechnician.

Students enrolled in this career-tech programare introduced to a variety of health care skillsto prepare them for entry-level employment inhospitals, nursing homes, home healthsettings, clinics and doctor's offices.  Thecurriculum includes: safety, infection control,legal and ethical issues, communication skills,anatomy, physiology, medical terminology thatincludes wellness and disease processes.       Successful students earn State Tested NurseAide certification along with CPR, First Aid,OSHA, and HIPPA training. Direct patient careskills such as measuring vital signs, assistingphysicians with medical procedures, nurseassistant training, blood glucose monitoring,oxygen set-up, simple dressings,electrocardiography and phlebotomy arecovered as well.

The Public Safety program teaches thestudent a variety of aspects of the criminaljustice field including the criminal trialprocess, techniques in police work,dispatch and the duties of a correctionsofficer and a crime scene investigator.These skills prepare students for gainfulemployment in entry level jobs of security,corrections, and public safety agencies.  Students will also develop employabilityskills that will enable students to enterand advance in the workplace. The PublicSafety program provides opportunities forthe development of competencies neededby individuals in the law and public safetyfield through participation incareer/technical student organizations tobetter learn leadership, citizenship, andshared responsibility activities.
