Dear Lions,

When you put on your vest, your community knows that good is on the way. But there is so much

more that Lions do every day that most don’t see. That’s why it’s so important that we share our

stories with our communities.

There’s so much you can do to take an active role in promoting your club. You can shine a spotlight

on issues that matter to you, increase support for your life-changing projects and, most importantly,

inspire others to take action and join you in service.

When you’re out helping people in your community, marketing probably isn’t high on your list of

priorities. But it’s important to understand that some simple marketing strategies can really make a

big difference in the way your community sees you. And supports you.

Check out ”Marketing 101: Five Ways to Promote your Club” and discover some great tips that can

boost your visibility, your brand and your impact.

I’m still in the process of filling my District Cabinet positions for the 2019-2020 Lions year and need your help in filling them. If you are

interested in being on my Cabinet in 2019-2020 please let me know of your intent. I know that I still need a Diabetes Chairperson, Extension Region

1 Chairperson, Environmental Chairperson, Alert Chairperson, Pin Chairperson & Tail Twister. Diabetes and Environment are two of our 5 core

initiatives. Please step up to help continue to make ours one of the best District’s in Ohio MD 13.

Well so far I’ve completed attending all 7 District Conventions. Whew, the only convention left is the State Convention May 18-20th in

Columbus. We recently held our District Officers Training on April 27th at the Alliance Middle School. I would like to commend PCC David Gauch &

PCC Paul Metrovich for a job well done. We had great Lion Leaders doing the heavy lifting. I would like to “Thank” PDG Bob Booher (Presidents),

DG Mike Tyler (Secretary’s), IPDG Wayne Christen (Membership) and Pat Bissler, Dee Pamer & 1VDGE Carol Snyder for working with the Leo’s.

Food was excellent, Dave did a great Presentation on Leadership and we all had a great time. I know that I learned a lot of new things and got some

great ideas.

2019-2020 will be here before you know it. Please submitted you’re PU-101 on your new Lion Officers with updated meeting days, time

and locations with addresses so that we can get our District Directory out on time. Thanks n advance for your cooperation! Remember, “Ask One!”

Yours in Lionism,

Best of Intentions CANTON LIONS CLUB REBUILD Last month I appointed a 6-person team to help rebuild the Canton Lions Club that I code named "The Out to Lunch Bunch" since we all met for lunch at Rockne's in Kent. Those members are PDG Bob Booher, ZC Bill Humphrey, DGE Tony DeLuke, FVDGE Lion Carol Snyder, SVDGE Lion Judy Young, and GMT Mary Ridenour. I've assigned them all tasks and I am honored to have such a great support group in these Lions. Some of us plan to meet with the Mayor of Canton this week and we hope we can find 10 community-minded people to rebuild that Lions Club and start the new club. We really are working hard to get this completed. SPRING CONFERENCE PCC David Gauch and PCC Paul Metrovich put together a wonderful learning experience for Lions this year. We targeted the incoming Club Presi-dent's, Secretary's, and Treasurer's this year as well as a membership course at rigorous 2.5-hour classes. I'd like to thank PDG Bob Booher, PCC David Gauch, IPDG Wayne Christen for providing great coursework. We also had great representation from our Leo's and I'd like to thank FVDGE Carol Snyder, Lion Dee Pamer and Lion Pat Bissler for their help in advising that young group. I'd like to thank Lion Sharon Hall that provided me with a lot of information for the Secretarial portion of the schooling. I think it was a great success and thank you for all those that attended. LIONS CODE OF ETHICS I was reminded recently that many of us sometimes forget we are supposed to think positively and to promote Lions. I've been asked to revisit our Code of Ethics that I try so hard to keep in mind (especially the last). Therefore, I felt it was worth repeating. * To Show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service. * To Seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my o wn self-respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part. * To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself. * Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself. * To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given. * Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means. * To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy. * To Be Careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy. My tenure as District Governor is closing. I still have a lot to accomplished. I certainly hope to get it all complete but it will still take some time. However, I will do my best as it's in my best intentions. District Governor Michael Tyler

2nd Vice District Governor Report – May 2019

Fellow Lions:

Frequently I think that the phrase “Fellow Lions” is rather inaccurate, as it can sometimes imply that the people you’re addressing are all

men, which is obviously not true! That got me to thinking, after meeting all sorts of medical personnel here at Cleveland Clinic. A number

of the doctor involved in care are “fellows” because they’re working with a group while learning their craft all the while.

We are rather like that as Lions. We work as a group, learning about service all the while, no matter where we are in our Lions journey.

Governors, Vice Governors, King Lions, Tail Twisters, New Lions, or Leos…we all keep refreshing our minds in service as we meet and

work together.

It has been such a joy to me so far to visit clubs, zone meetings and other conventions. So thanks, my friends, as we continue on the jour-ney, for being there to support me as an individual. Many of you have heard that my husband, PDG Jeff, is currently being evaluated for a

possible liver/kidney transplant. So many of you have offered prayers, love, food! And help if I ever need it. I may take you up on that!

Thanks again!

Lion Carol Snyder

The Service Journey is an approach to serving well. It can help clubs take on new causes, and serve in new and exciting ways. There are four

phases to the Service Journey: Learn, Discover, Act and Celebrate.

The Learn phase focuses on the value of increasing our awareness of the world around us—the more we learn, the more we’ll be pre-

pared to take action.

The Discover phase is where we process the things we’re learning and identify new opportunities that align with our passions and

strengths.

The Act phase is simple: as Lions, we serve. We put our learning and discovery into action. This phase represents the fulfillment of our

mission of service.

Last but certainly not least, the Celebrate phase is where we share our success through service reporting and telling our service stories

to the world.

Encourage 100% Member Participation Participation is key to our success! Inviting fellow members to make personal donations is one of the simplest and quickest ways you can

raise significant funds for LCIF and Campaign 100.

Become a 100/100 Club – 100% Member Participation of at Least US$100 Every Lion is asked to consider a minimum donation of US$100 per year to the campaign – or US$2 each week. Clubs in which 100% of

members heed this call receive special recognition as 100/100 Clubs.

Donations to Campaign 100 are eligible for Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF), Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship (PMJF), and Lions Share

credits. Donations also count toward new Campaign 100 recognition and ongoing LCIF recognition for clubs and Lions, such as 100% MJF,

100% PMJF, 100% Lions Share Participation, and per-member-average banner patches.

Austintown Lions Club Hears About Idora Park

It was a very nostalgic night for the Austintown Lions, and Lioness Clubs and special guests as guest speakers, Jim and Toni Amey, took their audience

down Memory Lane describing their love and collectibles of old Idora Park. Those who remembered Idora were in awe as the couple recreated the

legends of the amusement Park that burned to the ground in 1984. It recreated memories of the Past, as most rides were described in detail by not

only the speakers, but the audience as well. The Amey’s have created a museum about Idora in Canfield called The Idora Park Experience.

This was also a membership and guest night. Acting president Bob Whited presided over the meeting. There was much discussion of the Lions 5-K

Run in May.

Those interested in becoming an Austintown Lions member should contact Bob Whited at 330-792-7907 or [email protected].
