2016-2017 GOVERNOR’S FIRST FAMILY PROJECT
“TODAY’S READERS TOMORROW’S LEADERS”
Each year the Governor’s family chooses a project meaningful to them for the betterment of
our communities and asks all Kiwanis clubs in the District to help support this project in some
way. This year Bill and Peggy have chosen literacy as their project. Each club is being asked
to survey their community and determine a literacy related need they can help solve. They
should choose a project that is meaningful to them and within their means to complete. The
possibilities are endless, but please see Bill and Peggy’s list of 102 possible projects to get
your ideas flowing. Clubs are being asked to include their Service Leadership Program partici-
pants in the project with them to further strengthen the bonds of the Kiwanis family. The
success of this project will be measured in hours of literacy related service to our communi-
ties so please be sure to report your service on the Kiwanis monthly report and by sending
the below form to Governor Bill at Bill Flinta, 4182 Leewood Road, Stow, OH or e-mail it to
him at [email protected].
Often donations are made to the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation for the First Family Project at the
Governor’s official visit to Divisions and at other times throughout the year, these will gladly
be accepted this year. All proceeds received will be used to fund small grants back to Ohio
Kiwanis clubs to assist them with literacy related projects, or to fund other literacy related
projects within Ohio.
Your support of this project will improve literacy within Ohio and for our Ohio families. Thank
you for your support of this project. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to
Peggy Flinta at 330-801-6224 or at [email protected].

It’s a new year with new opportunities. And this year the Membership Committee (The For-
mula Team) wants to strengthen our existing clubs
Why are we doing this? It’s simple – Life happens. We lose members due to life changes – new jobs, moving, children, death. Without adding new members, our clubs grow weaker. And without Kiwanis members, our main purpose – service – is lost. This addition of new members is our life blood to continue the great legacy of service we have had over the last 100 years.
So how does it work?
This is a marathon of 26 miles, 385 yards. Each division is a team and each team has a goal to add new members to their existing clubs based on the division’s October 1st membership. You move about 1 mile down the track for each about 3.8% of your goal added as new mem-bers. All teams across the finish line will be recognized at Mid-Year 2018, since every team that completes the marathon by September 30th 2017 is a winner as their clubs will be strong-er and service greater.
The first three teams over the finish line will get prizes:
Gold - $250, Silver - $150 and Bronze: $50, all donated for children’s books to the local school, library or other group designated by the division to help Today’s Readers Be-come Tomorrow’s Leaders.
Every month, around the 4th, your Lt. Governor will receive an update on your division pro-
gress, so ask for a copy and see your progress.
The Runners are lined up – good luck this year!

serviceable citizenship.
