OHA’s Smiles Across America® (SAA) program

supports oral disease prevention services in school-

based and school-linked settings for children who are

unable to obtain routine dental care due to lack of

insurance, resources, transportation, or because of low

literacy or language barriers.

• Launchedinpartnershipwithpublicschoolsand

community health providers in 2004, SAA has given

over $1.5 million in grant support through 2009.

• SAAprovidesgrantfundingandtechnicalassistance

to treatment partners in one out of every four

states across the country, supporting services to an

estimated 250,000 children-and growing.

• TheSAAProductDonationProjectdistributesover

300,000 units of donated dental product annually,

reaching over 900 treatment partners since 1998.

• In2010,OHAwillmeetitscommitmenttoAmerica’s

Promise to seal 1,000,000 teeth!

Oral Health America is committed to improving

patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare delivery

services by providing a platform for medical and dental

health professionals to share knowledge and treatment

protocols for the growing number of systemic diseases

related to diseases of the mouth.

• OHA’syear-longeducationandcommunicationscampaigns

reach over 130,000 professionals in higher education,

industry and medical and dental practices.

• Credentialedforcontinuingeducation,ourDialogues

feature speakers who bring new clinical and behavioral

research and practices to light in forum and online settings.

• OrganizingpartnershaveincludedtheNewYorkAcademy

of Sciences and columbia University.

The Wisdom Tooth Project helps seniors and their care

providers understand the importance of oral health as a

part of lifelong health, leverages partnerships with senior

organizations, convenes transformational conversations

between science and industry, and utilizes communications

strategies as a vehicle for change.

• Approximately35millionAmericansare65yearsorolder.Thatnumberisexpectedtogrowto88 million by 2050.
