Fred Limp

Fred Limp, Director of the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the Univ. of Arkansas, was the first member of the GRASS community to contact David Schell. He was an original member of the GRASS Interagency Steering Committee and then of the OGF board.

Jerome Kreuser

In 1995, Jerome Kreuser at World Bank Headquarters authored a study that introduced us to a larger world community. He became an OGC Board member but soon had to leave because of cancer.

Andy Updegrove

Emil Horvath

Emil and other founding members of the Federal Geographic Data Committee – Dick Liston (SCS), Maury Nyquist (National Park Service), and Bill Goran (USACERL) were OGF and then OGC proponents.

Emil Horvath was an original member of the GRASS Interagency Steering Committee and the boards of the Open GRASS Foundation and the OGC. He was head of the GIS project at the Soil Conservation Service (SCS, now Natural Resources Conservation Service).

Sam Bacharach

Sam Bacharach was an active OGC Technical Committee member from the start. While at Intergraph, Sam negotiated adoption of the first released OGC standard at Cambridge University in 1997.

Sam served on OGC staff 2000-2009

He continues to participate actively in the OGC Technical Committee, now as the WISC representative.

Jim Farley

At the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the University of Arkansas, Jim Farley integrated GRASS with various software products. He was a key participant in meetings that led to the OGC Technical Committee.

Jim was a founding OGC staff member and later took a position with Oracle.

Charles Roswell

Through decades of standards work in the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and its predecessor organizations, and at NATO, Charles Roswell anticipated the need for OGC’s interoperability standards. He was a key player in making these standards a reality.

Charles helped forge successful relationships between OGC, ISO TC211 and ANSI/INCITS L1. He received the OGC’s first Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jeff Labonte, Terry Fisher and Geoconnections

Jeff Labonte, head of Geoconnections in Canada, was responsible for much OGC project activity in Canada.

Terry Fisher

An international standards veteran, Terry Fisher led Canada’s GeoConnections to use OGC as a resource to address Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) requirements. This led to the CGDI becoming the largest single implementation community for OGC standards.

Velu Sinha

• Before OGF and OGC, Velu worked with David Schell on a document management project whose "virtual bus” distributed architecture provided a model for geospatial interoperability, ultimately realized in OGC. Velu is now a partner at Bain & Company and an OGC Director.

Bob King

Bob King, as VP at Camber Corp., was an OGC founder. Camber provided offices for OGC in Cambridge MA for 2 years, plus other resources. Camber helped arrange OGC’s NASA CRADA, which made the OGC’s first 3 years possible.

Bob Moses and PCI

Bob Moses, president of PCI Geomatics, understood the OGC vision from the beginning. He remained on the Board until his death in 2010.

Olaf Ostenson of ISO TC/211 helped OGC build a productive and lasting relationship with ISO. ISO co-branding has been been very important.

Greg Smith, Irv Buck and the NGA

Greg Smith was on the OGF board before joining the US National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), where he helped advance OGC.

The NGA (while still NIMA) under Irv Buck worked with the OGC to create the "Geospatial IPT”. While at NGA, Mark Reichardt helped with this.

The IPT effort helped the OGC conceptualize and implement the Interoperability Program, keystone of OGC's success.

James Clapper, Director of NGA 2001-2006 and now Director of National Intelligence, was a strong OGC advocate.

Lockheed Martin joined the OGC in 1995. Larry Fritz, then Senior Staff Scientist at Lockheed and Secretary General of ISPRS, joined OGC's Board. Steve Van Scoyk was principal contact, Jim Stephens key technical contributor. Lockheed Martin received OGC’s Distinguished Member Award in 2013.

Aki Yamaura was a division manager in Mitsubishi, in charge of their space imaging operations. He brought Mitsubishi in at Principal Membership, opening the door to the industrial and research community in Japan. His advice was critical.
