Welcome to the UK Pavilion at OTC 2016

The EIC is delighted to be exhibiting at OTC again this year, together with 52 specialist UK companies whose expertise and innovation is so vital to the global energy industries.

This event is such a notable date in the diary for British businesses because we recognise the continuing importance of Houston as the world’s energy capital. As well as being a hub for engineering and procurement activity, it acts as both a decision maker and a vital cog in the international project process.

When it comes to capability in oil and gas, whether onshore or in challenging areas like the North Sea, the UK is a major player. We

have the know-how. We address global issues. We pride ourselves on excellence. What’s more, much of this UK experience has been put to good use in the Houston Gulf Coast region, which is active despite current market conditions. Shell’s Appomattox semi-sub development is in the pipeline, BP’s Mad Dog 2 project is expected to move forward even with a push-back on bidding, and Hess’ Stampede TLP is in full swing.

In fact Houston is at the heart of many global projects – from the TengizChevroil crude storage capacity project in Kazakhstan, of which Bechtel and Wood Group Mustang are a part; to Anadarko’s Mozambique LNG project working with KBR and CB&I; through to Technip’s FEED contract for the Liuhua fields in the South China Sea.

Houston’s engineering role also flows into several different sectors. For example, Chevron’s Wheatstone is engaged in LNG activity in Australia while the Delfin FLNG in the Gulf of Mexico is one of several projects that Mexico’s Energy Market Reform is creating. In terms of power, Houston-headquartered Bechtel is also solidifying its strong position in this sector.

More than two decades ago, the EIC set up offices in Houston to help our members take advantage of business opportunities in the region. Over the years, we have refined our offering to meet member needs throughout their export journey, whether providing guidance on entering the market; hot desks for initial visits; virtual office services to help maintain a regional presence; or serviced offices for establishing a Houston base.

Most importantly, it’s the personal service we offer that our members find really beneficial. Our team make it their business to keep abreast of local markets and projects so they can provide the most up to date insight. We also advise on essentials such as how to approach the market, how to identify key energy players and to make new contacts.

Located in Houston’s energy corridor, our US office helps to bridge the North & Central America energy industries and gives our members a competitive advantage in a demanding marketplace.

In order to build on our ongoing commitment to this market and provide an improved service to our members, we recently moved to new premises. Our upgraded office facilities will allow us to further support UK companies to do business locally.

We design, build and install CALM Buoys, related loading terminals and small turrets for FPSO’s. Our buoys can also replace old end-of-life units, being compatible with the standard CALM buoy design. Further, we offer support to terminal operators through the supply of spares, engineering and consultancy services.

In 2015 we delivered five new buoys, two for Waha Oil, Libya and three for PDO, Oman. All are suitable for 350,000 DWT tankers and both six and eight leg mooring patterns. Our latest project, for GALP Portugal, is to disconnect, dry-dock and reconnect their CALM buoy plus chains and subsea PLEM valves replacement.
