A Note from the Vice President

Rich Santucci

As many of you may have heard.....I've been recuperating from a total knee replacement. My activities have been limited so while catching up on some reading I came across this and thought...... I can relate to this especially now.

ENJOY!!!!

TRADE IN TIME

If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it.

My fenders are too wide to be considered stylish. They were once as sleek as a little MG :now they look more like an older Oldsmobile.

My seat cushions have split open at the seams and are sagging. Seat belts"! I gave up all belts when Krispy Creme opened a shop in my neighborhood. Air bags! Forget it. The only bags I have now are under my eyes ...not counting the saddlebags of course.

My headlights are out of focus and my traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide, skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins and my fuel burns inefficiently.

But here is the worst of it. Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!!!!

Letter from the President

Chuck Schiel

As I am writing this letter to all of you on Monday, February 12, there are only 36 days remaining until the First Day of Spring!! Now that’s a great reason for some type of celebration! It seems like this winter has crawled along at a snail’s pace, and whenever I go into my garage and look at my “sleeping” Oldsmobile’s (and my unconscious Cadillac), it makes me yearn for the Spring thaw even more. Fear not … it won’t be long!

We have a lot of GMO/Oldsmobile fun to look forward to this year … great cars, great friends, great weather – amen! Our next get-together will be our Member’s Meeting at The Larz Anderson Auto Museum on Sunday afternoon, March 18 at 4:00 pm. The March meeting at Larz Anderson is always fun, and it will be a great opportunity for us to discuss our goals for the upcoming 2018 car show season – hope to see you all there.

In April, your GMO Board of Directors will be meeting to select the 2018 Stavros Cup Award winner to be announced at the 2018 Spring Dust-Off Show – the Stavros Cup, named after our late, great President Doug Stavros, is awarded annually to a GMO member selected by the Board of Directors in recognition of their contributions to the Club during the previous year, or for their positive impact on the Club over a longer period of time. Sunday, May 20 is the date for our 2018 Annual Spring

Dust-Off Show at Kimball Farm in Lancaster, MA (weather permitting) – this show is open to all Oldsmobile’s (GMO members and non-members are encouraged to attend). If the Show is postponed due to bad weather on May 20, the “rain date” for the Show will be Sunday, June 3. Let’s make this year’s Dust-Off Show our biggest and best ever! After the Dust-Off, there are too many great show events to document them all here – the following is just a sampling of options for each month during the summer. The actual dates have yet to be announced, but as soon as they are, we will publish this information:

May – Mass Bay Community College Show Ashland, MA June – Medfield on the Charles Show Medfield, MA June – Mid-State Antique Auto Club Show Fitchburg, MA July – BSAAC Endicott Show Dedham, MA July – Codman Estate Show Lincoln, MA July – Hebert’s Candy Mansion Show Shrewsbury, MA July – American Car Say Show at The Larz Anderson Auto Museum - Brookline, MA August – Mass Cruiser’s Show Wrentham, MA August – LaSallette Shrine Show Attleboro, MA September – Modifier’s Car Show Wellesley, MA September – New England Oldsmobile Club Show – Southington, CT September – Milford Lion’s Club Show Milford, MA September – Dudley Lion’s Club Show Webster, MA September – Kidde Fenwal Show Ashland, MA October – Concord Lion’s Club Show Concord, MA October – Orange Fall Festival Show Orange, MA October – Extinct Car Day Show at The Larz Anderson Auto Museum – Brookline, MA So, there you have it – lots of opportunities to get those classic Oldsmobile’s “on the road” for everyone to see and admire this Summer and Fall. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon … but until then … Rocketing Forward!
