throw into the oblivion its historical heritage and the
work of its ancestors'.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan
Jama Masjid is located in the central wing of present
Sir Syed Hall along with other heritage marvels like
Strachey Hall, Nizam Museum & Lytton Library.
Justice Mahmood
laid the foundation
stone of Jama
Masjid in 1879.
Artisan were called
from Delhi &
Ajmer for stone
carving and floral
paintings & designs.
The Mosque was
declared open on
1 February 1915.
The fluted minarets, the onion shaped domes, the
majestic central pishtaq with calligraphic verses from
Holy Quran inlayed in white marble-
enhances the beauty of Jama Masjid.
Single piece screens (Jali) carved in sandstone
enhancing the aesthetics of exterior & interior in the
mosque.
Combination of Arches ranging from multi-
foil, semicircular, segmental, tri-foil, flat, jack
arch and four centered arches augmenting the
beauty of this heritage monument.
Stone carving & cladding, stone inlay of calligraphic
inscriptions are the elements that have been used for
the ornamentation of the façade of mosque.
Ornamental Ceiling, araish plaster with floral design,
calligraphy, gold imitation of floral patterns are
increasing the beauty of the interiors in the mosque.
But with the passage of time this incredible architectural
marvel is getting deteriorated.
The age, weathering and negligence have become the
major source of deterioration. Another problem
associated with this heritage building is the previous
interventions which is due to the lack of knowledge
about the values of heritage.
This resulted in providing the new services in an
improper manner and thereby destroying the aesthetics
and beauty of this incredible building.
This Heritage mosque is very much sound in its
structural stability and it can still withstand for
centuries, the only thing it requires is a regular
maintenance.
