Affermatasi sulla scena internazionale con il gruppo post-punk dei Sugarcu-bes, da 22 anni la cantante islandese Björk Guömundsdóttir, sviluppa la sua personale ricerca artistica dentro e fuo-ri i confini della musica, sfruttando le proprie rimarchevoli doti vocali, com-ponendo e interpretando con fluida ed eclettica disinvoltura brani che spaziano dal folk all’elettronica, dal jazz al trip hop, dalla classica al pop, in una origi-nale compenetrazione di generi e stili. La sua discografia, da ‘Debut’ (1993) a ‘Vulnicura’ (2015), ne testimonia l’inaf-ferrabile talento. Nel tempo, Björk è di-venuta una mutante icona della nostra ‘modernità liquida’, ritratta da fotografi quali Araki, Nan Goldin, Juergen Teller, Stéphane Sédnaoui, Inez van Lamsweer-de e Vinoodh Matadin, vestita da stilisti del calibro di Alexander McQueen, Hus-sein Chalayan, Iris van Herpen o Maiko Takeda, celebrata e trasfigurata nei vi-deoclip firmati da Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham e Spike Jonze, indimenti-cabile protagonista del film ‘Dancer in the Dark’ di Lars von Trier. Alla creatività multiforme di questo vivace personag-gio ‘transmediale’ è dedicata la mostra ‘Björk’, allestita al MoMA di New York. Concepita e curata da Klaus Biesenbach in stretta collaborazione con l’artista, l’esposizione ne ripercorre la folgorante carriera, illustrandone, in una immersiva esperienza polisensoriale, l’apporto in-novativo, attraverso musica, immagini, video, oggetti, costumi e strumenti. Tra questi, ‘Black Lake’, inedita installazione videomusicale realizzata con il regista Andrew Thomas Huang. (F.M.)
Fotografo topografico, ritrattista di ce-lebrità e paesaggi industriali, ma anche di coloro che ne animavano umilmente la scena – operai metallurgici e tessili, carpentieri, saldatori –, Emil Otto Hoppé (1878-1972), tedesco di nascita e in-glese d’adozione, può essere senz’altro paragonato, in quanto a talento e sen-sibilità espressiva, ad altri grandi maestri della sua epoca, come Alfred Stieglitz, Walker Evans o August Sander. Ma ciò che lo distingue dai colleghi, e lo rende unico, è la capacità di documentare con scrupolo e dovizia di dettagli, l’avvento della seconda rivoluzione industriale, illustrandone suggestivamente luoghi, macchinari, produzioni, rampanti capita-ni d’industria e anonimi manovali colti in varie parti del pianeta. Nell’arco di oltre vent’anni, tra il 1912 e il 1937, egli re-alizza così l’avvincente resoconto di una civiltà in profonda trasformazione, dai centri alle periferie di un mondo votato ad una crescita inesauribile. La mostra “Emil Otto Hoppé: Il Segreto svelato”, curata da Urs Stahel e in svolgimento al MAST di Bologna, ne presenta in an-teprima mondiale 200 scatti esemplari finora celati in un archivio fotografico londinese, cui l’autore aveva ceduto i diritti di riproduzione. Devised and supervised by Klaus Biesenbach in close collaboration with the artist herself, the exhibition examines the artist’s stunning career, illustrating the innovative aspects of her persona through a multi-sensory full-immersion experience with music, images, videos, items, costumes and instruments. Ottavio e Rosita Missoni: un lungo e fe-condo sodalizio, creativo e imprendito-riale oltreché coniugale, capace di dare vita ad uno dei marchi di spicco della moda e del tessile made in Italy. Ai due illustri concittadini, il MA*GA di Galla-rate dedica la mostra “Missoni, l’Arte, il Colore”, curata da Luciano Caramel ed Emma Zanella, che ne mette in luce l’o-riginale ricerca, svolta intorno ai temi del disegno e del colore, del segno e della forma, della materia e della texture, in-dividuandone radici e influenze nell’al-veo delle avanguardie del Novecento. Introdotta dalla videoinstallazione ‘Casa di Moda’, in cui l’artista turco Ali Kazma rende omaggio all’impronta distintiva dei Missoni, capaci di valorizzare il saper fare artigianale caratteristico del territorio in una dimensione di assoluta modernità, l’esposizione ne evidenzia il background culturale attraverso una selezione di ope-re pittoriche che spazia da Giacomo Balla a Sonia e Robert Delaunay, da Fortunato Depero a Wassily Kandinsky, da Paul Klee a Piet Mondrian, fino a Lucio Fontana e a Bruno Munari. The story of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni: a long, successful union, a creative and entrepreneurial partnership, and their marriage – this combination give rise to one of the leading brands in the Made in Italy fashion and textile industries. This highly-regarded Italian couple has been recognized by an exhibition ‘Missoni, l’Arte, il Colore’ (Missoni, Art, Color) organized by Luciano Caramel and Emma Zanella and hosted in MA*GA in Gallarate (VA) in the North of Italy. The event highlights the Mis-soni team’s research into design and color, patterns and shapes, materials and textures, and identifies the roots and influences from the melting pot of Twentieth-century avant-garde design. The exhibition opens with the video installation ‘Casa di Moda’ (Fashion House), in which the Turkish artist Ali Kazma pays tribute to the distinctive traits of the Missoni creativity, a design twist that exalted the artisan know-how characteristic of the territory in a totally mo-dern dimension. The exhibition highlights the cultural background to this evolution through a selection of pictorial works that range from Giacomo Balla to Sonia and Robert Delaunay, from Fortunato Depero to Wassily Kandinsky, from Paul Klee to Piet Mondrian to Lucio Fontana and Bruno Munari. Art and color of the Maestros shim-mer magically in the maison’s most famous creations, presented in an installation that was specifically produced by Missoni for this exhibition. Thanks to his talent and expressive sensitivity, Emil Otto Hoppé (1878-1972), German by birth and British by adoption, can certainly be compared to the great Maestri of his period – such as Alfred Stieglitz, Walker Evans or August Sander. However, there is something that distinguishes him from his peers and places him in a unique position – and that was his ability to painstakingly and scrupulously document the advent of the second industrial revolution. He suggestively illustrated the places, the machinery, the production, the ambitious leaders of industry and the anonymous laborers in various places across the world. In more than 20 years, between 1912 and 1937, he documented a civilization that was undergoing major transformation; he
focused on everything from the centers to the suburbs of a universe oriented to never-ending growth. The exhibition “Emil Otto Hoppé: Il Segreto svelato”, organized by Urs Stahel and currently hosted in MAST, Bologna, presents a world preview of 200 exemplary photo-graphs that were hidden until now in a photographic archive in London: The ar-tist had already given his permission for reproduction. The secrets of these works have now been revealed: they would otherwise have been lost and forgotten but now the public can delight in the historical-documental value and the unquestionable artistic importance of this collection. LEONARDO 1452-1519 LABORATORIO CERAMICS OF ITALY
Si tratta della più grande esposizione de-dicata a Leonardo mai ideata in Italia. La mostra è promossa dal Comune di Milano, il progetto è prodotto, nel quadro di una partnership che prosegue da oltre quindici anni, da Palazzo Reale e Skira ed è curata da Pietro C. Marani e Maria Teresa Fiorio, tra gli storici dell’arte più importanti per gli studi sul grande genio del Rinascimen-to. L’esposizione presenta una visione di Leonardo trasversale su tutta l’opera del poliedrico personaggio, considerato come artista e scienziato attraverso alcuni temi centrali individuati dai curatori: il disegno, fondamentale nell’opera di Leonardo; il continuo paragone tra le arti: disegno, pit-tura, scultura; il confronto con l’antico; la novità assoluta dei moti dell’animo; il suo tendere verso progetti utopistici, veri e pro-pri sogni, come poter volare o camminare sull’acqua per cui è allestita in mostra una apposita sezione; l’automazione meccani-ca e così via, temi che lo hanno reso un al-fiere dell’unità del sapere, con l’intrecciarsi continuo nella sua opera di scienze e arti. La ceramica italiana sarà presente a Milano durante Expo 2015, la grande iniziativa internazionale che si svolge da maggio ad ottobre sul tema “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la vita”, con una mostra promossa da Confindustria Cera-mica - l’associazione dell’industria cera-mica italiana - ed organizzata da Edi.Cer. SpA dal titolo “Laboratorio Ceramics of Italy”. La mostra verrà allestita presso la Triennale di Milano, nell’area dell’Implu-vium – uno spazio di 190 mq. posto al primo piano, dall’1 al 10 maggio 2015. Il concept della mostra Ceramics of Italy (affidato a Blumerandfriends e con la curatela di Aldo Colonetti) vuole unire – in uno spazio a metà fra cucina e la-boratorio ‘cibo e ceramica’ illustrando, in maniera suggestiva, evocativa ed anche interattiva come i gesti legati all’alimen-tazione siano da sempre estremamente connessi alla ceramica, materia e luogo in cui il cibo viene cotto e anche fruito. Tecnicamente, tre banconi piastrellati sa-ranno le dispense per stoviglierie e con-tenitori ceramici di alimenti (spezie, se-menti, farine, polveri di caffè, cacao, riso etc. legati ai temi dei Cluster di Expo). Il pubblico, coinvolto durante i 10 giorni di apertura della mostra, potrà comporre, utilizzando piatti di ceramica vibranti su supporti magnetici, quadri di colore, ot-tenuti con i diversi ingredienti alimenta-ri, in continua evoluzione e proiettati in tempo reale sulle pareti dell’Impluvium e in rete, attraverso i social networks. La scelta della location non è casuale: tutti gli spazi espositivi della Triennale saranno occupati dalla mostra culturale ufficiale di Expo “Art & Food”, curata da Germano Celant e con l’allestimento dello Studio Italo Rota. All’interno dello spazio Ceramics of Italy è previsto un programma di eventi durante i 10 giorni di apertura: dopo l’inaugurazione uffi-ciale il 30 aprile, lo spazio espositivo si trasformerà in un vero e proprio labora-torio nel quale tutto sarà realizzato con prodotti industriali delle aziende italiane, che saranno il terreno di 10 laboratori della cucina. The format of the exhibition was defined and drafted by representatives of the Milan’s Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and the publisher, Skira. It presents a transversal vision of Leonardo, and includes all aspects of the works of this polyhedral character, presented as an artist and a scientist through some of the core themes identified by the exhibition’s curators: design – an essential feature in Leo-nardo’s work; the constant comparison between the art disciplines of design, painting and sculpture; the references to antiquities; the undeniably innovative interpretations regarding the drivers of the soul; his tendencies to immortalize utopic projects, his unimaginable and visionary dreams of flying or walking on water – these have been presented in a specific section; mechanical automation and the like, topics that defined him as a forerunner of knowledge, with the constant entanglement of science and art in his works.Pietro C. Thanks to an exhibition “Laborato-rio Ceramics of Italy” promoted by Confindustria Ceramica, the trade association for Italian ceramics industry, and organized by the company,Edi.Cer. SpA, Italian ceramics will be suitably represented in Milan during the forthcoming Expo 2015; this major international initiative – the Expo - will be hosted in the city between May and October with the core theme of “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la vita”, (Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life). The Triennale of Milan will host the ce-ramics exhibition between May 1st and 10th 2015 in the Impluvium; this area is located on the first floor of the building and covers 190 sq.m of floorspace. The concept for the exhibition Ceramics of Italy (commissioned to Blumerandfrien-ds and supervised by Aldo Colonetti) wishes to unite ‘food and ceramics’ in a facility that can be described as being halfway between a kitchen and a workshop. It will suggestively, evoca-tively and even interactively illustrate how activities and gestures associated with food have always been linked to ceramics, a material and a place where food is cooked and consumed. From a technical point of view, three tiled counters will act as the storage units for ceramic crockery and food containers (spices, seeds, flour, ground coffee, cocoa powder, rice etc. associated with the Expo’s Cluster themes). During the ten days of the exhibition, members of the public will be able to create colorful pictures using vibrant ceramic plates on magnetic supports. Using the

PRITZKER ARCHITECTURE PRIZEUn premio al suo lavoro e alla sua vita, alla sua umiltà e all’utopia di un archi-tetto che non ha mai smesso di credere che l’architettura può creare un mondo migliore per tutti. Il 10 marzo 2015 è sta-ta annunciata l’assegnazione del Pritzker Architecture Prize 2015 a Frei Otto.Tom Pritzker ha annunciato: “La giuria ha valutato la carriera di Frei Otto come un modello per generazioni di architetti, la cui influenza continuerà a farsi sentire. La notizia della sua morte è molto triste, senza precedenti nella storia del pre-mio. Siamo grati che la giuria gli abbia assegnato il premio mentre era in vita. Fortunatamente, dopo la decisione del-la giuria, i rappresentanti del premio si sono recati a casa di Otto e sono stati in grado di condividere la notizia con lui. Alla cerimonia di premiazione a Miami il 15 maggio si celebrerà la sua vita e il suo lavoro senza tempo.” Quando il direttore esecutivo del premio è andato a casa di Otto a Warmbronn, in Germania, Otto ha commentato con que-ste toccanti parole: “Sono felice di riceve-re questo premio e ringrazio la giuria e la famiglia Pritzker. Non ho mai fatto nulla per ottenere questo premio. Il mio obietti-vo architettonico è stato quello di proget-tare nuovi tipi di edifici per aiutare i più poveri, in particolare in seguito a calamità naturali e catastrofi. Cosa potevo chiede-re di più oltre a questo premio? Userò il tempo che mi resta per continuare a fare quello che ho fatto, aiutare l’umanità. Avete qui un uomo felice.” In contrasto con l’architettura pesante fatta di colonne, pietra e muratura armata dai nazionalsocialisti della Germania in cui è cresciuto, il lavoro di Otto era legge-ro, aperto alla natura e alla luce naturale, a basso costo, energeticamente efficiente, e talvolta progettato per essere tempo-raneo. Tra le sue opere più conosciute la copertura per i principali impianti sportivi del Parco Olimpico di Monaco di Baviera per le Olimpiadi Estive del 1972 (con Beh-nisch + Partner e altri), il padiglione te-desco del 1967 all’Esposizione Universale Internazionale (Expo 67), il Padiglione del Giappone a Expo 2000 di Hannover, in Germania (con Shigeru Ban) e una serie di strutture a tenda per le Esposizioni fe-derali tedesche nel 1950 e le realizzazioni in Medio Oriente. On March 10th 2015, it was announced that Frei Otto had been awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize 2015 for his work and his life, for his humility and his intrinsic utopia as an architect who never stopped believing that archi-tecture can create a better world for everyone.In a statement, Tom Pritzker announced that “The jury deemed Frei Otto’s career to be a model for generations of new architects and his influence will continue for years to come. The news of his death was accompanied by feeling of grief that was unprecedented in the history of the prize. We are delighted that the jury awarded this prize to him while he was still alive. Luckily, fol-lowing the decision, the representatives of the prize traveled to his home and were able to share the joyful news with him. The presentation ceremony that will take place in Miami later this year, on May 15th, to celebrate his life and his timeless inventiveness.”When the executive director of the prize arrived at Otto’s home in Warmbronn,

Germany, Otto emotionally told him: “I am delighted to receive this prize and I would like to thank the jury and the Pritzker family. I wasn’t ever aiming to do anything special for this Prize. My architectonic orientation was to design new types of buildings to help the poorer members of society, particularly the destitute following natural disasters and calamities. I could not ask for more than to be recognized with this award. I will use the time I have left to continue doing what I have always strived to do – help humanity. You see before you a very happy man.” As a contrast to the heavy architecture with columns, stone and reinforced masonry preferred
by the National Socialists of Germany where he grew-up, his work was light and airy, open to nature and natural light, low cost, energetically efficient and sometimes designed specifically as temporary structures. His more famous works include the roof for the main sports arenas of the Olympic Park in Munich for the 1972 Summer Olympics (with Behnisch + Partner and others), the Germany Pavilion constructed in 1967 for the Universal Expo 67, the Japan Pavilion for Expo 2000 hosted in Hannover, Germany (with Shigeru Ban), a series of drape-like structures for the West Germany Expositions in 1950 and his projects in the Middle East. PREMIOS CERAMICA ASCER Un materiale reinterpretato con molteplici tessiture di superficie, vibrazione di luce e superfici specchianti. La vera protagonista del Premios Ceramica di Ascer, XIII edizio-ne è stata sicuramente la ceramica nelle sue infinite applicazioni. Durante la fiera Cevisama 2015 che si è tenuta a Valen-cia sono stati proclamati i vincitori: una casa a Lisbona con una originale facciata in ceramica premiata nella categoria di Architettura, il recupero del chiostro del Palau-Castell di Betxí vincitore nella cate-goria Interior Design e per la categoria di Tesi di Laurea in Architettura, il progetto ‘Alfama 2.0’ di María González Arangu-ren (ETSAM). La giuria era formata dagli architetti: Emilio Tuñón, Cino Zucchi, José Mª Sánchez, Martha Thorne, Anupama Kundoo, Fernando Márquez Cecilia e Ramón Monfort.Per quanto riguarda la categoria Archi-tettura troviamo ‘Casa en Príncipe’ del-lo studio CAMARIM Arquitectos (Vasco Correia e Patricia Sousa), la giuria ha voluto porre l’accento su “la brillante interpretazione nell’uso della ceramica nel centro storico di Lisbona. L’edificio residenziale sviluppato su cinque piani, si presenta verso la strada principale con una cortina ceramica tradizionale rein-terpretata con molteplici tessiture di su-perficie. Per la categoria Interior Design il ‘Recupero del chiostro del Palau-Castell di Betxí’ dello studio El Fabricante de Espheras. È stata apprezzata la trasfor-mazione concettuale dello spazio inter-no del chiostro mediante l’inserimento di una grande superficie specchiante che “ricostruisce virtualmente” la metà del chiostro rinascimentale andato perduto. Primo premio nella categoria PFC al progetto ‘Alfama 2.0’ di María González Aranguren di ETSAM. La giuria ha valu-tato molto positivamente il progetto per la riqualificazione del quartiere Alfama a Lisbona, per l’alta qualità della proposta sia in termini urbanistici che architettoni-ci. Il progetto si connota per la notevole interpretazione costruttiva delle facciate tradizionali in ceramica di Lisbona. The real protagonist for the Premios Ceramica Ascer, 13th edition, was unquestionably ceramics in all of its infinite applications. The winners were announced during the Cevisama exhibition in 2015, hosted in Valencia: a home in Lisbon with an original ceramic façade that won the Architecture category, the reclaim of the COURTYARD of the Palau-Castell in Betxí winner of the Interior Design category; the category ‘Degree in Architecture Dissertation’ was won by the project ‘Alfama 2.0’ by María González Aranguren (ETSAM). Members of the jury were: Emilio Tuñón, Cino
Zucchi, José Mª Sánchez, Martha Thorne, Anupama Kundoo, Fernando Márquez Cecilia and Ramón Monfort.In reference to the Architecture category and the ‘Casa en Príncipe’ created by studio CAMARIM Arquitectos (Vasco Correia and Patricia Sousa),the jury emphasized the ‘brilliant interpretation in the use of ceramics in the historical center of Lisbon. This is a 5-storey resi-dential building and faces onto the main street with a small traditional courtyard reinterpreted with multiple surface textu-res. For the Interior Design category, the ‘Recovery of the cloisters of the Palau-Castell in Betxí’ by studio El Fabricante de Espheras. The jury voiced their admi-ration for the conceptual transformation
of the interiors of the cloisters with the insertion of a large mirrored surface that ‘virtually rebuilds’ the half of the cloisters that has been lost over the years.The first prize in the PFC category was awarded to the project ‘Alfama 2.0’ by María González Aranguren of ETSAM. The jury gave very positive reviews for the requalification project of the Alfama district in Lisbon, thanks to the high quality of the design both in urban and architectonic terms. The project stands-out for the considera-ble construction interpretation of the traditional Lisbon ceramic facades. Un annuario curato da Luis Fernández-Galiano con i progetti architettonici più interessanti realizzati in Spagna nonostan-te la non facile situazione economica. Per alcuni progetti paralizzati, molti sono stati portati avanti. Illustrate nel libro 24 ope-re realizzate durante l’ultimo anno come il CaixaForum di Carme Pinos o il nuovo Centro Congresso Vegas Altas di Pancorbo, Chacón, De Villar e Martin Robles, alcuni interventi su edifici esistenti come il Museo de Bellas Arts Oviedo di Francisco Manga-do, il centro culturale di Rafael De La Hoz a Madrid, l’estensione del Giardino botanico di Tenerife dei AMP, un centro di cura nei pressi di Barcellona di Josep Miàs, l’espan-sione di una scuola a Barcellona dei Pich. Inoltre, alcuni progetti educativi, come l’asilo nido dei Taller Básico de Arquitec-tura, o la facoltà di Belle Arti di Tenerife dei GPY arquitectos quattro progetti di residenze di Guillermo Vázquez Con-suegra, Solid arquitectura/Soto Maroto, Pereda Pérez Arquitectos e Alfredo Payá. Luis Fernández-Galiano analizza inoltre i principali eventi architettonici, rivedendo le questioni più importanti sulla scena in-ternazionale. (P.M.)

Il volume a cura di Ascer riunisce 31 progetti nazionali e internazionali che includono tra i tanti il lungomare della Playa Poniente di Be-nidorm (Carlos Ferrater e Xavier Martí), il Palacio de Congresos Expo Aragon (Nieto e Sobejano), il Central Saint Gi-les (Renzo Piano), il Museo Brandhorst (Sauerbruch Hutton) e un edificio per uf-fici a Valencia (Ruiz-Larrea & Associates). Il volume contiene anche progetti di in-terior e articoli di approfondimento degli architetti tedeschi Hans Drexler, Vicente Sarrablo e Victor Echarri che parlano del-la ceramica come materiale prezioso per l’edilizia sostenibile. Il libro è pubblicato in spagnolo e in inglese, ed è presente in tutte le librerie specializzate. (P.M.)
Il libro della casa editrice Skira illustra il progetto di riqualificazione di un’area industriale dismessa, progettato dall’ar-chitetto milanese di adozione Giuseppe Tortato (autore del libro) incaricato da Realstep property management, svilup-patore specializzato nella rigenerazione di aree industriali milanesi.La Forgiatura, per quasi un secolo la più grande fucina della città, che a partire dalla fine dell’Ottocento ha lavorato componenti in acciaio speciale esportati in tutto il mondo, si propone oggi come modello di rigenerazione urbana aperto alla città, in cui il recupero della me-moria storica si sposa con innovazione tecnologica, sostenibilità ambientale e benessere di chi è tornato a ripopolare gli antichi spazi ristrutturati. I diversi edifici che compongono La Forgiatura sono caratterizzati da un’eterogeneità di soluzioni progettuali che nascono dal-la volontà di fondere, in maniera quasi sartoriale, antiche strutture industriali e nuove costruzioni altamente tecnologi-che. Il verde, invece, funge da elemento unificatore, il verde interviene permet-tendo un rapporto sensoriale esclusivo: patii, grandi altezze, luce naturale, le antiche e le nuove strutture. Un verde ‘architettonico’, spigoloso, ora giardino in pendenza a insinuarsi fra gli ex ca-pannoni della Meccanica, ora copertura della collina Raimondi, pensata per far fluttuare il nuovo edificio e sorprendere con prospettive inedite. Il libro è per-tanto testimonianza tangibile del filo conduttore che caratterizza l’approccio progettuale dell’architetto Tortato, co-niugare la dimensione sperimentale e la sensibilità ambientale con la concretezza professionale: spazi dall’elevato confort racchiusi in architetture raffinate. A collection of projects with ceramic as the common denominator. The book was edited by Ascer and groups together 31 Italian and international projects, including the promenade at the seafront of Playa Poniente in Beni-dorm (Carlos Ferrater and Xavier Martí), the Palacio de Congresos Expo Aragon (Nieto and Sobejano), the Central Saint Giles (Renzo Piano), the Brandhorst Museum (Sauerbruch Hutton) and an office building in Valencia (Ruiz-Larrea & Associates). The book also contains interior design projects and detailed articles by German architects Hans Drexler, Vicente Sarrablo and Victor Echarri who describe ceramic as an invaluable precious material for sustainable building construction. The book has been published in Spanish and in English, and is available through specialist book stores. (P.M.)

The book published by Skira illustrates the redevelopment of an abandoned industrial area, designed by Giuseppe Tortato, a Milan-based architect (and the book’s author) contracted by Real-step property management, a developer specialized in the regeneration of Milanese industrial areas. For almost a century, La Forgiatura was the city’s largest metalworks. Starting from the late 19th-century, it processed components in special qualities of steel that were exported around the world. Today, it is a model of urban regenera-tion that embraces the city. Reclaiming history joins technological innovation, environmental sustainability and well-ness for the people who have returned to breathe life into these ancient re-structured spaces. The various buildings of La Forgiatura are characterized by a range of different design solutions, ai-med at combining the ancient industrial facilities with highly-technological new builds. The parks and gardens act as the joining elements and creates an exclu-sive sensory relationship: green patios, enormous heights, natural light, old and new structures. Sharp, ‘architectonic’ vegetation transforms into sloping gar-dens that slide between the old hangars of The Meccanica, or the mantle of the Raimondi Hill, designed to ‘float’ the new building and surprise observers with unusual views. The book is a tangible witness to a common thread that characterizes the design approach developed by Architect Tortato – namely to enhance the experimental dimension and the environmental sensitivity with professional vision: the results are spaces with high standards of comfort enclosed in elegant architecture. A yearbook compiled by Luis Fernández-Galiano contains information on the most interesting architectonic projects created in Spain over the last year, despite the difficult economic situation. Some projects have been paralyzed yet many others have been carried forward. The book illustra-tes 24 projects completed over the last year - such as the CaixaForum by Carme Pinos or the new Congress Center Vegas Atlas by Pancorbo, Chacón, De Villar and Martin Robles; some projects involved
existing buildings such as the Museo de Bellas Arts Oviedo by Francisco Mangado, the cultural center by Rafael De La Hoz in Madrid, the extension of the Botanic Gardens in Tenerife by AMP architects, a health facility complex close to Barcelona by Josep Miàs, the extension of a school in Barcelona by Pich. These have been joined by educational projects, such as childcare centers by the architects of Taller Básico de Arquitectura, or the Faculty of Fine Art in Tenerife by the creatives of GPY arquitectos, four residential projects by Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, Solid arquitectura / Soto Maroto, Pereda Pérez Arquitectos and Alfredo PayáLuis Fernández-Galiano also analyzes the main architectonic events, and reviews the most important design questions that emerged on the international scenario over the year.
