June 1 - Parish Family Day
June 15 – Father’s Day
June 22 – St. Stephen’s Cemetery presentation plus Parish General Meeting
June 8 – 14 – Rev. Father Nicholas is on holidays
August 22 (Friday) 11:00 A.M. – Unveiling of Internment Plaque at our parish
TIME CHANGE – Divine Liturgy begins at 9:30 A.M. on June 1, 2014
Mother’s Day –Mother’s Day is a holiday honouring motherhood that is observed in different
forms throughout the world. Many people give gifts, cards, flowers, candy, a meal in a
restaurant or other treats to their mother and mother figures, including grandmothers, great-
grandmothers, stepmothers and foster mothers. Remember the real love from a mother comes
with no charge. Wishing all mothers a healthy, happy Mother’s Day! May God Bless YOU all!
Farewell Fellowship – Join Andy and Karen Feniuk at the Farewell fellowship. They are moving
to Okanagan Falls, British Columbia in June.
Parish Family Day – Please remember to sign the sheets hung on the cupboard in the parish
kitchen as to the fabulous dish you will share with the rest of us. I’m sure it will taste awesome.
Coffee, tea and juice will be provided by the parish. Details were provided in the April
Newsletter.
Father’s Day – Father’s Day is an occasion to celebrate the contributions that your father has
made in your life. Many people send in or give cards or gifts to their fathers. Father figures can
include fathers, stepfathers, father-in-laws, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and even other
male relatives. Wishing all fathers a happy, healthy Father’s Day! May God Bless You!
Get Well Wishes are extended to Nick Kutash, Mack Skoreyko, Ksenia Steciuk, Lloyd Holden,
Alex Palamarek, Dobr. Jeannette, Joyce Wilk and Wayne Wasylciw.
Our deepest sympathy was extended to Rose Schribar in the loss of her brother Nick
Wengreniuk. May he rest in peace. Vichnaya Pamyat!
St. Stephen’s Cemetery and General Meeting of the Parish – Please attend the presentation
and learn about the progress made at the cemetery. Read the St. Stephen’s Communicator
which provides information about the cemetery and about the development the City of
Edmonton is planning around the cemetery.
The general meeting is going to provide you with the changes in catering in our parish hall. You
need to be informed about the changes being implemented since this will affect you as a
member.
Internment Plaque Unveiling –
To mark the 100th anniversary of Canada’s first national internment operations of 1914 – 1920,
the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation will be unveiling 100 plaques on Friday,
August 22, 2014, the 100th anniversary of the War Measures Act. The CTO (“One Hundred”)
project is financially supported by the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation and the
Endowment Council of the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund. All 100
plaques will be unveiled at 11 am (local time) in Ukrainian, Croatian, Serbian, German, and
Hungarian churches and cultural centres, as well as in local and regional museums and other
public venues, creating a “wave” of unveilings, moving from east to west, from coast to coast.
There were 24 camp sites in Canada. Kingston’s Fort Henry camp was the location of Canada’s
first permanent internment camp. These plaques will hallow the memory of all the victims of
the internment operations and help educate our fellow Canadians about a little-known episode
in Canada’s national history. Our Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of St. Michael was chosen as one of
the sites to receive this internment plaque. The committee is in the process of inviting
dignitaries, sister parishes, the Bishop and media for this event. We’re calling on people to set
aside 11AM (local time) on Friday, 22 August, 2014 so that you can join us in witnessing a
plaque unveiling in our own community. Be there to remember, and to learn. This is the first
time in Canadian history that any community has attempted to unveil 100 historical plaques
from coast to coast at the same ( local) time.

A GRANDMOTHER A grandmother is someone special.
When you’re small, she has the most comfortable lap in the world,
and, as you grow, she continues to have the most loving arms and
the warmest heart anywhere.
She’s someone you can go to with a problem, trust to keep a secret,
count on for love and sympathy, and look to for understanding
when everything seems to go wrong….
Above all else, a grandmother is one of the greatest blessings you’ll ever know.
She’s someone to think about, to love, and to cherish always.

Христос Воскрес! Воїстину Воскрес! May we all rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ and with it the mystery of our salvation. To all our parish
faithful, a very special Easter greeting. May the miracle of this Easter season bless you with good health,
happiness and prosperity.
We offer our prayers and greetings to the people of Ukraine in this time of turmoil. We reinforce their right of a
free country with the freedom to choose their own government and decide their own destiny to keep Ukraine a
Ukrainian country.
BIG BOUQUETS TO: SPRING BAZAAR
Thank you to all the people who worked so hard to
make the Spring Bazaar a huge success. Crowds of
people came making purchases of pyrohy, cabbage
rolls, paska, etc. Most of these people also enjoyed a
meal of pyrohy and sausage. Thank you to everyone
for helping at this function.
PASSIA SERVICE
The Passia service on April 6 was also very well
attended. Of the five Orthodox parishes in
Edmonton, this may have been the largest
turnout. Once again, thank you to the people
who put together a luncheon following the
service. A variety of tasty appetizers were
well made and well displayed by the
volunteers. Your efforts did not go
unnoticed. Thank you.
BASKETS FOR SHUT-INS
Every year, when Easter baskets are blessed,
the Women’s Association make a small
basket of food including a small paska,
boiled eggs, sausage, etc. for parish senior
shut-ins. These are blessed and arrangements
are made for the basket to be delivered or
picked up. Several parish people have made a
very special effort in putting together these
baskets and making arrangements for their delivery.
Thank you for taking on this project.

EASTER LUNCHEON
On Sunday, April 27 following Divine Liturgy the
Women’s Association served a delicious luncheon
of baked ham, potato salad, sausage, cheese, etc
Even though many of the parishioners attended
provody in the country churches, the attendance at
the luncheon was still very good.
A very special thank you to the people who
volunteered to purchase the groceries and prepare
the luncheon. Well done and delicious too!
FAREWELL ANDY &
KAREN
Andy and Karen Feniuk
have decided to make a
major change in their life by
moving to Okanagan Falls
in British Columbia. On
behalf of the Women’s
Association I thank Karen
for all her years of
dedication to our
organization. She was the
treasurer for 10 years,
volunteered to bake
Posphora, worked in the
kitchen, helped with bazaars
and along with Andy
purchased groceries for the Women’s Association as
well as the parish.
Thank you again for all your hard work and I wish
you well in your new home.
