cordially invited to take part in the Service and activities of our Church. If
you would like to be placed on our mailing and E-mail list, please sign our
Guest Book located in the Narthex.
PARTICIPATION IN THE DIVINE LITURGY
Please use the Divine Liturgy books that are found in the pew racks.
These books contain the Armenian text as well as the English
transliteration and translation in the second section.
For your convenience, the applicable page number in the burgundy Divine
Liturgy book is located above the right door by the Altar leading to the
Vestry. If assistance is needed, please ask a member of the Parish
Council. Please observe the “Arrows” in the new liturgy books. They
indicate when you should Stand, Sit or Kneel.
Parishioners are also encouraged to sing with the Choir, whose real
purpose is to lead the congregation in singing the hymns. Also join in the
recitation of the Creed which is found on pages 18 and 19 of the second
section.
COLLECTION PLATE
To allow the opportunity for everyone to participate, the collection plate
will be passed after Holy Communion.
REVERENCE REQUIRED
Please be advised that, according to the tradition of the Armenian Church,
members of the congregation are strongly reminded to refrain from
walking in and out of the Sanctuary while services are in progress. You
are especially reminded not to do so during 1) the Chanting of the
Gospel (p. 17; 2) recitation of the Creed (Havadamk), (p. 18); 3) the
Chalice Procession, (pg.24-25); 4) the Hymn, “Der Voghormya,” (pg.
45); and 5) distribution of the Holy Communion (p. 49). Also, please do
not chew gum or cross legs during church services and we ask that
everyone kindly turn off all Cell phones and all other such electronic
devices prior to entering the sanctuary out of respect for the sanctity of our
services.
MAS' At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the 'Mas' or Holy Bread is distributed to the
congregation. When you take your 'Mas' you kiss it and eat it. A good custom is
to take some home to those members of the family who wanted to come to
church, but were unable to.
Distribution of “MAS”
The person giving says: Mas yev pajin yeghitzi kez ee sourp badarakes
May this be to thee a share and a
portion from the Holy Sacrifice.
The person receiving says: Pajin im Asdvadz havidyan
God is my portion forever.

Bible Reading: Holy Gospel of Our Lord according to St. Luke 11:1-13
Our Lord Jesus Christ: e was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his
his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught
taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray,
say: “Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Give us each
day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive
every one who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.”And he
said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight
and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has
arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will
answer from within, `Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my
children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'? I
tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his
friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever
he needs. And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will
find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks
receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be
opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of
a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a
scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to
those who ask him!”

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK Dispel the pains and heal the sickness of thy people, O Lord our God, and grant to
all perfect recovery by the sing of thy allvictorious Cross by which thou didst
remove the infirmity of mankind and didst condemn the enemy of our life and
salvation. Thou art our life and able to forgive our sins and dispel disease and
sickness; O Giver of good things, bestow Thy abundant mercy according to the
wants of each of thy creatures by whom the All Holy Trinity is ever glorified and
praised: Now and ever, world without end. Amen.
Today is the “Paregentan” of the fast of Advent
Actually, there is no “Advent” per se in the Armenian church calendar.
Rather, the approximately 50-day period preceding our Christmas is called
Heesnag (from the word for fifty, Heesoon). Hisnag contains a total of three
designated weeks of fasting -- aside from the usual Wednesday and Friday
fasts -- so unlike Great Lent it is not a continuous period of such discipline.
Bottom line: Our Hisnag, just as in the Western Church’s Advent, is a
beautiful time to prepare, body and soul, for the celebration of the birth of
our Savior, Jesus Christ. Focus on Scripture, being at church with your
Christian family, prayer, worship, fasting, and good works. [email protected] Department of Christian Education
