WAY TO GO, SSA KL!

Many thanks to our SSA members who bought a record-breaking RM 1765 in raffle tickets and RM 795 in used books at our International Coffee Morning. The monies will go towards supporting Tanma, a women’s cooperative of Burmese refugee women, and the

Sahabat Support Centre, which provides education, family health care, and support to refugee families in Ampang.

We couldn’t have our successful raffles without the support of prize donations

from our members. Thank you to these ladies who brought back some lovely prizes from their travels:

Look for the next charity raffle and SSA Book Shoppe at our Annual General Meeting on November 20th!

How Can I help?

We are collecting the following items at our coffee mornings. Just leave with a member of the Charity Team, and they will take care of the rest!

Donate a raffle prize—donated prizes ensure our entire raffle monies go to the needy. If you find an interesting gift from your country or your travels, it would make a great prize for someone while helping to raise money for an SSA supported charity.

Donate used books—the SSA Book Shoppe needs more books, for children and adults!

Collect travel-sized toiletries from hotels and airlines—these will be collected and put into gift bags for the needy.

In Memoriam

The Charity Team would like to recognize the generous donation SSA member, Abeer Beydoun, made to the Sahabat Support Centre in memory of her grandmother, Hikmat Beydoun. The charity team used her donation to purchase emergency support food kits for the refugee families registered at the center.

Seventy families are currently registered for the food aid at the refugee center. However, eighty families are still on a waiting list to receive food aid. If you would like to help, please visit www.msri.org.my for more information, or speak to Charity Team member

THE KL HUB | Issue # 18 5

After a great summer holiday,

our SSA ladies met up with

enthusiasm and good cheer to

greet each other and share

holiday snippets at Magenta Restaurant on 29th of August.

With a huge spread of

scrumptious sandwiches,

mouth-watering quiche,

delicious party cakes, fresh fruit

slices, yummy cookies and a

wide choice of gourmet tea

and coffees... our ladies

enjoyed their morning

catching up with old friends

and greeting the new members warmly.

We started the morning by

introducing the new SSA

members. We had 16 new

members who were attending

their first coffee morning in the

KL Chapter. We welcomed

Analis Asih, Angela Maria

Arevelo, Anna Cristina Rausch,

Armanda Dingledy-Rodie,

Chiquitita Tamba, Frederique Idri, Gloria Uribe, Katrina Ross,

Paola Salazar, Sabrina

Boukercha, Shen Yue,

Stephanie McVie, Zhou Wang,

Adriana Verdugo, Kristin

Belcher and Camila Senel. We

wish them a fantastic tenure in Malaysia.

With the ongoing tradition of

celebrating birthdays we

wished Analis Asih, Angela

Arevelo, Ira Kurniawan,

Mahboubeh Rahimzadeh, Ping

Hu, Shilpa Verma and Shen Yue a wonderful birthday.

We had the popular and much

awaited lucky draw for the

door prizes. Here the new

comer's luck worked for

Stephanie McVie, Armanda

Rodie and Katrina Ross who

won delightful gifts. Our

charities team member, Laura

Miller also walked away with a

lucky prize.

We would like to appreciate the efforts of two special ladies

Jennifer Guthrie and Kari

Granier who stepped up to

look after the registration desk

at the coffee morning. It is

because of their commitment

that this coffee morning was a

huge success. Thank you ladies!!

While wishing you a fond

adieu.... the SSA KL Hospitality

team hope to see you at the next coffee morning!

SSA-KL Self Defense

- PROTECTION

PROGRAM CLASS

Last October 8th, Activity

team organized a Self-

Defense class to give some

safety tips and knowledge to

our members. This class did

not encourage us to fight

back but it gave us the tools

to try and defend ourselves

in a difficult situation. This

was only a foundation class,

would be needed if we wish

to master all the techniques.

Master Francis Albert taught

us and explain about: body

language, potential target

and identifying the threat.

Also we will learn how to

escape from a kidnap

situation, snatch thief

avoidance, chokehold from

front technique, and other

skills.
