CCC MOPS NEWSLETTER VOLUME 7 ISSUE 2 OCTOBER 2007
If You Give a Mom a Muffin
If you give a Mom a muffin, She'll want a cup of coffee to go with it. She'll pour herself some. The coffee will get spilled by her three year old. She'll wipe it up. Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks. She'll remember she has to do some laundry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, she'll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer. Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan dinner for tonight. She will get out a pound of hamburger. She will look for her cookbook (101 Things to Make with a Pound of Hamburger). The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail. She will see the phone bill which is due tomorrow. She will look for her checkbook. The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two year old. She'll smell something funny. She'll change the two year old. While she is changing the two year old the phone will ring. Her four year old will answer it and hang up. She remembers that she wants to phone a friend to come for coffee on Friday. Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup. She will pour herself some. And chances are... If she has a cup of coffee... Her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it. by Kathy Fictorie based on "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Numeroff

Minding Thoughts By Tricia Goyer
The thousands of me-to-me conversations going on in my head throughout the day are labeled by psychologists as "self-talk." Relentless, repetitive self-talk transforms our self-image-for good or for bad. It modifies both our inner and outer worlds. We will do what our thoughts tell us to do. God knows that. That's why God desires His truth to cover all our thoughts.
I don't know about you, but there's often a distinc-tion between the thoughts I invite into my inner world and those God establishes. My thoughts are anything but stable. They waver and change. They accuse when they should praise. They mock when they should trust.

C O R N e R
Q: How does a mom handle indirect
pressures from family and friends,
especially around the holidays?
A: Try “The Art of Acknowledgement” — Ac-knowledging means we respond verbally to the “elephants in our rooms,” in our conversa-tions, and in our own heads. In our heads for
example: “I’m feeling scared and stressed since Susie told me about the elaborate, expensive and creative Halloween costume she plans for Tommy.” Now that it’s out there you can think, “Do I want to invest that much effort? What does it mean to my child? What difference will it make in a month from now?
The art of acknowledgement in our conversations: To your inlaws: “I have the feeling that you often wish you could spend more time with your grandchil-dren and us. We are really grateful for that. Considering how difficult it is for a young family to pack up and travel, could we talk about some healthy ways to work on this? What do you think?”
To your husband: “Honey, I know you must feel that there’s not enough of me to go around since we had kids.”
No need to fix the problem. Simply acknowledge it and see what happens.
~ MM: Alice McKinley

1½ tbsp. butter 1½ cups light brown sugar 6 tbsp. water Popsicle sticks 8 to 10 apples
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the brown sugar and water. Stir until it has a smooth consistency. Gently bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 3 minutes, until the pan's sides get steamy and the mixture is thin but somewhat sticky. Remove from heat. Pierce the center of each apple with a Popsicle stick, then swirl in the cara-mel syrup until coated. Place apples on a greased cookie sheet to harden. Refrigerate for at least 1 to 2 hours. Serves 8 to 10. www.familyfun.com
Make Caramel Apples!
· Craft Materials · Glue or glue stick · Construction Paper · Acrylic paint and brushes
1. Start with a pile of leaves, some ener-getic kids and a camera. After the pic-tures are developed, pick one that cap-tures the spirit of the day and glue it onto a place mat-sized piece of paper.
2. Decorate the border with drawings or leaf prints (lightly paint back of a leaf with paint, then press onto the paper). 3. Once dry, laminate with clear Con-Tact paper or, for about $3 each, splurge and have the place mats profes-sionally laminated at a copy shop.

Minding Thoughts continued from page 1
That's why it's so important for me not to trust my thoughts--but instead to seek God thoughts. There is really no mystery to how to do this. All you have to do is ask! Listen to this: "If you need wisdom-if you want to know what God wants you to do-ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent you asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. They can't make up their minds. They waver back and forth in eve-rything they do" James 1:5-8 (NLT)
God knows that our lives, our families, and the training up of our kids can be transformed if we depend upon His thoughts instead of our own. Ask God to enrich your words and thoughts. Then, confess, talk truth, and depend on the Spirit within you. No great mystery about that--but the results will be astonishing!
