Transcript of October is Pastor Appreciation month, - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com... · God's children to...
October is Pastor Appreciation month, but, and you just knew there’d be a “but” here, didn’t you, I can’t help but wonder why it is that we actually need to have this “national observance,” with a month set aside to honor our Pastor. Honestly, if we need a special event like “Pastor Appreciation Month” to show our appreciation and support for our Pastor, we must be in serious need of a “Spiritual Oil Change,” and maybe a tune-up, too! Why limit our encouraging words toward our Pastor to the month of October? Could it be that we need to soothe our aching consciences for all the times that we take our Pastor for granted? He works vigorously, often neglecting his own personal needs to give us comfort and direction. He does so much, yet receives so little in return. Many Pastors, and their families, live their lives under spotlights and magnifying glasses. So, how should we honor our Pastor? Well, first and foremost, we should pray daily for him. Secondly, we should honor him during the other 11 months of the year, not just October. As for the other things, be creative, encourage because you want to not because you have to!

Our annual Missions Conference will kick off on Friday, October 7
th at 7:00 p.m.,
when our visiting missionaries will answer questions about their work and how the Lord has been using them in their various ministries. Featured Missionaries for this year are:
• Tom & Sue Peters GBIM, Africa
• Dave & Teresa Searcy NTM in Indonesia
• Teena Embaugh SEND International
• David Johns Horizons International
At 8:00 p.m., we will have the opportunity to go downstairs and walk around to see the displays set up by each missionary and to visit with them and ask them any questions you may still have. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. There will also be light refreshments served. On Saturday, October 8
th at 7:00
p.m., Teena Embaugh will be sharing what the Lord has been doing in her ministry with the MK’s (Missionary Kids) and what her part is in this ministry. At 8:00 p.m., Tom & Sue Peters will share what the Lord has been in doing in their ministry in Africa.
Sunday morning will begin early at 8 a.m. for the Harvest Breakfast. Everyone is invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a great breakfast and another opportunity to talk with our missionaries. During the Sunday School hour, Teena will be sharing with the Children’s Sunday School and David Johns will share with the youth. The Peters & the Searcys will be ministering to the combined adult classes in the Sanctuary. David John will be speaking during the worship hour, giving us an update on his Muslim Ministry. The Conference will conclude Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. with David & Teresa Searcy sharing about their unique ministry in the jungles of Indonesia.
We hope that you will join us for our Missionary Conference this year. What a blessing for us that these missionaries are willing to take time from their busy schedules to spend time with us sharing what the Lord has been doing in their various missions. This is the perfect opportunity to get a better understanding of what our missionaries do and how the Lord is using them so that we can better encourage and pray for them.

This was our staple verse for the week at Momentum (Grace Brethren National Youth Conference). Our main focus for the week was studying the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth; who was and is the Christ, Immanuel. A few of Middlebranch GBC’s The Josiah Effect members along with the Lexington GBC’s Revolution Youth Group made the trek out to Johnstown, Pennsylvania this past July for a time of retreat, fellowship and sleep deprivation. It was an amazing time with good teaching, based on God’s Word, and some awesome worship time! We also had a great time getting closer together and growing in our friendships. The Holy Spirit was truly with us and His work was evident in everything, from the extremely important (we had one member of the Josiah Effect come to know our Lord and Savior personally and two other members who rededicated their lives to Christ at Momentum!) to the minuscule details like having beautiful weather all week long. The Lord in His sovereignty and providence has truly been working (and making it quite apparent) in MGBC’s The Josiah Effect over the past year. The Lord has honored and blessed me with the opportunity to be a part of it and I’m excited to see where He leads us from here! Continue to pray for us as we lead and teach the next generation of Christ-followers.

LADIES MINISTRIES
The next Book Club is Monday,
October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. You can expect lots of laughs, discussion and even some tears, as we discuss the featured book of the month. The book
in discussion for October is Country Charm by DiAnn Mills. Paula Franklin and her husband planned one day to own a Christian bed and breakfast. Now, five years after his death, she finds the perfect old farmhouse to fulfill her dream. Unfortunately, her daughter Kristi opposes the idea. She insists that Paula invest the life insurance in her stock brokerage firm. The farmhouse requires a complete renovation, and a local contractor, Rick Davenport, offers the lowest bid for the project. Rick and Paula soon become friends. As their relationship deepens, the strife between mother and daughter steadily grows worse. When Kristi threatens to destroy everything Paula believes in, Rick becomes a source of comfort...and more. Libby Workman invites us to her home as this promises to be a meeting with very good discussion. If you like to read, please join us!
Ladies Sunday School Class taught by Joyce Brown
meets every Sunday in the Conference Room and we are currently studying the book, Slaying the Giants In
Your Life by David Jeremiah. Giants plague today's church and while they may not wield spears and shields, they are fearsome, causing far too many of God's children to stumble in their
walks. In Slaying the Giants in Your Life, Dr. David Jeremiah challenges us to stand valiantly against the giants that seek to terrorize today's believers. Dr. Jeremiah weaves gripping real-life stories of contemporary giant slayers who came face-to-face with their own Goliaths: temptation, doubt, procrastination, and jealousy. In each, you will discover afresh the eternal unwavering
promise of God to
overcome those giants.

Women’s Day Away was held Saturday, September
24th at the Wooster Grace Brethren Church. Ten
women from our church ventured out for a great day of
pampering and inspiration. The speaker this year was
Renee Swope, a national speaker, author and co-host
of Proverbs 31 Ministries’ international radio program,
Renee connects with women of all ages and stages in
life. She is the author of the newly released book
entitled, A Confident Heart. A Confident Heart gives
voice to the questions, doubts, struggles, and hopes so
many women have. Renee shared with us how to
identify, overcome, and learn from our self-doubts so
that we can live confidently in God's assurance, truth,
and grace. WHAT A GREAT DAY!

DATED MATERIAL
October 2011 – Issue #9 OUR MOTTO: “The Bible, the Whole Bible, & Nothing But the Bible!”
Missionaries for the month of October are Jim & Marveine Miller. The Miller’s are
now retired from the Mission Field but served for many years doing the Lord’s work with
Wycliffe Bible Translators. Please send them a note of encouragement to 6915 Shady Oak Lane,
Waxhaw, NC 28173.
Beginning in November, The Lamplighter will be issued on a bi-monthy basis. The first bi-
monthly issue will be November/December.
We have a celebrity in our church family. There was a huge article in The Repository’s Monday,
September 26th
edition entitled, “Word War II: Then and Now, Cargo Plane Pilot” on Bob
Hawell. Thank you Bob for your service to our country and congratulations on an excellent
write up in the newspaper.
Agape Outreach Ministry is alive and running here at Middlebranch thanks to Doris Kettering
& Grace Silvius. Every week they faithfully stock our bread shelves with bread, bagels, buns
and goodies. Thank you ladies for serving the Lord the way you do here at Grace!
