DID YOU KNOW?
Talking about stranger danger The idea of “stranger danger” is often too broad a con-cept for children to grasp as not all strangers are dan-gerous, and children will always be meeting new peo-ple and on occasion may need to ask a stranger for help. Instead of issuing a blanket warning, try these tips for keeping children safe around people they do not know. If an unknown adult approaches them, have them check with a parent or known and trusted adult before engaging in conversation. This can be as simple as a quick look to the parent followed by a nod indi-cating that it is okay to interact. As an adult yourself, you can set a good example by talking first to parents, then to children in their care. This helps your own children see how trustworthy adults engage with chil-dren around their parents and helps them learn caution for adults who do not act in the same way. For more tips, request the VIRTUS® article “Communication Tip No. 5: Stranger Danger” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.

While watching Mass on line at 6:30 am during the week and at 8 & 10 am on Sun-day, and it is time for the distribution of the Eucharist (Communion), you may say the
following Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
Amen

Step into Christ, Step out to Mission ~ Holy Doors of Mission
During the Jubilee Year, a plenary indulgence will be granted to all the faithful who meet the usual condi-tions and visit any of the pilgrimage sites within the Archdiocese to spend some time there at least to pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be with the in-tention of uniting themselves with the missionary spirit of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the New Evangeli-zation, and St. Junípero Serra, founder of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel.
A Holy Door represents Jesus Christ, who states: “I am the door” (John 10:1). Christ is the entry to new life. To cross the threshold of the Holy Door is to step into Christ, and to pass through the doors of the Church into the world is to step into mission. The Lord we en-counter in the Church, above all in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, sends us forth from there to be missionaries of the Gospel.

What is Alpha? Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian Faith.
Who is it for? Alpha is for anyone who is curious. Al-pha talks are designed to encourage conversation about the Christian Faith in a friendly, open and informal environ-ment.
How does it work? Alpha is ten sessions with a weekend- day away in the middle. Each session begins with dinner, followed by a short talk and table discussion. No commit-ment and no charge. If Alpha is not for you, that is not a problem.
Is Alpha Catholic? Here’s what our Catholic Priests and Bishops are saying about Alpha:
Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, Preacher to the Papal Household, Vatican “All those who love Jesus love evangelization…”
One of the advantages of Alpha is that it fo-cuses on Kerygma. In the ancient Church, there was a clear distinction between the Ker-ygma and the Didache, the catechesis. The Kerygma was the starting point of faith, and the catechesis had to form the faith. But faith in itself blossoms only by hearing the Keryg-ma...I especially appreciate the ecumenical spirit of Alpha: there is no pressure on any-body to join a different denomination, but just to join Jesus.”
Join us beginning Monday, October 4th @ 6:30 pm Via Zoom!
Come for fellowship and to ask the questions you’ve wanted to ask.

Welcome our new Deacon!
Beginning the month of October we are pleased to announce that Deacon Luis E. Gonzalez will be joining us to be a Deacon in our Hispanic Community.
FEAST OF FAITH
The Sign of Peace “Greet one another with a holy kiss,” wrote Saint Paul to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 16:20), and he said the same thing to other communities as well. The holy kiss, the sign of peace, has been a hallmark of Christians from the very beginning. In giving and receiving the sign of peace, we are not giving something of our own, but something that Christ has given to us. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you,” Jesus told his disciples (John 14:27). Jesus comes to us when we gather together in community. We celebrate the Eucharist not just to receive spiritual nourishment to help us on our solitary way to salvation, but to be transformed into one body, the Body of Christ in the world. As we receive the Eucharist, we are not only united to Christ; we are united to each other. It is never easy to live in community, and we hurt each other on the way. So we need to turn to each other in a sign of reconciliation and forgiveness, to look into each other’s eyes, and give and receive the peace that is not ours, but Christ’s. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
