Fast and Abstinence
for Ash Wednesday March 6, 2019
Rules for Roman Catholics in
the United States The law of fasting refers to "those
who have attained their majority," which may differ from
culture to culture and country to country. In the United States,
the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has
declared that "the age of fasting is from the completion of the
eighteenth year to the beginning of the sixtieth."
The USCCB also allows the substitution of some other form
of penance for abstinence on all Fridays of the year, except
for the Fridays of Lent.
The rules for fasting and abstinence in the United States are:
Every person 14 years of age or older must abstain from
meat (and items made with meat) on Ash Wednesday,
Good Friday, and every Friday of Lent.
Every person between the ages of 18 and 59 (your 18th
birthday completes your 18th year, and your 59th birthday
begins your 60th year) must fast on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday.
Fasting consists of one full meal per day, with two
smaller meals that do not add up to a full meal, and no
snacks. Every person 14 years of age or older must abstain from
meat on all other Fridays of the year unless he or she
substitutes some other form of penance for abstinence. If you
are outside the United States, check with the bishops'
conference for your country for specific fasting rules. Courtesy of ThoughtCo.com by Scott P. Richert

Breaking Bread Homeless Ministries News From The Streets…
Forever Sowing Seeds of Love Part 2
By Mary Martha Primerano Once the teenagers came up close, they saw Walt
and recognized our SUV. One of them exclaimed, “Hey! I know you! I remember you from when I was a little kid. You gave me a blanket. And you read us Bible stories.”
That small statement is why we go out and encour-age those who are broken, lost, or alone. Those teenagers actually remembered the daily devotional Walt had read to them, and it mattered. You see, I’ve heard it said before that we may be the only Bible some people read. Our job is to show them that there is a God in heaven who loves them very much and has not forgotten them.
At Breaking Bread, we understand that there are other ministries who come after us and reap the harvest of our seeds sown, but that’s okay because that is how God’s kingdom works. John 4:37 says, “For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’” Because of the exam-ples Jesus and his disciples left us, we have come to realize that we all work as one.

Hoy hemos
O nuestras confesiones. Nuestras confesiones no
amamos a nuestros hermanos.
to. Amén.
Padre Nicolás Schwizer
