Remarks from Fr. Michael

New Saint, Saint Amphilochios of Patmos (1889-1970) Two weeks ago, our Mother Holy Church of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople officially proclaimed from the Synod the recording of the name of Father Amphilochios Makris, of Patmos, in the diptychs of the Saints of our Holy Orthodox Church. The classification of Saint Amphilochios in the Holy Church gives us the opportunity briefly to touch upon certain facts from his life. He was born in 1889 by Emmanuel and Irene Makris. His parents were religious people as any islander of that time. Saint Amphilochios was honest with himself. The vigil light in front of the icons was always lit and his prayer was unceasing. The Services of the Church were always in his life. In the evening he always did the Small Compline and very early in the morning offered the morning prayers. He was

saying, "the teachings are good, but the monk is fed by the Prayers. In the space of prayer, he breathes freely”. He believed that studying the books of the Church (Holy Bible; Life and Teachings of the Saints) with prayer are the keys to eternal life. Everyone who wanted to see him was welcomed with a pleasant face and with a real smile even those who had hurt him. He loved the other one, whether they fell into sin or got back up. Candles, incense, bread, kolliva and the vigil light were in use at home. Generally, Patmos had a tradition of piety that Saint Christodoulos brought from Latros when he came to Patmos. This tradition has been molded into their lives, and since then it has characterized the life of the Monks and the laity who lived on the island. Thus, Saint Amphilochios grew up in a great environment and his heart was full of love for all creation. When he was a one-year-old on Good Friday, he closed his eyes and did not ask to be breastfeed all day long. Only after midnight he woke up and nursed. In March 1901 he became a Novice monk and five months later, in August he was tonsured as a monk. From Athanasius, he received the name Amphilochios for his Godfather and Bishop of Pelousion, Amphilochios Kappos. It is said that his food was a few spoonfuls of food and he did not eat any more.

In 1911 he came to Mount Athos to learn a trade so that he could have a source of income. He went to many of the Monasteries and observed that many monks were standing and they did not move from their place during the many hours of Services. This practice he kept in his own life. He stayed for a long time in the cell (Monastery) of the Elder Daniel Koutounakiotis, where he learned to carve wooden spoons and other items. He returned to Patmos and to avoid his ordination in 1913 he went to Alexandria of Egypt and then to the Holy Land. He was baptized in the Jordan River and told about the Grace of the blessed Jordan River that even today, when pious priests descend into the waters of being baptized, they see the waters reversing. He went back to Patmos, at Apollo's seat with elder Makarios Antoniadis where he received the Great Schema and was taught spiritually. Elder Makarios was the descendant of the family of the Kollivades. From the rigorous disciplines he became sick and was hemorrhaging. They advised him to go to Smyrna to a doctor. "The ship arrived in Smyrna at dusk. My soul was full of joy and yearning that I would see the Church of the Revelation. Unfortunately, the beaches were full of people inappropriately dressed. I asked if they were Turks or Greeks and they answered - Greeks and even Christians! I got off the ship with a heavy heart and walked around the city and wondered. THE SOURCE OCTOBER 2018 Church of so many other Martyrs and Saints? So suddenly an elder clergyman appeared in front of me and said: “Amphilochios, do not worry. There will come a time when the fire will burn everything you see. It will come from one side of the city and it will go to the other. The old man disappeared. Indeed, my children many years did not pass and it was heard everywhere: The Turks burnt the beautiful and famous city of Smyrna!! " His relationship with the people was always very careful. They wondered how the peasant of Patmos had so much courtesy and aristocracy. He had a close relationship and acquaintance with Metropolitan of Pentapolis, Saint Nektarios. He met St. Nektarios in 1914. As a monk and later as a deacon, Father Amphilochios visited and co-celebrated Liturgy and other Services with him. Father Amphilochios felt alive with the presence of Saint Nektarios in his life. Every Sunday he placed on the Bishop’s throne a piece of Saint Nektarios’ relic to feel that the Saint was present. In 1968 he went to Aegina to the Monastery of Saint Nektarios and they told him to sit at the place where the Saint used to stay, he replied: "No, because the Saint is sitting there" He met many people and his concern was that people lived and died without confession, without Holy Communion. He would pray entire nights mentioning names for people so they would find the way of salvation. Also he wished for Monasteries to perform missionary work in the surrounding area offering help, charity, confession. First, take care of the human needs and then talk about Christ. Saint Amphilochios cared for the dignity of the Holy Cave of the Revelation. He Iconographed the chapel of St. Anna with scenes from the Revelation and renovated the floor of the Church. He planted pine trees, cypress trees and eucalyptus trees around the Holy Cave, and watered them by himself, carrying water throughout the summer. With this way he also defeated the temptations of the flesh. He was saying about the Holy Cave that the Theologian still walked in the Cave. Indeed, after a vision from a small child he placed a railing in the place where the Apostle John was resting to avoid being stepped on by the people. In the middle of the cave he placed a stand where the book of the Revelation was always open so that every pilgrim could read a piece of the prophetic book in this miraculous place He was elected as an Abbot in 1935. In 1938 the Italians exiled him and then he went to Athens. The brotherhood of Zoe accepted and gave him the assignment of Father Confessor. Then he went and was hearing confessions in Giannena, Thessaloniki, Crete, Athens, and Aegina. The people of Aegina received him with much love while the Elder also embraced them in a similar way. In 1968 he confessed to Father Gregory that in Aegina he found comfort and warmth in the difficult days of his exile. Concerning Patriarch Bartholomew in 1958 said: "This is the future patriarch of Constantinople”. After his death, with the invocations of his name, he healed a blind child. He also healed a child who suffered from leukemia, and many other miraculous events were accomplished by His intercessions. In 1969, in a Divine Liturgy, Father Gregory recalled, a bright light came all over his face and to his entire body! He quietly died on Thursday of Lazarus on April 16, 1970. Through our intercessions of our Holy Father Amphilochios may the Lord bless all of us. Amen.

Νέος Αγιος, Ο Αγιος Αμφιλόχιος τού Πάτμου (1889-1970)

Πριν δύο εβδομάδες η Αγία τού Θεού Μεγάλη Εκκλησία τού Γένους, τό Οικουμενικό μας Πατριαρχείον στήν Κων/νούπολι επισήμως ανεκήρυξε από Συνόδου τήν εγγραφή τού Ονόματος τού πατρός Αμφιλοχίου Μακρή, του εν Πάτμω είς τήν χορείαν τών Αγίων τής Αγίας μας Εκκλησίας. Η κατάταξη τού Αγίου Αμφιλοχίου είς τό Αγιολόγιον τής Εκκλησίας μάς προσφέρει τήν ευκαιρία εν συντομία να αναφέρουμε ορισμένα γεγονότα απο τόν βίο καί τήν πολιτεία Του. Γεννήθηκε τό 1889 από τόν Εμμανουήλ καί τήν Ειρήνη Μακρή. Οι γονείς του ήταν άνθρωποι θρησκευάμενοι όπως καί κάθε νησιώτης της εποχής εκείνης. Ο Αγιος Αμφιλόχιος ήταν τίμιος μέ τόν εαυτόν του. Τό κανδήλι στίς εικόνες ήταν πάντα αναμμένο καί η προσευχή ασταμάτητη. Η εκκλησιαστική ακολουθία ήταν η ζωή του. Τό βράδυ πάντα έκανε τό Απόδειπνο καί πολύ ενωρίς τό πρωί τήν ακολουθία. Ελεγε «καλές είναι οι διδαχές αλλά ο μοναχός τρέφεται μέ τήν ακολουθία. Στό χώρο τής προσευχής αναπνέει ελεύθερα.» Πίστευε ότι η μελέτη στά βιβλία τής Εκκλησίας (Αγία Γραφή καί η ζωή καί διδασκαλία τών αγίων) μέ τήν προσευχή είναι τά κλειδιά τής αιωνίας ζωής. Ολους πού ήθελαν νά τόν ιδούν τούς δεχόταν μέ ευχάριστο πρόσωπο καί μέ αληθινό χαμόγελο ακόμη καί αυτούς πού τόν είχαν πικράνει. Τόν άλλον τόν αγαπούσε, είτε έπεφτε στήν αμαρτία είτε σηκωνότανε. Κεριά, λιβάνι, άρτοι, κόλλυβα καί κανδήλι ήταν σέ χρήση στό σπίτι του. Γενικά η Πάτμος είχε παράδοση ευσέβειας πού ο Οσιος Χριστόδουλος τήν έφερε από τό Λάτρος όταν ήλθε στήν Πάτμο. Αυτή η παράδοση ζυμώθηκε καί έκτοτε χαρακτήριζε τήν ζωήν τών Μοναχών καί τών λαϊκών πού ζούσαν στό νησί. Ετσι ο Αγιος Αμφιλόχιος είχε σπουδαίες καταβολές μέ ήπιο χαρακτήρα καί καρδιά γεμάτη αγάπη γιά όλη τήν κτίση. Οταν ήταν μωρό ενός έτους τήν Μεγάλη Παρασκευή, έκλεισε τά ματάκια του καί όλη τήν μέρα δέν ζήτησε νά θηλάσει. Μόνο μετά τά μεσάνυχτα ξύπνησε καί θήλασε. Τόν Μάρτιο τού 1901 έγινε δόκιμος μοναχός καί πέντε μήνες μετά, τόν Αύγουστο εκάρη μοναχός. Από Αθανάσιος πού ήτο τού έδωσαν τό όνομα Αμφιλόχιος γιά τόν νονό καί θείο του, επίσκοπο Πηλουσίου, Αμφιλόχιο Κάππο. Λέγεται ότι τό φαγητό του ήτο μετρημένες κουταλιές καί περισσότερο δέν έτρωγε. Τό 1911 ήλθε στό Αγιον Ορος γιά νά μάθει εργόχειρο ώστε νά πορίζεται τά πρός τό ζήν. Πήγε σέ πολλά Μοναστήρια καί παρατήρησε ότι πολλοί μοναχοί δέν μετακινούνταν από τά στασίδια τους στή διάρκεια τών πολύωρων Ακολουθιών. Αυτό τό κράτησε καί ο ίδιος στή ζωή του. Εμεινε αρκετό καιρό στό κελλί (Μοναστήρι) τού γέροντα Δανιήλ Κατουνακιώτη όπου καί έμαθε νά σκαλίζει χαρτοκόπτες καί κουτάλια.

Επέστρεψε στήν Πάτμο καί γιά νά αποφύγει τήν χειροτονία του τό 1913 πήγε στήν Αλεξάνδρεια τής Αιγύπτου καί μετά στούς Αγίους Τόπους. Βαπτίστηκε καί στόν Ιορδάνη ποταμό καί έλεγε γιά τήν Χάρι τού ευλογημένου ποταμού Ιορδάνη ότι καί σήμερα όταν ευλαβείς Ιερείς κατέρχονται στά νερά του νά βαπτισθούν, βλέπουν τά νερά νά αναστρέφονται. Πήγε πίσω στήν Πάτμο όπου στό κάθισμα τού Απολλώ κοντά στόν γέροντα Μακάριο Αντωνιάδη έγινε μεγαλόσχημος μοναχός καί εδιδάχθη τά πνευματικά. Ο γέροντας Μακάριος ήτο απόγονος τής οικογενείας τών Κολλυβάδων. Από τήν αυστηρή άσκηση πού έκανε αρρώστησε καί έκαμε αιμοπτύσεις. Τού συνέστησαν νά πάει στήν Σμύρνη σέ γιατρό. «Εφθασε τό πλοίο στήν Σμύρνη τό σούρουπο. Η ψυχή μου ήταν γεμάτη χαρά καί νοσταλγία πού θά έβλεπα μιά από τίς Εκκλησίας τής Αποκαλύψεως. Δυστυχώς οι παραλίες ήταν γεμάτες ανθρώπους άσεμνα ενδεδυμένους. Ρώτησα άν είναι Τούρκοι ή Ρωμιοί καί μού απάντησαν-- Ελληνες καί μάλιστα Χριστιανοί! Κατέβηκα από τό πλοίο μέ καρδιά βαρειά καί περιφερόμουνα στήν πόλι καί διερωτώμουνα. Είναι αυτή η Εκκλησία τού Αγίου Ιερομάτυρος Πολυκάρπου καί τόσων άλλων Μαρτύρων

THE SOURCE OCTOBER 2018 καί Αγίων; Οπότε ξαφνικά παρουσιάστηκε μπροστά μου ένας γέροντας κληρικός καί μού λέγει: «Αμφιλόχιε, μή λυπήσαι. Θά έρθη εποχή, πού η φωτιά θά τά κάψη όλα όσα βλέπεις. Θά μπεί από τή μιά μεριά τής πόλης καί θά βγή στήν άλλην. Τό γεροντάκι έγινε άφαντο. Πράγματι, παιδιά μου, δέν πέρασαν πολλά χρόνια καί παντού ακούστηκε: Οι Τούρκοι έκαψαν τήν όμορφη καί ξακουστή πόλι τής Σμύρνης!!» Η σχέση του μέ τούς ανθρώπους ήταν πάντα πολύ προσεκτική. Απορούσαν γιά τό πώς τό χωριατόπαιδο τής Πάτμου είχε τόση ευγένεια καί αριστοκρατορία. Είχε στενή σχέση καί γνωριμία μέ τόν Μητροπολίτη Πενταπόλεως Αγιο Νεκτάριο. Συνδέθηκε τό 1914 μέ τόν Αγιο Νεκτάριο. Σάν μοναχός καί αργότερα σάν διάκονος επικεπτόταν τόν Αγιο καί συλλειτουργούσε μαζί του. Ο π. Αμφιλόχιος αισθανόταν ζωντανή τήν παρουσία τού Αγίου Νεκταρίου στήν ζωή του. Κάθε Κυριακή τοποθετούσε στόν θρόνο τό τεμάχιο τού Αγ. Λειψάνου τού Αγίου Νεκταρίου γιά νά αισθάνεται ότι ο Αγιος είναι παρών καί χοροστατεί. Οταν τό ΄68 πήγε στήν Αίγινα στήν Μονή τού Αγίου Νεκταρίου καί του είπαν νά καθίσει στό στασίδι τού Αγίου, απήντησε: «Οχι, κάθεται ο Αγιος.» Γνώρισε πολλούς ανθρώπους καί μέσα του τόν κατέτρωγε η ανησυχία γιατί οι άνθρωποι ζούσαν καί απέθνησκαν χωρίς εξομολόγηση, χωρίς Θεία Κοινωνία. Νύχτες ολόκληρες μνημόνευε ονόματα γιά νά βρούν οι άνθρωπο τόν δρόμο τής σωτηρίας.

Επίσης, ήθελε τά Μοναστήρια νά επιτελούν έργο ιεραοστολικό στή γύρω περιοχή μέ τήν αγαθεργία, τήν ελεημοσύνη, τήν εξομολόγηση. Πρώτα νά προσφέρονται τά ανθρώπινα καί έπειτα νά μιλούμε γιά τόν Χριστό. Φρόντισε ο Αγ. Αμφιλόχιος γιά τήν ευπρέπεια τού Ιερού Σπηλαίου τής Αποκαλύψεως. Αγιογράφησε τό παρεκκλήσι τής Αγ. Αννης μέ θέματα από τήν Αποκάλυψη καί έφτιαξε τό δάπεδο τής Εκκλησίας. Φύτεψε γύρω από τόν Ιερό Σπήλαιο πεύκα, κυπαρίσια καί ευκαλύπτους καί τά πότιζε μόνος του κουβαλώντας νερό γιά νά ποτίζονται τό καλοκαίρι. Ετσι νικούσε καί τούς περασμούς τής σάρκας. Ελεγε γιά τό Ιερό Σπήλαιο ότι ο Θεόλογος κινείται ακόμη στόν χώρο τού Σπηλαίου. Μάλιστα μετά από όπτασία καί μικρού παιδιού έβαλε κιγκλίδωμα στόν χώρο όπου αναπαυόταν ο Απόστολος Ιωάννης γιά νά μή πατήται από τούς ανθρώπους. Στό μέσον τού σπηλαίου έβαλε δισκέλι (stand) όπου είχε ανοιχτό πάντοτε τό βιβλίο τής Αποκαλύψεως γιά νά μπορεί κάθε προσκυνητής νά διαβάζει ένα κομμάτι από τό προφητικό βιβλίο σ΄αυτόν τόν φοβερό χώρο. Εξελέγη ηγούγενος τό 1935. Τό 1938 οι Ιταλοί τόν εξόρισαν καί τότε πήγε στήν Αθήνα. Η αδελφότης «Ζωή» τόν δέχθηκε καί τού ανέθεσε τό λειτούργημα τού εξομολόγου. Τότε πήγε γιά νά εξομολογεί στά Γιάννενα, στή Θεσ/νίκη, στήν Κρήτη, στήν Αθήνα, καί στήν Αίγινα. Οι Αιγινίτες δέχθηκαν μέ πολύ αγάπη τόν Αγιο Αμφιλόχιο αλλά καί ο Γέροντας τούς αγκάλιασε μέ όμοιο τρόπο. Ομολογούσε τό 1968 στόν πάτερ Γρηγόριο ότι στήν Αίγινα εύρισκε ανάπαυση καί θαλπωρή στίς δύσκολες ημέρες τής εξορίας του. Περί τού Πατριάρχου Βαρθολομαίου από τό 1958 έλεγε: «Αυτός είναι ο μέλλων πατριάρχης Κων/πόλεως». Μετά τήν κοίμησή του, μέ τίς επικλήσεις τού ονόματός του ανέβλεψε τυφλό μωρό. Επίσης εθεράπευσε παιδί πού έπασχε από λευχαιμία καθώς καί πολλά άλλα θαυμαστά επιτελούνται μέ τήν καταφυγή στίς μεσιτείες του. Τό 1969, σέ μία Θεία Λειτουργία οταν κοινωνούσε, ομολογεί ο πάτερ Γρηγόριος, φώς δυνατό περιέλαμψε τό πρόσωπό του καί ολόκληρος φάνηκε μέσα στό φώς!

Ανεπαύθη ήσυχα τήν Πέμπτη τού Λαζάρου, 16 Απριλίου 1970. Διά πρεσβειών τού Οσίου Πατρός ημών Αμφιλοχίου ο Κύριος νά ευλογεί πάντας ημάς. Αμήν.

VOTER ELIGIBILITY FOR PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS

In order to be eligible to vote in the Parish Council Elections, an individual must be a member in good standing of the Parish, as defined in the Uniform Parish Regulations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. In Chapter One, Article 18, Section 1, of these regulations, a parishioner in good standing is defined as: "Any person, eighteen years of age or over, who was baptized and chrismated according to the rites of the Orthodox Church and lives according to the tenets of the Orthodox faith."

The Uniform Parish Regulations also provide that a member in good standing is one who has met his or her stewardship obligation to the Parish. Under Article VI, Section 1, of our Parish Bylaws, this stewardship obligation is defined as follows: "For purposes of voting in the annual election of Parish Council members, a parishioner in good standing is defined as any member of the Parish who submits a completed stewardship pledge card on or before the end of the Ecclesiastical Year, August 31, prior to the elections on the third Sunday in November of each calendar year." In addition, Article VI, Section 6, of the Parish Bylaws provides that "Absentee ballots shall be made available to parishioners who for physical or health reasons are unable to personally cast a ballot on the day of elections and who are otherwise able, competent, and eligible to vote." Requests for absentee ballots will be available in the church office.

GREEK SCHOOL Greek School started on Wednesday, September 12th at 5:15pm with Agiasmos (Blessing of Water Service). Greek School will be starting at a new time this year. We start at 5:15pm until 7:00pm every Wednesday. Also this year we are introducing a new Adult Greek School class which started on Wednesday, September 26th at 5:15pm till 7:00pm, the same time as regular Greek School. We mailed information about Greek School and the registration form to your homes. Please review all the information and register your children. Looking forward to a beautiful Greek School year with all our wonderful children.

PHILOPTOCHOS Our Philoptochos year began on September

27, 2018 with a Pot Luck Meal and Meeting enjoyed by all. Thank you to all who provided our meal. Along with the wonderful fellowship we had a business meeting reviewing the calendar for the year and a short report from the National Clergy-Laity and Philoptochos Conference held in July in the city of Boston, and a listing and discussion of Philoptochos Responsibilities for Saint Catherine Chapter 6029.

Responsibilities AND our Make a Difference Outreach Project (collecting coats, jackets and sweater for adults and children in used/clean condition).

The October Meeting will be held Tuesday, October 16th at 6:45p.m. We hope to have a few of the youth who attended the Ionian Village experience this past summer discuss their experiences. We will then have a short meeting preparing for Philoptochos Sunday, which will be held on Sunday, November 4th. We will also have updates to our Make a Difference Outreach Project and a review of the 2018 Philoptochos Monetary Outreach List. Please plan on attending and PLEASE BRING A FRIEND.

Ministries and C.A.R.E.S.. In January we will be collecting Hats,

Gloves, and Mittens. There will be a collection box

STS. JOACHIM AND ANNA At the time this article is being written, the Senior Citizens are on their bus trip to Cape Cod. There are 36 Parish members and friends on the trip. Everyone is having a great time.

Our first meeting was attended by over 40 members. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2nd. Our luncheon will be hosted by Jim and Kiki Lloyd, Georgia Kokos and Ann Megoulas. The speaker for our meeting will be Dr. Stephanie Diamond. We are looking forward to seeing a large number of our members attend the meeting.

Membership in the Saints Joachim and Anna Society is open to all Orthodox Christmas who are 55 and over. However, any parishioner can attend our meetings and participate in our trips and other activities. Thanks. Jim P.S. We are really having a good time on the bus trip.

CHURCH LENDING LIBRARY The church library contains information about Orthodoxy and Greece for you and your children. If you would like to borrow a book, fill out the information sheet found in the Library notebook binder. When you return it, be sure to list the date returned by your original sign in. Keep the books as long as you like; just be sure to return them within a reasonable amount of time so that your fellow parishioners may read them as well. Thank you.

HOLY TRINITY BOOKS & GIFTS We have a large selection of items in the bookstore. We provide such as icons, censers, charcoal and incense for your household use. All proceeds from the bookstore either go directly back into the bookstore or into the parish. We have recently received two different CD’s that have Byzantine chants in Greek and English. We are also constantly adding new book titles to our excellent collection of Orthodox books. We can also special order books, icons and other items that are not normally stocked in the bookstore. We also orders icons and other items from the Holy Protection Monastery when needed.

We have the wine that is used for communion available to purchase and donate to Father Michael for use during communion. We recently added bottles of light olive oil that can be donated to Father for the altar vigil light. We also carry a burial cloth (Σαβανο) that has been blessed in Jerusalem at the tomb of Christ. This can be used for funerals. Holy Trinity Books and Gifts’ normal operating hours are following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, and the day when the Sts. LADIES’ BEREAVEMENT

GROUP This group meets once a month on a Thursday. Our next gathering will be held in Thursday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the church library. We will speak on different topics that concern us. Please consider to come.

CONCERNED MOTHERS GROUP The goal of the group is to foster spiritual dialogue among mothers in our community in regards to raising our children in an Orthodox Christian home. We can all probably list many challenges we've faced as our children have journeyed through preschool to high school. The topics of the group will focus on making Orthodoxy a practical, living experience in our daily lives. Father Michael is leading the group. We meet in the Library monthly. This month’s meeting will be on Wednesday, October 24th, at 6:45 p.m. Please join us.

AHEPA WISHES KALO MINA OF OCTOBER 2018

Our KICK-OFF Dinner-Meeting at the Hillside Cafe was a huge success and enjoyed by 41 Ahepan brothers on Sunday

September 9th directly following the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

This event was attended by various members of the District #4 Lodge along with many brothers from Chapter #64 of Harrisburg, PA. Host Brother George Sgagias provided delicious entrees of Delmonico, N.Y. Strip, Crab Cake, and Chicken Cordon-Bleu for this event that was enjoyed by the entire group. Thank you, Brother George. We wish to thank (L-R) Lt. Governor Christopher Shaffer, District Athletic Director Harry Macrides, District Warden Christ Megoulas, District Marshal Dr. Michael Billys, Chairman of the Board Dimitri Zozos, President William Kaldes and Father Michael Varvarelis for honoring us with their presence at the Annual Kick-Off Dinner-Meeting

at the Hillside Café. Father Michael Varvarelis of our own Holy Trinity Cathedral blessed the scrumptious food partaken by the brethren and gave an invocation for the affair. Brothers Shaffer and Megoulas gave the newly elected officers of Chapter #4 the 'Oath of Office' after a tribute for his valor and service for our recently departed highly esteemed Brother and Treasurer Paul Giannaris was reflected upon by Brother Billys. This was a highly dignified and auspicious affair that was enjoyed by all 41 brothers who were able to attend and enjoy the festivities.

Keynote speaker Brother Shaffer gave an informative and inspiring speech on how the District will strive to accomplish many goals this year which will include the continuation of providing funds to secure another 'Service Dog' for a Wounded Warrior, which was a hugely successful project last year for not only our Chapter and District #4, but for the entire National Ahepan organization. Lt. Gov. Shaffer also stated that our District #4 has also adopted a resolution to assist our own Brother David Bobb in his quest to secure funds to finalize his completion of the movie he's producing 'RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES'.

District Athletic Director Harry Macrides gave an inspirational and informative speech which encompassed a historical approach to the many accomplishments of the AHEPA at large on a NATIONAL LEVEL. District Lt. Governor Shaffer also reiterated the notion that Chapter #64 has been a highly successful Chapter in our District and has achieved many accomplishments over the last 4 years including being selected 'Chapter of the Year' for 2 years in a row.

Chapter #64 is also very proud of the ‘Blood Donor’ program that was visited by Lt. Governor Shaffer on September 9th to witness how our distinguished outreach for blood donations are conducted. District Warden Megoulas explained that we conduct these operations 4 times a year. Next Scheduled Blood Donor Day is Sunday, December 23rd, 2018!

ΤΗΣ ΑΓΙΑΣ ΤΡΙΑΔΟΣ JR ENSEMBLE

Τής Αγίας Τριάδος το Junior Ensemble θα αρχίσει μέ γεύμα / εορτασμό 22ης επετείου τους την Κυριακή 21 Οκτωβρίου στό Χώλ τής Εκκλησίας μετά την Θεία Λειτουργία.

Παρακαλούμε να παρακολουθήσετε και να υποστηρίξετε τη νεολαία μας για αυτό το θαυμάσιο πολιτιστικό πρόγραμμα. Δέν θα θέλετε νά τό χάσετε.

ΦΙΛΟΠΤΩΧΟΣ Η χρονιά της Φιλοπτώχου ξεκίνησε στις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου του 2018 με γεύμα και συνάντηση που χαρήκαμε όλοι. Ευχαριστούμε όλους όσους προσέφεραν το φαγητό. Μαζί με την υπέροχη συντροφιά είχαμε την κανινική συνάντηση όπου αναθεωρήσαμε το ημερολόγιο για το έτος και μια αναφερθήκαμε σύντομα στήν Κληρικο-λαική Συγκέντρωση της Φιλοπτώχου που πραγματοποιήθηκε τον Ιούλιο στην πόλη της

Βοστώνης, καθώς και μια λίστα συζήτησης αρμοδιοτήτων της Φιλοπτώχου Αγία Αικατερίνη. Περιλαμβάνεται σε αυτό το ενημερωτικό δελτίο ένα αντίγραφο του Ημερολογίου και των ευθυνών της Φιλοπτώχου και των υπευθυνοτήτων μας "Make a Difference Outreach Project" (συλλογή από ζακέτες, σακάκια και πουλόβερ για ενήλικες και παιδιά σε χρησιμοποιημένη / καθαρή κατάσταση). Η συνάντηση του Οκτωβρίου θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τρίτη 16 Οκτωβρίου στις 6:45μ.μ. Ελπίζουμε να έχουμε μερικούς από τους νέους που παρακολούθησαν την εμπειρία στό Ionian Village το προηγούμενο καλοκαίρι για να συζητήσουν τις εμπειρίες τους. Στη συνέχεια θα έχουμε μια σύντομη συνάντηση που θα μιλήσουμε για την Κυριακή της Φιλοπτώχου, η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Κυριακή, 4 Νοεμβρίου. Θα έχουμε επίσης ενημερώσεις για το έργο μας στο να «Κάνουμε διαφορά με την Διακονία μας της Φιλοπτωχου για το 2018. Ερχεται ο χειμώνας! Στην Κοινότητα της Αγίας μας Τριάδας: Η Φιλοπτωτσός και τό Κατηχητικό Σχολείο

προσκαλούν την Κοινότητά μας να μας στηρίξει για το έργο «Make a Difference Outreach» από 30

Σεπτεμβρίου έως 21 Οκτωβρίου.

Συλλέγουμε χρησιμοποιημένα χειμωνιάτικα σακάκια, παλτά και πουλόβερ (που

χρησιμοποιούνται και είναι καθαρά και μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν από άλλους πού έχουν μεγάλη

ανάγκη). Τα είδη από ρούχα θα δοθούν στις Διακονίες New Hope και C.A.R.E.S.

Τον Ιανουάριο θα συλλέγουμε καπέλα, γάντια και

μικρά γάντια γιά παιδάκια. Θα υπάρχει ένα κουτί συλλογής στό χώλ τής

Εκκλησίας για αυτά τα αντικείμενα. Παρακαλούμε νά υποστηρίξετε καί νά βοηθήσετε

τους λιγότερο τυχερούς / άστεγους. Σας ευχαριστώ και ο Θεός ευλογεί


ΣΥΛΛΟΓΟΣ ΙΩΑΚΕΙΜ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΝΑ

Τη στιγμή που γράφεται αυτό το άρθρο, οι ηλικιωμένοι ταξιδεύουν στο Cape Cod. Υπάρχουν 36 μέλη και φίλοι μας στο ταξίδι. Ο καθένας έχει υπέροχο χρόνο. Στην πρώτη μας συνάντηση συμμετείχαν πάνω από 40 μέλη. Η επόμενη συνάντησή μας έχει προγραμματιστεί για την Τρίτη 2 Οκτωβρίου. Το γεύμα μας θα προσφερθεί από τους Δημήτριο καί Κίκι Lloyd, τη Γεωργία Kokos και την Αννα Μέγουλα. Ο ομιλητής για τη συνάντησή μας θα είναι η Ιατρός Στεφανία Diamond. Ανυπομονούμε να δούμε ένα μεγάλο αριθμό μελών μας να παρευρεθούν στη συνάντηση. Η συμμετοχή στό Σύλλογο τού Ιωακείμ και της Άννας είναι ανοιχτή στους Ορθόδοξους ενορίτες που είναι 55 ετών και άνω. Ωστόσο, οποιοσδήποτε ενορίτης μπορεί να παρευρεθεί στις συναντήσεις μας και να συμμετάσχει στα ταξίδια μας και άλλες δραστηριότητες. Ευχαριστούμε, Δημήτριος Περνάμε ώραία στό ταξίδι μας.

ΒΙΒΛΙΟΘΗΚΗ Η Βιβλιοθήκη τής Εκκλησίας διαθέτει βιβλία γιά τήν Ορθοδοξία καί τήν Ελλάδα γιά παιδιά καί μεγάλους. Μπορείτε νά δανειστείτε βιβλία υπογράφοντας τό βιβλίο πού είναι στήν Βιβλιοθήκη. Μπορείτε νά κρατήσετε τά βιβλία γιά ορισμένο καιρό αλλά σάς παρακαλούμε νά τά επιστρέψετε γιά νά μπορούν καί άλλοι νά τα διαβάσουνε. Ευχαριστούμε.

ΒΙΒΛΙΟΠΩΛΕΙΟ – ΒΙΒΛΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΔΩΡΑ

Ελπίζουμε ο καθένας να απολαμβάνει τα καλοκαιρινά του ταξίδια και δραστηριότητες. Τα πράγματα ήταν σταθερά για το βιβλιοπωλείο αυτό το καλοκαίρι. Ανυπομονούμε πάντοτε να εξυπηρετήσουμε τους ενορίτες μας για να βρουν κάποιο βιβλίο η κάτι άλλο που χρειάζονται για δική τους χρήση ή για οικογένεια ή φίλους. Εχουμε εικόνες, θυμιατά, κάρβουνο και θυμίαμα για οικιακή χρήση. Όλα τα έσοδα από το

βιβλιοπωλείο πηγαίνουν είτε απευθείας στο βιβλιοπωλείο είτε στην ενορία. Πρόσφατα λάβαμε υπέροχα διαφορετικά CD που έχουν βυζαντινές ψαλμωδίες στα Ελληνικά και στα Αγγλικά. Ακόμη την Μικρή Παράκληση και την Μεγάλη. Επίσης προσθέτουμε συνεχώς νέα βιβλία στην εξαίρετη συλλογή Ορθοδόξων βιβλίων μας. Μπορούμε επίσης να παραγγείλουμε ειδικά βιβλία, εικόνες και άλλα αντικείμενα που δεν είναι διαθέσιμα στο βιβλιοπωλείο. Έχουμε το κρασί που χρησιμοποιείται για την θεία κοινωνία διαθέσιμο καθώς και ελαιόλαδο για να αγοράσετε και να το προσφέρετε στον Πατέρα Μιχαήλ για χρήση για τη Θεία Κοινωνία και τα κανδηλάκια στην Αγία Τράπεζα. Εχουμε καί τό Σάβανο πού έχει ευλογηθεί από τά Ιεροσόλυμα στό Τάφο τού Χριστού πού μπορεί νά χρησιμοποιηθεί γιά τίς κηδείες. Οι κανονικές ώρες λειτουργίας του Βιβλιοπωλείου της Αγίας Τριάδας είναι αμέσως μετά τη Θεία Λειτουργία την Κυριακή και την ημέρα που ο Σύλλογος Αγ. Ιωακείμ και Άννας συναντιούνται από τις 11:00 π.μ. έως τις 1:00 μ.μ. ΓΚΡΟΥΠ ΠΕΝΘΟΥΣ Δημιουργήθηκε μια νέα σύναξη. Ο Πάτερ-Μιχαήλ έχει προσεγγιστεί από μερικούς ενορίτες και έχει ξεκινήσει ένα γκρούπ γιά γυναίκες πού έχασαν τους συζύγους τους. Αυτό τό γκρούπ θα έχει συνάντηση μία φορά το μήνα την Πέμπτη. Η Πρεσβυτέρα με τον Πάτερ-Μιχαήλ προσκαλούν την συμμετοχή αυτών των γυναικών. Η επομένη συνάντησή μας θα γίνει 25 Οκτωβρίου στίς 11:30πμ . Μιλούμε για διάφορα θέματα που αφορούν τους συμμετέχοντες. Παρακαλούμε να έρθετε. Σάς ευχόμαστε καλή υγεία.

ADVERTISING IN THE SOURCE In an effort to contain printing costs for monthly newsletters, many churches have turned to paid

advertisements in their publications. Parish Council has agreed to adopt this funding source for our monthly publication. Doing this would help lessen and possibly erase the expense of publishing the Source.

We now have availability for two pages of paid ads in our monthly Source. The ad price will represent a year of advertising or 11 issues as we combine the June and July Source into one issue. Ads are sold by the block. There will be room for 24 ads or blocks per page. You may purchase more than one block for increased space and presentation. The cost of one ad block is $125 per year, and subsequent blocks would be an additional $100 per block. For example, a business card ad would equal two blocks and would cost $225. Camera-ready ads are appreciated but not required.

Please help us promote this program. If you own or work for a business that may be interested in advertising in our Source which is sent out to over 600 families, please contact Mary in the church office. If you know of a business that may be a potential advertiser, please pass on a contact and phone number. Examples of businesses that may be interested in advertising could be Greek bands, importers, baptismal supplies/clothing stores, and jewelers specializing in crosses. Other possibilities could be lawyers, accountants, real estate agents, etc. The only ads we cannot accept are ones pertaining to credit cards, travel, or insurance.
