Dear Friends of Knuston HallWe are delighted to send you this programme of courses and learning events stretching months and even years into the future. As a result of a number of changes in the way we develop this programme, we are now able to have hundreds of courses online at www.knustonhall.org.uk

Many of you will have visited Knuston recently and seen for yourself the amazing changes to key parts of the indoor environment; mainly I refer to the refurbishment of The Dining Room, The Lounge and the remainder of the West Wing bedroom accommodation. I have never seen such excitement and obvious appreciation. I think everybody will agree that the way in which this refurbishment programme has been carried out and the quality of the results has left many people speechless when seeing the results for the first time.

It was with great sadness that we received news earlier in the month that Kim Patenall, our Domestic Supervisor, had passed away after a short battle with cancer. Since joining the team here at Knuston Hall over three years ago, Kim had shown great pride in all aspects of the interior environment and had gone to great lengths to ensure that all areas of this beautiful building were being given the right level of tlc. Our thoughts are with Kim’s family at this difficult time.

In April last year, Knuston Hall was part of the coming together of Northamptonshire County Council and First For Wellbeing to offer a wide range of wellbeing-related services and activities to the public. If you think you would like to know a little bit more, please log on to www.firstforwellbeing.co.uk and discover what is on offer, particularly for those who are residents of Northamptonshire.

Best Wishes

Enrolling, Deposits and Balances

Each course booking requires a deposit of £40. Day courses and shorter events require the full fee payable on enrolment. You can enrol using the telephone, email or in person. Unfortunately it is not possible to reserve a place unless the deposit is paid or is on its way in the post, in which case the place will be held for five days. Once the deposit has been paid, this is taken as confirmation that the course is booked and you will attend. A receipt and full course details will follow when they are available. The balance of the fee is due one month before the course. If the balance is not settled, we reserve the right to offer that place to another applicant.

Catering/Special Dietary Requirements

All meals and refreshments are included in the residential price of courses. Meals and refreshments are also included for those who choose to join a course as a non-resident with the exception of breakfast.Whilst we cannot cater for a wide range of likes and dislikes, we can cater for vegetarian, vegan, ‘no red meat’ and gluten-free diets, if booked in advance. Please mention your special diet EVERY time you enrol so that records can be kept up to date. If you have any serious allergies to food types, please inform us when you enrol, and remind us on arrival.

Arrival and Departure Times

Many courses have standard ‘weekend’ timings, so unless your course details state otherwise, arrival on day one is usually from 5.30pm in time for the meal at 7pm. We now have a lunch talk programme on specific Fridays, so weekend guests can have the option of arriving early. See pages 26 and 27 for details. If there is no lunch talk, why not come for lunch anyway? Call 01604 362200 to book. On the final day of weekend courses, departure is approximately 3.30pm. However, we ask that bedrooms are vacated by 9.30am unless you are informed that

this is not necessary. PLEASE read your course details carefully as day courses and longer courses have different timings.

Cancellations, Refunds and Transfer of Fees

We suggest you take out your own insurance in case you have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

Residential Courses: If cancellation is as a result of a medical condition for which you can provide certification, your deposit is transferable and your balance is refundable. If, however, it is not as a result of a medical condition and it is more than two weeks before the course starts, your balance is refundable and your deposit transferable apart from a £10 ‘admin fee’. If it is not as a result of a medical condition, and is within two weeks of the start of the course, no refund or transfer of fees is possible. A deposit can only be transferred as a deposit on a new enrolment. No fees can be transferred to another person.

Day Courses: More than two weeks before the course, the fees are refundable apart from a £10 admin fee. If it is not as a result of a medical condition, and is within two weeks of the start of the course, no refund or transfer of fees is possible.

Dinner Talks, Out To Lunch Plus, B&B: Full refund if we are informed before the event.

Equal Opportunities Policy

Knuston Hall is committed to providing equal opportunities, without discrimination, for all people. We wish to ensure that each student is treated fairly and has an equal opportunity to fulfil her/his potential. When contacting the college to discuss or enrol on a course, please mention all information which may help us to provide the best possible circumstances for you. This could include issues such as any mobility difficulties, hearing or visual limitations, special learning needs or allergies. Whatever it is, we will endeavour to take all reasonable steps to help.

MID-WINTER MURDERS Weekend 5-7 January 2018Twelfth Fright: A Murder Mystery Weekend

Arrivals from 5.30pm on Friday 5th January 2018 Finish with Lunch on Sunday 7th January 2018

Full Board with Shared Bedroom £229ppFull Board with Single Bedroom £249pp

Booking Code: M539Perdita Osbourne was a brilliant student researching into the circumstances of spontaneous combustion. This is the bizarre phenomenon in which a person instantly bursts into flames. A year ago tonight at this very venue, Perdita met a similar end. At the time the police were baffled and the case has lain on the files ever since. Tonight’s suspects are gathered to try and solve the death of Perdita. As you will discover, all of them had a special relationship with Perdita which made them unique in her life, but not all special relationships are healthy. Some are warped, suffocating and even deadly dangerous. Could it be that Perdita was not the subject of a strange inexplicable incident, but was in fact the victim of an evil calculating killer? This is the burning question you will have to answer this evening… you will have to take the part of an amateur sleuth to solve a most perplexing case.

After breakfast the following morning, your investigations continue until you are able to accuse someone before lunch. The end of ‘case one’ means you can have some relaxing time that afternoon to recharge your little grey cells.

Saturday afternoon Steve will do a Multimedia Murder Mystery Quiz from 4pm. You can be sure that some of the questions will link towards the second murder later the same day.

Saturday evening brings everyone back together again for case two – a serial killer is on the loose, picking off people at random, unless you can find some perverse logic in his choice of victim and recognize a pattern that will save some of his intended victims. Put on your deerstalker thinking caps as the circumstances are recreated for you to sift through. Meet the suspects, question them and filter out the red herrings. Just before bed, some last minute clues will be revealed.

After breakfast the next morning, your investigations continue until a final complete solution is unveiled. This is followed by a triumphant last lunch before detectives take their leave knowing justice has at last been done.

During the weekend you meet all the suspects involved in both adventures, your only role is to be the detective deciding who is innocent and who is guilty.

How to find Knuston Hall

By Road: Knuston Hall is situated on the B569 between Irchester and Rushden in East Northamptonshire. Drivers should approach through Irchester from the A45 from where the hall is clearly signposted. Signs direct Eastbound drivers onto the Westbound carriageway into Irchester. Whilst Higham Ferrers and Rushden offer a wide variety of shops and interesting buildings for guests with a little free time, some junctions in these areas do not make it clear where Knuston Hall is located. Therefore, travellers are advised to stick to major routes. If you experience problems, please phone Knuston on 01604 362200.

By Rail: Wellingborough station is 5 miles away (London St. Pancras approx 1hr). Bedford 14 miles (approx 45mins).

Taxi Service: Taxis are usually waiting at Wellingborough railway station. They will take you to the hall at a reasonable charge. The cost will be considerably more from other stations. Taxis for the return journey can be booked in the office.

Bus Service: Final decisions about new bus routes in the area are currently being made. The small number of guests who currently use the bus service are advised to check very carefully or opt for taxis. The Knuston Hall office team will keep up-to-date with new timetables as soon as they are confirmed.
