SBITC launches box repair and maintenance service
Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC), in partnership with container depot operator IRS Eastern Inc., launched its container repair and maintenance service last 10 August.
The box repair and maintenance service is expected to drive more volume to Subic.

IRS Eastern was assigned a one-hectare container care facility inside the terminal, which may be extended up to four hectares depending on market demand.
Aside from container care, the new service enables SBITC to upgrade export containers to Class A level based on Institute of International Container Lessors and cargo-worthy standards.
“The service allows shipping lines to be more flexible as they can now request for container upgrades based on the requirements of exporters,” says Roberto Locsin, SBITC General Manager.
The opening of the new service supports SBITC’s
marketing efforts to draw more customers to Subic. Last year, box volumes surged at the Freeport as shippers went north to avoid the congestion in Manila.
To sustain that growth, SBITC launched initiatives including opening a one-stop-shop last April, which reduced document processing to four hours. The port operator also recently commissioned new equipment in preparation for the increased container traffic during the holiday season.
Adding Subic to its list of operations, IRS Eastern operates a total of 14 container yards spread out in Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos.
The service allows shipping lines to be more flexible as they can now request for container upgrades based on the requirements of exporters, — Roberto Locsin, SBITC General Manager.

By Marie Bernadette de GuzmanThe ICTSI Foundation Inc., in partnership with Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC), continues its support to the barangay day care centers and a government-run special education school in Olongapo City near the Subic Bay Freeport in Zambales.
Eight day care centers in Barangay New Asina and Santa Rita received new sets of storybooks, multimedia-audio CDs and educational toys courtesy of the Foundation’s Project AIDE (Assistance to Improve Day Care Education).
During the turnover ceremony, Joy Lapuz, ICTSI Foundation Senior Program Head, explained that Project AIDE is the Foundation’s response to the needs of day care centers as these are often least prioritized due to more pressing issues in barangays.
Tony Ramos, SBITC Administrative Manager, reiterated ICTSI’s and SBITC’s commitment to support projects that advance the development of children in Olongapo.
The Foundation also donated various sports equipment to Kalalake Elementary School-Special Education Center to support the school’s sports program for children with special needs as they compete in the city and regional tournaments.

High five for AGCT!By Iva Roman
September was a special month for the management and staff of Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) after over 100 employees took part in We stack ‘em high five, a two-day teambuilding event held in the Croatian town of Vrbovec in Zagreb.
Participants of the teambuilding event were split into different teams which competed in various medieval-themed games, most of which required knight-like skills.
We stack ‘em high five embodies three main points, namely: teamwork, the fifth-year run of the event and the fact that AGCT’s RTGs can stack a maximum of five containers.
Organized by the HR Department under the leadership of Ivana Forebaher, the team-building event gave everybody a great time and strengthened teamwork and camaraderie.
Alessandro Becce (seated, left), AGCT CEO, and Iva Roman, AGCT Commercial Coordinator (standing, second from right), took part in the two-day teambuilding event.

PICT conducts terminal safety orientation for vendorsBy Arif Raza
To promote a culture of work safety and zero accident in the terminal, Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) recently conducted a terminal safety orientation for its vendors.
As standard protocol, staffers of vendors, suppliers and service providers are given safety training before they start working inside the terminal. Similar to other training programs, the safety orientation was complete with presentations as well as safety videos.
The lectures focused on the general safety guidelines, including substance
abuse program, emergency response procedures, fire alarm recognition, familiarization with fire hydrants and fire extinguishing systems, and the designated assembly areas in case of evacuations. They also put sufficient emphasis on pedestrian-related hazards, handling equipment, terminal traffic and strict compliance with the PPE policy.
Recognizing the importance of vendors and their staff, the PICT management also encouraged direct participation through incident reporting – even near-misses.
Participants were also taught how
to provide first aid during emergency situations without putting themselves in harm’s way. They were also briefed on the terminal’s spill action program.
