Residentsʼ gardens again this year gave their own Ward Councillors a headache as there were so many lovely gardens to choose from when judging the Sandbach in Bloom Gardens competiton! Well done to all those who won and for those who did not get an award, thank you very much for making our town, roads, streets and avenues a pleasant place to walk. Please rest assured that your Ward Councillors will do their best for you and our Town. Thank you. Sandbach Market Square received a commendation from the 2009 National Market Town Awards. The regeneration project demonstrated how community involvement helped to design the refurbishment of the Market Square. The project was successfully managed by South East Cheshire Enterprise and Sandbach Partnership with funding from North West Regional Development Agency, Sandbach Town, Congleton Borough and Cheshire County Councils. Old Hall Appraisal Study As a volunteer Group of concerned Sandbach residents SOHAG conveyed their grateful thanks to Sandbach Town Council for its match funding support towards the next move in their fight to save the Old Hall. Together with grants from English Heritage, Architectural Heritage Fund, Cheshire East Council, SOHAG & Heritage Works Preservation Trust, the total sum of £25,000 will pay for an options viability study of the Old Hall which will determine, in the opinions of experts, possible uses for the building - Commercial, Residential, Educational or Licensed Premises. Owners, Criterion, have now granted permission to proceed with the study. Crewe Road, Sandbach, Cheshire CW11 3NS New ward boundaries for the new Cheshire East Council will be brought in for the next set of elections in 2011. Sandbach Town Council has submitted its response, recommending that Sandbach has four Wards, each returning one Councillor. These Wards would reflect the fact that Sandbach is not a homogeneous urban sprawl, but contains definite communities; each of the suggested Wards would reflect this. All four Wards have their own centres of community life, be it primary schools, churches and chapels, scout huts or local organisations. If Sandbach Town Councilʼs recommendation is followed, residents would have one Councillor who would be able to get to know his or her "patch" thoroughly. This would improve accountability and give a genuine sense of local identity. Boundary Reviews The Parade and Services of Remembrance take place on Sunday 8th November, assembling at Westfields at 10.20am. Remembrance Parade The selected Consultants, Ryder Landscape Consultants Ltd, will be working with Sandbach Partnership to produce a full concept design plan for Sandbach Park that is built on a sound understanding of its local and natural context , community aspirations and a realistic appraisal of the potential to secure additional external funding. The Consultants will engage with a wide cross-section of park u sers and stakeholders in order to develop a strong understanding of the community aspirations for the development of the Park. It is anticipated that a key stakeholder group representing a range of stakeholders will be established from the consultation and be a useful sounding board throughout the development process. In the longer term it would be hoped that the group could evolve into a Friends of Sandbach Pa rk group to continue to support the park development beyond the end of the concept d esign process. A public exhibition of the proposed concept plans, including scale drawings, artistic impressions, outline specification details and costings will take place in the new year. Further comments will be invited from the general public and will be considered before a finalised concept plan is formally approved in March. Anyone wishing to be involved in the consultation process should contact project co-ordinator Bob Hardiker. [email protected] or tel 752124. Following a donation of £7,000 from Sandbach Town Council, planning for the 2010 Sandbach Transport Festival is now underway and organisers are hoping to make it an even bigger success than this year. Attracting thousands of people, the event is one of the most

Sandbach in Bloom Volunteers

Foden’s Band New Partnerships...Local Police Officers and staff are working hard to tackle the issues with ʻpurse dippingʼ in Sandbach.  In recent months a trend of purse thefts have occurred on Market Day, when the Town is at its busiest.  To help raise awareness and offer advice, Officers were on hand in the Town on 10 September; to support this initiative Sandbach Town Council contributed to the purchase of purse and bag alarms, which were given out on the day.

Speeding vehicles remain a problem within the Town.  In an effort to address this problem a ʻDriver Engagement Dayʼ was recently held, in partnership with Cheshire Fire and Resuce to educate motorists in understanding the possible consequences of breaking speed limits and driving without due care.  During a three hour session 17 motorists were stopped and agreed to watch an educational video and several fixed penalty notices were given.  Sandbach Town Council supports police concerns and actively engages in the local Speedwatch initiative, should you be interested in becoming involved inSpeedwatch please contact the Town Clerk on 759959.

Following reports of ʻBogus Callersʼ in Cheshire East, Sandbach Police are looking for residents to become Homewatch or Neighbourhood watch co-ordinators. If your street doesnʼt have this scheme and you are interested in joining please contact Sandbach Police Station.

Finally, on 15 October the Police drop-insurgeries move from Union Street to the ʻThursday Teasʼ Cafe in St Maryʼs Church Hall. Officers will be available for a chat with anyone who has any issues they want to talk over from 11.00am - 12.00 noon every Thursday.
